1. Sophisticated people use earbuds and don't play audio in public
2. No edge distortion, barreling or chromatic aberration?
3. Battery life is great. Not everyone is a shutin.
4. Theoretical speeds aren't real life, the difference is minimal
5. This is a negative? Peak nitpicking
6. More battery consumption for minimal gains?
7. Not a necessity
8. A future update will enable this
I wouldn't mind a more elegant version of this 👇 maybe 2 lenses instead of 3, usb 3.2 and stereo speakers

I must be in the minority but I absolutely love this phone. For me, its up there with the iPhone 4 and iPhone X.

I was interested, but there are two massive dealbreakers for me - no ultra-wide camera (I could live without a zoom lens, but not without ultra-wide) and the abysmal, quiet single speaker. There are other drawbacks too, but these two completely killed my interest in the Air.

Funny how people are *now* saying this, yet when Air didn't sell out in all colors and options in the initial launch, that means it's "not selling well," and "no one wants it."
Take that up with whoever claimed it, then.

You really don’t get the “meaningless data is meaningless” thing. One person’s baseless claim does not prove your, equally baseless, claim.

Apple is "drastically" cutting production of the iPhone Air and shifting focus toward the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models, Nikkei Asia reports.

iPhone-Air.jpg

The business publication claims to have learned of a major cut to iPhone Air production motivated by weaker-than-expected consumer interest, nearly to "end of production levels." Despite early reports of the iPhone Air selling out within hours of launch in China, the overall reception has apparently been lukewarm in the region.

Combined with weak demand in other markets, sales projections have dropped significantly. Although Nikkei declined to disclose the full extent of the production cut or which suppliers will be affected, it says that the changes may be seen in Apple's supply chain in the coming months.

A new KeyBanc Capital Markets survey for investors reveals "virtually no demand for iPhone Air, and limited willingness to pay for a foldable." Demand for other iPhone 17 models is said to be healthy but measured, with the mix "continuing to shift toward Pro and Pro Max models." Moreover, AI features have yet to meaningfully influence buying decisions.

Last week, Japan's Mizuho Securities said that Apple will reduce iPhone Air production by one million units this year. Meanwhile, Apple apparently plans to increase production of iPhone 17 models by two million units. A separate report claimed that Samsung has canceled plans to release a successor to its own iPhone Air rival, the Galaxy S25 Edge, due to low sales.

All you people here having to justify your purchase by putting down the Air and how bad it is and don’t realize people can live with these small sacrifices to have something stunning, thin and lightweight versus a cheap aluminum feeling brick. Many don’t need two speakers because they have AirPods. Battery being the same as the 16 Pro is good. And many aren’t photographers that need 8x or wide zoom. What’s so hard to understand this? Many have fomo and they feel they need to get the Pro because well, Apple hasn’t done foo marketing the Air. Plus, the Air is cheaper.

I can see a number of technical compromises - the smaller camera sensor, single speaker, battery life - but for the difference in thickness and weight isn't enough to justify the cost. To put it another way; I believe people know it's a better device to hold and carry, but the regular iPhone 17 really isn't that much heavier of thicker.

Best iPhone 17 in years yet people flock to the Pro models. People at Apple must be scratching their heads, doubt this was the scenario they had in their minds.

Welp, too bad for me. I sure hope they don't abandon the idea. After years of "largest iPhone" I downgraded to Air and absolutely love it. I'm a photographer, and miss the UWA and macro, but I have cameras for that. The speaker is worse, but there are earbuds. In the meantime, I have something with a large screen that I can use without feeling like I have a brick somewhere on my person at all times. Put back in the UWA camera and I'd be 100% happy with it.

The first MacBook Air wasn't a great machine, but they fixed its issues. I can only hope for the same here.

There isn’t overheating issuesz

ypu

Maybe Apple should advertise the Air more.

Do you own an air? My battery is great all day. My WiFi and 5G data speeds is faster then my 16 Pro. I don’t even get mmWave in my city. Overheating? What the hell are you talking about? Too thin to hold? Most people have Aiprods when they are watching something worth watching. A single speaker works perfectly fine for a random YouTube video. You are throwing pasta on the wall to see what sticks.
I was not saying it overheated. I was saying the opposite: it doesn't overheat

Compromises:
1. Single speaker
2. Single camera
3. Extremely poor battery life (due to thinness)
4. Inferior C1X 5G modem compared to SD X80 in Pro series
5. Too thin to hold.
6. Busted Wifi 7 that is incapable of 320 Mhz channel width on 6Ghz.
7. No mmWave which is in Pro models.
8. No display output via USB-C to an external monitor or TV.
9. Still USB 2.0 speeds for a premium device in 2025.
10. Slower binned SOC (again due to thinness and heat concerns)

Did I miss anything?
Someone at Apple really had a bug up their butt about making the phone as thin as possible, despite all of the compromises, and the power to push this through. Hopefully that person has been sat down in the corner with a juice box and some cookies and told to be quiet. All for what -- less than half an ounce?

You missed the cost of it. 1000 Dollars way too much for this one. Maybe around 699 or 799 at Best.

The fact that it’s thin is really cool, but that double camera bump is just awful. I do understand the technical and physical reasons behind it, but making it so thin and then having to add that bump just ruins it. I don't buy it just for that.

Except the battery life isn’t poor. It’s better than my 15 Pro it replaced (even when new) and equal to the 16 Pro. And nearly equal to the iPhone 17. It’s just not as long as the 17 Pro.

The wifi 7 issue isn’t unique to the Air, though. Any Apple devices with the same N1 chip will have that limitation.

Not sure too thin to hold is a thing (not for me), but disappears in pocket like no other iPhone has.

The modem is fast — just missing mm wave which only matters in select locations.

I think the main issue with the Air is price. Too close to the Pro’s price.
Yes agree the price too close to the Pro. With a little patience and some due diligence good deals on eBay UK can be found.

It's worse than the iPhone 17, which is $200 less and only 12 grams heavier. The Air is also marketed with a battery pack, which is effectively like announcing this phone doesn't have good battery life. It puts people off. And that's without losing a camera, and a speaker.

It quite easy to see why it's not selling.

They would have done better with a smaller Pro. With the move to 6.3 and 6.9 with the 16 Pro/Pro Max there is room for say a 5.8/5.9 inch (same screen size as the beloved X/Xs/11 Pro) in a new updated body that would better satisfy people who think the phones are getting too big. Even if they had to make it a tad thicker to get better battery life it would be some much better for one-handed users. I still strongly believe the mini failed not just because of the screen size, but because even people who liked the smaller form factor and were good with that screen size valued the Pro features more. Same with the Plus as those who wanted a bigger phone went with the Pro Max and now the Air as people value again those Pro features rather than thinness and find the Pro screen big enough.
