So glad I wasn't the only one having this problem! There was also an outage on sept 27th and all morning today. In both instances, I did not even know it wasn't working until I became curious as to why I didn't receive any replies... it was because my messages never sent!

Would rather not have to turn my phone off every time this happens...

Turning iMessage off and on and then restarting the phone fixed it for me.

I definitely do not want to reset network settings!

I also suspect just restarting the phone alone will fix the issue.

that fixed the problem for the moment....

but how's you Message on mac os ?

For several days it's just awful on my side. I need to restart it like 30 times to sync it totally. Every time I start it, I just see 10 messages at the time. Sometimes I freeze at startup and I need to kill it.

I want my iMessage working on Mac OS like it was working before !

anyone with the same problem ?

What worked for me was holding Power and Home until the device rebooted. So far no problems.

Very broken, the QA continues to slide to MS level

It's getting hard to imagine what is happening at Apple, even though I know folks working in the dev areas. QA for all software OSX/IOSseems to be truly dreadful.

Bugs fixed in previous versions are constantly reappearing along with new bugs, bugs which clearly show a fundamental lack of testing and regression QA.

Considering how little true innovation there has been in IOS and OSX in the last 24 months there is little excuse for it.

Time to get your s*** together right now Apple. You user base did not just come to you cos your stuff looks pretty...we came cos it predominately worked...

Now it feels like we are running a better looking version of some MS crap much of the time.

Ah! I had the same problem yesterday with iOS 7. No matter what, the text refused to send through iMessage, and it didn't fall back to regular SMS.

My solution was to restart my phone, which allowed me to resend the messages.

But will it appears again? I hope not. Until that moment, iMessage has been very stable for me. I hope they put out a fix, since this appears to be client bug.

----------

I noticed that when I upgraded to iOS 7, the setting to fall back on traditional text messages when iMessage is unavailable had been switched to "off" and I had to reenable it.

Ahhhhh! Yes, I see the same thing now. That default setting has definitely changed iOS 7. My wife's iOS 6 has it enabled.

So the problem might just be iMessage server related then - iOS 6 devices have just been 'silently' falling back on SMS while iOS 7 devices hang up.

Mine is set to send SMS and the failed iMessages were not being sent as SMS. They just sit there indefinitely.

Had it, fixed it, solved it

I had it last night sitting here in my home in lovely Cupertino, CA. More undelivered texts this morning. So, I turned my phone off and back on when I was out and about, so LTE had to kick in. Worked.

Then went into Settings-> Messages-> and switched on "Send as SMS". I gather the default is off. That *should* take care of it the next time there is a network messages issue.

Now, what about Siri who no longer has time for me?

Everybody, if you updated/restored to iOS 7, the reason some of your messages are failing to send is because "SEND TO SMS" has been turned OFF in iOS 7 (even if it was previously on in iOS 6 and older). What you need to do is go to Settings > Messages > toggle on "Send to SMS" then, for good measure, turn off iMessages completely, reset network settings, then turn iMessages back on. Your failed messages should then send moving forward. Not sure about new, fresh installations of iOS 7, though - haven't had a chance to test that scenario.

Dumb, dumb, dumb move by Apple, IMHO. A lot of people were blindsided by this.

iMessage on my MBP has been a nightmare. It was perfectly synced before, but now, it selectively selects certain conversations to sync. sending from my phone to my apple id or my phone no. now sends as ams/mms. It used to send to those as iMessage. But then it'll all of a sudden send as iMessage.

It's been acting weird for sure. This is silly.

Craig Federrigi (sic) has taken over the software side and we have seen many software update issues since.

Forstall come back! Things were solid when he was in charge.

I never noticed this until 7.0.2. Even the original betas never had an issue. Hopefully this gets resolved. It's a PITA since it doesn't even default back to a normal text.

Since the release of iOS 7 earlier this month, a number of users have been complaining about issues with iMessages failing to be sent or received from their iOS devices.

While Apple's iMessage service has suffered from occasional outages, including a minor one documented on the company's System Status page earlier today, some users have been complaining of multi-day outages on their devices, suggesting that something more than a simple service problem may be occurring. Anecdotal reports have indicated that the issue may have worsened with last week's release of iOS 7.0.2, but reports of problems do date further back than that.

Some users have reported that turning their iOS devices off and back on fixes the problem, while others indicate that the solution has not worked for them. In our own testing with a device experiencing difficulties, the following steps appear to have fixed the issue (Note: this will cause your device to forget previously entered Wi-fi passwords)

1. Turn off iMessage in Settings > Messages
2. Reset networking settings in Settings > General > Reset
3. Reenable iMessage in Settings > Messages

Many users are reporting that these failed iMessages are also not falling back to traditional text messages as should occur when iMessage is unavailable. Instead, the iMessages simply hang during the sending process and eventually show as undelivered.

I am a apple user (iPad , iPhone , macbook etc). I fail to understand why we as users are putting up with the crap Apple is dishing out in recent years. iOS7 is nothing but just cosmetic changes on top of an half baked iOS6.

Apple pull up your socks. Mighty have fallen before ( read Black berry , Nokia , Palm) . In today's times no organization in invincible.

As for me , I am moving over to whatsapp for my iPhone to keep in touch.

.
I called Apple about the battery drain with iOS7.

They said, hold the top button until you see the "Slide to Power Off". Slide it off. In this state your battery drain will be greatly reduced.

I think it's working!

Did you know that they sold 9,000,000 iPhones over the release weekend? I don't think that Apple is in trouble because of an iMessage bug. I had a vision that I'm sure will come true: at some point WhatsApp will have a bug that gets out into the wild and will cause minor irritations to its users. They will then fix the bug. Haunting, I know.
