I'll be interested to see if they do end up bringing back the 17" Macbook Pro with Retina, I would buy that in a heartbeat.

I've been struggling to figure out what to do ever since they discontinued the "17 MacBook Pro. Mobile is great, but I need a portable workstation.

I was sorely tempted to get a current one by the $200 off Best Buy is offering today and tomorrow.

Must resist and wait. I already picked up a 2012 11" MBA in January from a similar sale. :p

The main draw to the Haswell models for me will be the possibility of better integrated graphics.

Got this deal + the $100 off student coupon from BestBuy.com last weekend and couldn't be happier. $900 for a cMBP IvyBridge 2012 model isn't bad at all. No remorse when Haswell has no real speed advantages over Ivy Bridge.... just power consumption. I can live with the 7 hours battery in the 2012 model. :D

I'm gonna take a big hit in a few months, waiting for a new MBP, new iPad, new Display & the Time Capsule they just released plus all the accessories.

I want the following MacBook Pro 15":

  • with the old chassis, having:
  • Haswell Iris 5200
  • Thunderbolt 2
  • NON-Retina display (this is important!)
  • dvd-drive
  • LAN adapter
  • non-glued battery
  • expecting to be 500$ cheaper than with dedicated NVidia GPU

Can I buy this in october?

Notebooks in 4 of 5 last Octobers

It might be worth pointing out that Apple has had some kind of a notebook refresh in four of the last five Octobers, and the timing of releases--late in the month--has been remarkably consistent:
October 23, 2012: Apple Introduces 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display
October 24, 2011: Apple Bumps MacBook Pro with Processor, Graphics, Storage Upgrades
October 20, 2010: Apple Announces New 13.3-Inch and 11.6-Inch MacBook Air Models with Flash Storage
October 2009: No laptop updates, according to the MacRumors Buyer's Guide, but new iMacs and Mac Minis were released on, predictably, October 20, 2009.
2008: I have a "late 2008" MacBookPro, and EveryMac corroborates that these first Unibody models were released October 14, 2008.

you can not update a prediction

Ming-Chi Kuo was wrong regarding NEW Macbook's being released at WWCD. Then so called "UP DATE's" his prediction to what Apple does every year. Every year around sep-oct Apple updates there Macbook Pro's a little. I just dont understand why people trust this guy Kuo or think he is some king of Oracle or something. First off, you cannot update a prediction. Like when everyone said the world would end when the years hit 2000 or 2012, then they "UP DATE" there prediction to another date down the road. Predicting what Apple will do is not even difficult, they release a new iPone once a year, usually around sep-oct. It has a better battery, a better camera, better resolution, faster processor, lighter and thinner. And you can apply that to every thing that Apple does, just GOOGLE the history of apple product releases. Now if Kuo predict's in Sep 2013 Apple will release an Apple iRefrigerator or iCar, I would be impressed. But by simply stating the obvious, and not even being right on the dates, I dont see why people follow his predictions. People can and should think for themselves. Whats more interesting is that given the fact that this Kuo was wrong/UP DATE his prediction, that should tell everyone that he does not have an inside source at APPLE or a crystal ball, he's simply making educated guesses using what Apple has done in the past and projecting what Apple might do in the future.

Wait for the release, then buy a refurb of the old model at 25% off.
I picked up the last generation MacBook Air for 26% off the list price as soon as the new ones were announced.

What are they waiting for? Assuming it's released in Oct that's 5 months after the MBA with Haswell. By the time I get one people will already be talking about Intel's next processor. Not happy about this. I need a new machine and this wait is a real pain.

Apple is smart. You people are going to buy it anyway since Apple is your only option, so why not sell it at full price at a time when Haswell will be cheaper for them. Greater margins. Smart.

I predict many will buy the updated MacBook pros once they are released.
.....and i'm not updating my prediction.

I'd bet no. My gut feeling is that the non-Retina model will be either be not updated or EOL'd completely.

iOS 7/iPhone/iPad/iPod gets a big show in September
Mavericks/MacPro/MacBook Pro/iMac/mini gets a big show in October

Makes sense to me

The new Macbook Pro.

The most unfixable Macbook ever.

Wow, I can't agree more. When you cant update simple drive or RAM modules, its a bad investment for most people. Dont get me started on the price! :D

It is not like the retina display densitys are unique anymore. I hope the keep the cMBP around or I may go to Win 8. Hard to believe but its true.

Apple wants to release after the Back to School event is over, which ends in September. It's a bit silly when Haswell has been out for Windows OEMs fairly commonly for a month already.

1) An electronic device is not an investment. An investment occurs when one expects or hopes for a return on his or her money. Electronic devices are products that depreciate from the moment they are purchased.

2) The cost of ownership of a Mac is fairly low if you sell it within two years as Macs, unlike PCs, have excellent resale value. Also, with the rMBPs you can upgrade the SSD later if you want and are handy, but it's less expensive to sell your machine and buy an new one with the upgrades you want.

I hope Apple uses a vastly superior GPU. I love my rMBP... but let's face it... the GPU it came with isn't powerful enough to drive that high res screen. Last night I was doing some minor aperture editing / organizing of files, and I would get a beach ball all the time... with 16GB of RAM, a huge SSD, the top of the line i7, etc, you'd think I wouldn't be seeing that, but the GPU really is the bottleneck...

Doesn't sound good for sure. How do you know that the issue in Aperture is the GPU.?

Actually you can sell them quite nicely within the first 2.8 years if you add AppleCare which lasts 3 years as it is a nice insurance for the buyer.

That is the reason why I am interested in a new 13"rMBP now as my Feb 2011 quad MBP is 3 years old in Feb 2014. It will sell nicely during the holidays.

Even so I am not happy about going back to a dual core from the quad core but I like the portability.

... had enough of the Windows crap, cheap plastic notebooks, etc. and looked for a MBP as the next investment. The classic MBP series with a full Intel solution just sounded right intuitively (in my guts, and also when reading the first tests with Haswell in regards to power consumption, heat, battery life).

But with all these dumped down features of the rMBP I am not certain anymore

- The double display resolution would kill the bonus of improved battery life on a Haswell system
- They call it MacBook Pro expecting it to be used for professional mobile work and yet they removed all these essential plugs and you are not even able to use a CD or a LAN... why oh why...

It's so contradicting... and facepalm causing...
Their current classic MBP is the best in all aspects. I just hope and wish, we get Haswell integration for the classic series and then I'd immediately buy it. Let's pray they don't ditch it...

It will be worth the wait

I'd rather have them release awesome Macbook Pros and have to wait a couple of months than to have them release them soon with only minor improvements. I believe Apple is going to wow us. Again. :D
But then again, I'm happy with my 2011 13" Macbook Air. I was never much of a complainer anyways. ;)
