Resellers are scumbags

They actually work for someone up above them, it's not just Lebanese people.
There's the Asians too... Look around, half the people in the Nashua and Salem lines are Asian or some punk kid.
The Asians come in families, the Lebanese bring friends and pay random kids 35-40 per iPad that they stand in line for and buy. Theres a 2 iPad per person limit, hence the massive groups.
The iPads all mainly go over seas where they won't be launched for another 3-5 months. This is mainly going on due to no sales tax in NH. Apple knows what's happening, but it's all volume to them.:D

They're scalpers, not resellers. Call them what they are.

Yes, they are scumbags and so is anyone defending their actions.

uhm, he's just making a legal deal. the people who take the $50 are not better and the people who buy the iPads from him at a premium also know that he's a scalper and are therefore not better.

I honestly don't see him as the problem. It's apple not having a functional preorder system and people being totally impatient about a toy being the real problem here.

If nobody would care about getting the iPad now or in 3 weeks there would be no market for scalpers. Problem solved.

He's giving people money plus $50 like I said in the first post he pulled out a giant stack of $100 bills and said he had $80k in cash.

Good thing he's in New Hampshire....

I for one salute him, an entrepreneurial business man making a buck on stupid people.

If you oppose to this, I hear North Korea has some vacancies in their "business is bad" department.

It's somewhat of a conundrum methinks.

In terms of "pure" economy, yes the "business man" is simply exploiting the market inefficiency where Apple is charging far less than what people would pay to become early adopters. If Apple charged an extra premium for their first shipments, that would've killed off the demand to an extent and Apple could easily restore the original price after they stockpiled enough iPads. On the other hand that'll be a terrible publicity and people will get mad, not to mention no line up. The "business man" is just putting in effort to make money off this difference between the real price people are willing to pay and what Apple's charging. He's just doing a normal business routine.

On the other hand, from a tech lover's point of view, it stinks, no question. You're waiting in line to buy a ticket for the iPad/concert/sports event that you love, and some "entrepreneurial business man" who couldn't care less about the product gets his entourage to buy all of the available tickets before you. Would you still think he's just an "entrepreneurial business man" or simply a douche bag?

Douchebags is what they are....

I was in line with these folks...total douchebags. Yes even the knuckleheads that took the money too. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should!! I was lucky and was able to get the iPad I wanted. But the kids and people that had saved for months to buy one and couldn't cause these jerks wanted to make a buck....shameful!!! I think I'll carry a sign and walk next to these guys at the next launch....total boneheads!

rofl you go do that and get stabbed.

people see an opportunity to make money and they're doing it. what's so wrong with that? they aren't hurting anyone.

oh I forgot, not having an ipad right after it's released is incredibly painful

Wow that is BS! I think Apple should have allowed one per customer. This feels like a concert that I really wanted to see but couldn't because of all of the ticket buyers.

I missed getting one by 20 people in a line of easily over 600. Most people I saw bought two.

Ya, I'm sure you'd still think that when a ticket reseller buy up all of the tickets to an event you wanted to see and then triples the price for you.

Again just cause you can doesn't mean you should...it's the making money at whatever cost thing that bothers me. It's the principle. Go tell the people who lost money to Bernie Madoff that it was a guy just trying to make some money. Whether it's 10 bucks or a million...it's still wrong!!

Lol it's just an iPad, it's not medical supplies or food or something essential to life, just a nicety to have. If someone has the funds and the means to make a buck that doesn't harm anyone else physically I don't have a problem with it. Just because your materialistic and you NEED to have it now doesn't make his actions wrong. If I stood in line and didn't get one yes I'd be upset but it's not the end of the world people lol

That must be why I couldn't get one. By Saturday all places sold out, except for one place that only had the iPad 64GB CDMA (Verizon), which I didn't want. :(

Oh well, now have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for an online order to ship, or keep calling the local stores until someone gets it. I may just do the later.

