12 Pro Max!

Apparently people really want a small large iPhone, with all the trimmings. People are fickle. When people look at the 'small' iPhone, they see 'small', and in a country that invented the SuperSize menu, and thinks nothing of eating a 20-ounce steak, and a 'Blooming Onion' with desert, small just isn't going to happen... Why drive a small car to get groceries when you can drive an Escalade!

I was 100% on board with buying a Mini, then I realized I'm stuck working from home because of the pandemic, and don't use my phone as much as when I could go outside to... places. I use my iPad much more. So it did not make sense to buy a new phone. But maybe when we can go outside. Or iPhone Mini 13 if they bring back the Touch ID like we all wanted.

This is exactly my story as well.

There are people that were hanging on to iPhone 7 and 8 until the SE 2 came out and upgraded then, only to upgrade again to the Mini when that came out six months later.
I know someone who was holding on to the 6s since 11Pro was too big, then SE 2 came and upgraded hoping its a big jump. But it wasn't, just hyped up. So six months later traded SE 2 for 12 Mini. Now happy with the 12 Mini, perfect size and camera.

Per Kuo, SE 2 plus or SE 3 is coming in April. Hopefully a full screen SE with touch ID on the side.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't want Touch ID on the side. I've used the Galaxy S10E; it had one on the side. It was very fast and worked really well. But it's simply not as intuitive as having it where your thumb naturally rests when you're holding or picking up a phone.

That's too bad. If I was in the market for a new phone, it would be either the iPhone 12 mini or the SE. Our current iPhone 11 is just too big and heavy.

I suspect the price is the biggest hinderance (Especially in other markets outside North America). The Mini will be a ‘slow burner’ of a phone, and that’s primarily due to the increasing demand consumers want with larger displays.
Outside N.America and W.Europe, people don't have an iPhone and an iPad, so a larger screen iPhone is more desirable. I would have loved an iPhone 12 Mini Pro, but might end up with the 12 Pro for the better camera, but mid size.

Tbh as much as it may upset mini lovers I'm actually kind of glad its not doing well because it means they may bump the size up more. I like a smaller phone as the normal 12 6.1 is too big but the 5.4 was way too small.

If they make 5.8 their small size again I'd be very happy.

I would have LOVED to keep my Mini Green if it wasn't for my stupid OLED eye/head aches. 😩

Hopefully they come out with a LCD with the power button ToucH ID so we can get a full screen iphone.

But I'm completely prepared to be disappointed.... There's no way they would put the Power Button Touch ID on an LCD phone.... maybe mini-LED phone.....

I've honestly been tempted to grab an 11 Pro. IMO that's the perfect size; and it's also the last of that size that also has a phenomenal camera and phenomenal battery life.

I suppose the people who would buy an iPhone 12 mini will largely be happy with the iPhone SE.
Absolutely not. The whole point is we want a smaller phone body. The last thing we need is a design that wastes space at the top and bottom.

I wonder how a Pro Mini would have done. I know I’d have bought it.

I came to say the same thing. I find the normal iPhone/Pro just a bit big and the mini, while better IMO is just a tad to small. I'd LOVE a 5.7-5.8in device. To me that would be perfect for both use and consuming media.

I was going to get the mini but the battery life is just not there. I need a phone that lasts from the time I leave home at 6am until I get back at 8-9pm. I can charge a few times here and there but not enough reliable options exist for me. The mini’s size is perfect for me. Sadly the battery life is not.

The moral of the story: don’t expect iPhone 13 Mini. The remaining inventory of 12 Mini will be there if you need it. Eventually Apple will just update the iPhone SE for those who want smaller phone or maybe transform the iPhone 12 Mini into the new SE.

I'd be ok with the 12 Mini turning into an SE3 -- as long as that meant SE pricing.

I've learned, about me at least, that I don't like to have more than about $400-500 into my iPhone.

I really only use mine in spots "on the go" and for very basic phone/camera/text/podcast/quick app access as needed (bank/ATM)..

Everything else for me is on the iPad and Mac

Apple's range of iPhones is pretty neatly arranged by price. What feels out of order is that the Mini costs more than the 11 (and maybe also Xr).
12: $799
12 mini: $699
11: $599
Xr: $499
SE 2: $399

You really have to care a lot about size to get the Mini over the 11 (or even Xr). And if you care about size there is also the SE 2 for much cheaper.
The Mini is better than the 11, and much better than the XR. Of course it costs more. If you think it's out of place, that would only be because there's not an 11 mini.

What they might do is downgrade the display to LCD to keep cost down, but include the latest A series chip to make it enticing.

Actually, he pushed it back to 2H or later now, and it sounds more likely to be the former - an SE2 Plus to accompany, not replace, last years model.

What's in store for an SE3 may not be known for some time yet. But it's true that full screen with iPad-Air-4-like TouchId appear to be likely.

It's interesting how the phone size everyone thought would be niche is selling more than the size everyone thinks is "perfect" or makes "the most sense."

As I and other levelheaded buyers have said, it's all up to preference but given how much we do with our phones a larger screen size, or at times the biggest we can get without being an iPad, is more likely the most preferred.

Honestly, I think the Mini is fantastic. Feels great in the hand and the new design and specs make it stellar. But I'd rather have something bigger that I can comfortably watch a movie or play a game on.

Or maybe keep the OLED display but remove Face ID. It seems like a switch from OLED to LCD could potentially require more extensive changes to the form factor of the device.

Incidentally, the small form factor could mitigate potential backlash if the lowest cost phone in the lineup indeed became the first with a notchless fullscreen. This is because if based on the Mini, even without the notch it would still not offer near the screen real estate of higher end phones. Then again, I'm sure there will be folks going ballistic either way, so maybe they'd just leave an empty notch there. :)
