Ha, RE5, the CliffsNotes version of RE4.

Entertaining as usual. The part about him running from his partner to avoid being healed, reminded me of the time my friend was running from a computer controlled Louis in Left 4 Dead, whom was on a healing rampage. My friend was trying for the no-heal achievement or something like that. It's always funny when a friend guns down an AI in anger.

Man this game is insanely hard on Veteran, at least with dumbass Sheva for a partner, it took me 10 tries to get past the "survival" assembly with the executioner.

Majini take quite a beating and don't stumble as easily, it really doesn't help that Chris's melee attacks don't have the same knockback and area of effect as Leon's.

I'm enjoying the game, it's pretty tense but I wish it didn't force coop on you, Sheva easily fails to get out of the fray in tough spots and more often than not she'll get killed when you are doing great. Also, what's up with her wasting all the freaking ammo she has in 3 seconds? Not to mention her absolute relutance to use any weapon besides the handgun unless she has to, I took away all her pistol ammo :p

I'd play with someone online but I want to explore and play at my own leisure and not have some ADD-ridden 15 year old yelling "come on" at me every two seconds.

The game feels pretty much exactly the same as RE4 so I really don't get all the complaints from review sites, they are complaining mostly about stuff that already applied to RE4

The only part where they have seemed to drop the ball so far is on the forced coop, optional coop would have been boss but playing solo with Sheva can be annoying at times.

I thought it wasn't terrible, but i have the SW500 maxed with unlimited ammo. Getting at least one of your guns topped out is super useful!! But the boss battles do get exponentially harder as the modes get harder. You're also completely right about sheva wasting ammo, i just gave her one of the guns a maxed out in order to get one of the unlocks. And then take home all the ammo and treasures. Its easy to make 10-30k per level like that. Good luck with the partners and if you want someone calm to play through with pm me your psn and i will add you

That is annoying. They should have limited the call to something like 5 or times times a minute. This one time, my partner got LOST and was spamming the call button for about 2 minutes, then ended the game. Just because he was near the begining of the level and I was waiting for him at the end, with hordes of zombies dead in my path :p:p

And is the online headset compatible? I've never heard anyone use it, and when I use mine there's no indication to say you're speaking, like there is on such popular online games as Call of Duty.

I've got all weapons maxed out :p Quite a few with no ammo limits. I give Sheva a few nice guns, including a magnum. And what does she do? Yeah, she uses the pistol! I'll PM you my PSN, if you'd like a co-op game with me. Trying to get S rating on all levels, and to collect all BSAA emblems. I've only got 20 :(

Edit: 26 BSAA emblems now! :p Over half guns are infinite :D But I'm having quite a bit of trouble with Mercenaries. :(:(

I just bought Versus mode... What, NO GOD DAMN SPLIT SCREEN!?

ARGH!

How is VS mode anyway? I'm thinking of buying it with the last 6 dollars I have left in my PSN wallet but I've heard some negative comments.

I'm halfway through the game and I'm glad I started on Veteran, it's just the right difficulty and it can get pretty intense at times. Sheva is a dumbass and wastes ammo but at least she doesn't have to be babysitted and will not get killed too easily (for example, she ALWAYS breaks free when enemies get ahold of her, she never dies with the crocs on chapter 3 and she'll only get one-hit killed by majini Dr. Salvador in truly exceptional cases).

I'm still on the fence about this game.

I played the demo again last night. I guess I can live with the controls. Hell, RE4 was the same way, and I loved that game. I still think it feels awkward how my character freezes to the ground when he raises his gun, but oh well.

What I'm more worried about is the coop gameplay without a human coop partner. In the demo, Shiva as an AI partner already got on my nerves. Having to manage inventory for two people ("Give ammo", "Ask for ammo") seems like a chore. Also, when I saw the game over screen because she got killed by chainsaw dude, it pissed me off. Since I don't have a lot of friends with PS3's, and playing the game with a random stranger can be hit'n'miss, I would probably play it alone. Is it still worth the price of admission as a single player experience?

It definitely is, I played single-player (on veteran) for most of the campaign except some parts of the last chapters were my brother played with me and it was excellent, also, to be honest, playing with the AI I died less times than playing with my brother , the thing is, the AI ALWAYS knows what to do, never gets in your way (she always waits for your lead) and like I said in my post above, she doesn't have to be babysitted.

Sheva is not very smart but she will not get killed easily (believe me, humans playing RE5 for the first time get sawed by chainsaw majini and one-hit killed by other enemies more frequently than the AI), when it comes down to her, she'll make it, she only dies when you put her in tough situations so it's not bad.

I'll give you a tip though, always have Sheva and Chris carry different types of weapons so they don't have to share ammo, in my playthrough I let myself carry the pistol and the shotgun and Sheva carried the MGs and rifles, it worked out rather well.

As for the controls and inventory system, they are just a matter of practice, before you know it you'll be mixing herbs and selecting weapons in the slots without shortcut in the midst of battle without a hitch.

