I just ordered a new mbp today but for some reason they say on apple.com that I will get it on September 9 or 10 even though it is supposed to be finished to ship on the 29:th of August...
Is this just a coincidence?
or will they send me a newer model than the one I ordered?
I guess it's just wishfull thinking...

The wrist rests are cracking on my (January 2007) MacBook. Was the casing replacement covered under AppleCare, if you don't mind me asking?

Yes - I just had Applecare replace my daughter's wrist-wrest, mouse button, and bottom casing for cracks. The wrist-wrest is a definately known problem (the little tabs on the inside of the lid crack the plastic they touch) AND be sure to check the base under the hinge area - many of the White Macs develop cracks all along the edge on the bottom between the hinges.

Wishfull thinking...

Usually, they're not available right away after the announcement. And you did order the older one, which is the one you will get.

If Apple gives the MBP magnetic latches, then this problem will most like be solved because it would close and be completely shut, not like the current gen MBP's.

anyone have a macpro that is bent that could send some words of advice before I sucker my 3k into scrap metal??
i have not bought one but will, they say the mb plastic is best because it has mag latches and is plastic so as to not warp, mold or over heat the ac adapter, DOES the current MBP melt, over heat plastics or warp bend or mold to a deformity, jesis man

MacBook: Aluminium, LED Display, Dedicated graphics card

MacBook Pro: MacBook Air Keyboard, Magnetic Latch, User-Replaceable Hard Drive, New dedicated graphics card.

Mac Mini: Better specs

Cinema Displays: H-IPS, HDCP-certified, 24" model replaces 23" model, black frame around the display like the aluminium iMac and LED displays (maybe).

My prediction.

Apple's BTO dates and ship dates are always estimates.... and they're pretty conservative in my experience. You'll probably end up getting it sooner (sometimes a week sooner) than what the site estimates. Depending on where you are—and assuming you chose the standard shipping—if it ships on the 29th, you might get it Sept 5 or 6 (Thursday or Friday). Monday is a holiday so that might push your ship date to the following Monday if you're unlucky though...

Interestingly, AppleTV is not mentioned. I'd wager that the aTV is going to get a minor HW revision in the form of video output, making it capable of driving (at least) 1080i. This would coincide with the iTunes update to 8.0.

Such a move would spur lagging aTV sales (overcoming the consumer's mindset of it having the inferior video output of 720p), and allow Apple to compete more readily with BluRay players, as well as with BluRay content providers such as NetFlix and Blockbuster. The timing would be right to drive the Christmas rush, too. Getting an aTV to the masses early would allow for favorable reviews to hit the mainstream media.

Hoping for an updated MacBook Pro

My wife gave in and got a new MBP a few months ago, but I've been hanging on to my original 2.0GHz MBP -- hoping for one with a new design. Not that there's anything wrong with the current one, but I want to be on the leading edge of fashion. :)

1080i would be a downgrade not an upgrade. It already does 1080p.

I've...

Weird that it's still around - I thought it would have gone the way of the eMac by now....

I've got 2 of them and might get a third for my mother... Never underestimate the Mac Mini. It *could* be a perfect vehicle for those wanting to transfer to the PC but don't want to spend the huge money (relatively) for an IMac. Especially those peecee users that have big monitors already...

Why not just wait? Don't you think that would make a lot more sense?

Your MacBook predictions are plausible.
Your MacBook Pro stuff was believable until USER-REPLACEABLE HARD DRIVE...

That was utter crystal ball talking.

I was about to buy an 8 GB iTouch last week. I hope this update is worth the wait.

I have NO DOUBT you will get twice the memory for the same price in 3 weeks.
And there is a good possibility you will get much more in the hardware.

Sweet! 8-core 4 GHz MacBook Pros! Wait.... that's not in the article? Crap...

Hope the new MBPs come... and they're non-chiclet =-/

wait wait so if i don't like the air keyboards then i must buy a current mbp, is there a problem with the 256 graphics cards?

The only way to get a true 1080P video on the AppleTV is to hack into it. All it will do is 720P IF you encode it at 24FPS otherwise it will only do 960X540 at 29.97 FPS.
However there will be an update to the ATV..and iTunes.

Native AAC 5.1 digital audio.

Unless they ship yours at the moment of the changeover. Many people got the new of 'X' instead of the older 'X' just because they happened to order at the right time.

A plant can't keep making the old model while they are already making the new one and it's often possible that there are back logs of orders when the change happens. Since Apple appears to ship 'fresh from the plant' in China on many items, it's entirely possible to get the new one instead of the old one. It only makes sense. How would you like to have ordered the MBP and gotten the old one after hearing that someone who shipped the same day got the new one?

I went into the options for the video and set mine to 1080p and my teevee detects it as 1080p. Well, unless I'm wrong... Let me check...

I want a Mac "Midi"

Twice as high as my current Mac Mini. Throw in a blue ray burner, a big hard disk, plenty of space for additional RAM (4 GB minimum) and a decent graphics card so I can hook up two 22"-24" monitors. Is that too much to ask for?