An iPad is a luxury item. As in, you don't need it. If you pay for it at a high price, than that is your own damn fault. End of story.

He's giving people the money and $50 to buy him an iPad so he can take it oversea to sell it. More than likely that's what he's doing.

How is he scumbag? Theres no rule saying he can't do that and if I was you I would take him up on his offer and buy him an iPad with his money to make that extra $50. I mean we are in a recession and you are just standing there.

He's a scum bag because people like him are the reason why people who have been waiting in lines for hours couldn't get their iPads. There's a reason why Apple was limiting number of sales. Apple didn't want their customers being shafted paying huge markup/having huge shortages.

Apple doesn't care about our well being pre se. But if we buy at a huge markup we're not going to have money for buying accessories/spend money at the app store XD

God forbid, you place an order online and wait for it to come. Apple gets a sale, you get what you want without a huge markup. Everyone wins!:D

But no, the "I gotta have it now" mentality rules most people. They will spend hours stalking employees at Apple, Best Buy, etc., analyzing every statement and claiming all sorts of conspiracy theories when someone gives wrong information. It is really pathetic.

Not to pick specifically on you, but you and guys like you make me puke
You need to grow up

Stop being crybabies, that's life.
You are not entitled to anything you didn't put enough effort into getting.

Or should I join you and complain that some duchebonebags won't let me buy a $5M house for $100K I think I'm entitled to and offer what I believe to be "fair" price for it :D

I hate to belong to the same cult as all you guys .... :p

And - fair's fair - even if you didn't get tickets to the only show in town ....
So, if you need to blame someone - blame your lazy ass ...

Or blame untold billions of us all, that make mass market economy possible, and allow you to have marvels of tech for less than $1K.
Without all the others who feel just as entitles as you, without underpaid workers living under their workbenches (who gave up their entitlement, so that you have more of it?) you wouldn't have those lines, and would snatch your prize for say cool, affordable $50K, with amazing customer service of course ...

And believe me, you don't want "fair", in reality it turns out to to be called "communism", and you certainly don't want that ....

Exactly! Grown men literally crying and throwing a fit over these. Personally I ordered online and went back to bed. LOL! Easy and it keeps me away from all the 30 and 40 year old children in line and camping out in dumpsters to take pics of fedex deliveries.

Resellers are scumbags of the earth. They can't do anything to make money other than to gouge people for products someone else did all the work to manufacture and market.

They should burn them all with fire.

Hey EspressoLove...go have another espresso!

If you read my post you would see that I actually got the iPad I wanted, it has nothing to do with me personally, I was actually thinking about those other people, namely the 1/2 dozen young kids that I know that had been saving their money for over 6 months to buy an iPad for themselves. Never once was the word entitled used to reference the fact these young folks should have an opportunity to purchase something that they had worked hard to obtain on their own...so to me they were anything but lazy, as you put it! If anything the scalpers are the lazy ones.

You're right, it's perfectly legal for them to do what they did, I just think it's shameful that they work a system completely for themselves, it's selfish.

There are no doubt countless other issues surrounding how perhaps these products are manufactured, that would be a discussion for another forum.

Oh and you forgot a word earlier it would be doucheboneknucklebags :D

These kind of people have already gotten more attention than I want to give to them....

This. Best post. I for one don't see anything morally or economically wrong with this. Like the OP said, the Apple Staff even knows it's happening. If he offered me 50 bucks to do it, why not?

That said, it still sucks. But it's the economy, stupid.

Just because no rules or laws were broken doesn't make a particular behavior less jerkish.

With demand this high and lines this long anyone not purchasing one to actually be used by themselves or someone they know is behaving like a jerk and is contributing to a higher strain on supplies than there should be.

It's unfair to the folks in line who actually want one for themselves only to find out they've all been sold to people who are just purchasing them to resell them. Rules and laws have nothing to do with it - it's about being considerate and not behaving like a jerk.