This is my first RE game since Code Veronica and after getting used to the controllers I must say I like it. It's a nice change of pace from FPS games. I've only played w/the AI and CPU Sheva is one of the best AI companions, IMO. Sure, she does dumb stuff on occasion, but for the most part she stays out of your way, doesn't get killed easily, and is Johnny-on-the-spot w/health when you need it. Like Chone said, you don't have to babysit her. There have been a couple of times when I've had to run for my life and Sheva has always been hot on my heels.

The single player experience is actually very very fun! If not only to unlock mercenaries, but Sheva is a very adequate partner and i also found that she dies less than human partners, although it is very hard to speed run through the game with an A.I partner. I haven't played some of the boss battles on my own yet, but i think that it would be much easier without the human error. Its definitely worthwhile to get!

That actually sounds encouraging...

We'll see, if I beat Bioshock (haven't started) before Uncharted 2 comes out, maybe I can squeeze it in there. ;)

Bioshock shouldn't take you more than a weekend at most so I think you'll have plenty of time :D

I think it took me about 6-8 hours first time through...

It's good. I like it, it's sorta like Mercenaries online, but there are 2 modes. One where the main objective is kill zombies, but also get a few points for player kills, the other is ALL about player kills. Each mode can either by played every man for himself, or 2v2. It's very good for points, because you get 2500 for winning, 1000 for losing. Great fun, just no split screen. Well worth the £3.99 IMO, hopefully they'll bring out some extra updates for it though...

And as for Veteran, it's not THAT hard! :p But Professional... Jesus. You've got just over a second to revive a downed partner!! So easy to lose health and die.

Edit: I've just gotten Killzone2, so not much RE5 until I've completed KZ2! I'm still trying to complete RE5 100%, just 17% to go! :D

I disagree. Professional mode is near impossible single player, but co-op with a friend is a lot easier. Maybe it's just because me and my RE5 buddy from school own just so much? ;)

And we still need that game!! :p

I posted that message when I first started playing and the general assembly with the executioner on veteran with nothing but a pistol was pretty hard, it did get a lot easier later on ;). Professional is tough indeed, it demands more perfection since one silly mistake and you are dead, almost no chance to recover.

I´m loving Mercenaries, Wesker (Midnight) is probably my favorite character though I have yet to unlock his, Sheva´s and Jill´s alternate forms, he has just the right balance of firepower to fight majinis and the mini-bosses.

I may buy VS mode, for 4.99 its not too expensive and if its nearly as fun as Mercenaries then its already worth it.

It's more fun than Mercenaries, but it can get frustrating. Especially when the other players are all using Wesker, who costs 50,000 bonus points to unlock! I just like playing as Jill ;)

Okay, so I've got a question about this.

I've played through RE5 on 360 co-op... and now I'm playing it again on PS3 co-op. I've noticed that on the PS3 version, I cannot have two gamer profiles logged in at one time. Because of this, Player 2 isn't able to buy anything, just "Organize". Is this true?

And if it is true, it's very annoying. Would that be a PS3 issue, or a RE5 issue?

Definitely true. I would guess PS3 issue, but i do sympathize that it would be nice to maintain a second player. This whole organize vs. buy thing didn't bother me as much as not receiving points that the second player earns at the end of each level. Especially because it shows the points there.

I finally got around to trying the demo in split screen with a friend. I don't think I could play the entire game like that. It was really confusing and hard to see everything that was going on.

If I ever get around to buying it, it will be full screen only. And since by then I will be the only still playing it, I'll have to settle with an AI partner. :)

Playing solo is good.... but not great.

If your only gonna play solo, I'd recomend Dead Space over this if you havent already considered it.

Both good games though :)

Well, I finally picked it up and started playing it tonight! :p

I've gotten to the point with chainsaw dude (2nd level from the demo).

So far, I am really enjoying it!

The controls still irk me though. (Now matter how hard they tried to convince people - being frozen to the ground while aiming a gun was NOT a good gameplay decision and does NOT add to the tension of the game - if anything, it takes a away from the immersion by reminding you constantly that it's "just a game".) But I knew that before I bought it and decided I would deal with it, so deal with it I shall. Hell, RE4 controlled the same, and I loved that game.

Graphics are pretty awesome!

Voice acting isn't bad, but still kinda cheesy at times. Redfield is a bit of a caricature of his original character. The muscles are grotesque, and his dramatic American Badass one-liners are just slightly over-the-top. But that was also to be expected, and it makes for good entertainment.

I'm playing on Veteran, and it's already pretty tough at times. We'll see how far I get.... :D

RE4 controlled the same but RE4 didnt have a choice, the gamecube controller only had one regular analog stick. They couldve used the c-stick but it wasnt very good and the button layout would have made it difficult to shoot. If the gamecube had a controller suitable for controls like that it wouldnt surprise me at all if RE4 allowed you to move and aim.

Its a lot easier to look past limitations than it is to look past design flaws.
