But you don't get my point. Apple allows this out of cortesy. They don't have the obligation to allow it, and can simply pull it out at any time (which is also awful for software preservation).
I know what you're saying. You're saying they have the ability to remove redownloads of things you've purchased, even if they haven't actually done it before.

But this isn't unique to Apple, every company that runs a digital storefront have this potential capability. "Potential capability" does not always translate to "they'll actually do it".

If you really want to get into the technicalities, Apple has the ability to disable the iOS activation servers for all devices older than the iPhone 15, which would render all older devices unuseable and force people to upgrade. That doesn't translate to they'll actually do it.

But then comes Apple's history with this. I don't trust Nintendo or Sony, but I do trust them a lot more than I trust Apple regarding software owership. For example, Nintendo has a good history with this: before deleting the 3DS Store, they allowed users to download their applications offline so they could be loaded in their 3DS forever.

Of course that there's *ahem* emulation *ahem* for that, but it's nice to see that a company respects their users enough to restore a store just so users who purchase their games can safely retrieve them.

The hardware is finally there and both M3+ and A18+ and future Apple Silicon should provide for console capable gaming.

Apple should release an Apple TV Console edition and more importantly an Apple Console+ initiative similar to Apple TV+ to finance production, get exclusives, develop first-party IP and fund studios to port their games over.
We could have a special chip, the M3-Pippin. 😀

I am curious as I saw the fine print saying it doesn’t support universal. Does this mean they expect you to buy one for your iPad and one for your iPhone if you own both devices and want to have the game on both?

If anyone has both can you please report.

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't load properly on iPhone 15 max in UK.

It gets to a page where it says it needs to download 7.7GB and a virtual gamepad appears but you can't press any buttons so it doesnt start downloading the extra content.

I had this issue on my M1 iPad Pro, I just uninstalled the game and redownloaded it and it worked fine then. only the on screen buttons work though, you can’t tap a menu option with your finger.

The clincher here will be Apple releasing an ATV with an M1/2 processor. If they continue in this fashion, it could have the potential to become a console killer.

Think about it. It's the ultimate ecosystem. Play your games in 4K on the big screen using an ATV with PS5 controllers, and then pick up your iPhone / iPad and continue on the move with full controller support.

Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony should be wary, and it probably explains why there have been so few AAA titles on Apple up to now. The big three will have water-tight agreements with publishers to protect their console markets, however if successful, publishers will soon be lured by Apple's royalty payments.

It's just a matter of time.

It means the Mac and mobile versions are two separate App Store listings. If you've bought the Mac version, it won't carry over to iPhone or iPad. However if you buy the iPhone version, it'll carry over to iPad (and vice-versa) but not Mac.

The reason is because Resident Evil Village was previously already released for Mac, but this recent iPhone/iPad version is a different build and so it's a separate listing in the App Store.

The upcoming Resident Evil 4 2023 edition on the other hand, is fully universal so if you buy once on iPhone/iPad/Mac, it'll be playable on all three.

No sound when I tried. Not sure why.

And it doesn’t support family sharing!

I was thinking to myself that with horrendous battery life in modern iPhone's & Apple not interested in addressing the issue, what we really need is a battery draining game to play on the go. What could go wrong?

Can you name a smartphone that has a better battery than the iPhone? 😅

If you have a PC, you can also get it from Steam.

And if you want it to run on CURRENT AppleTVs, install the free Moonlight app: heavy lifting on the PC that then streams the video of the game to AppleTV. Play any PC game on the biggest screen in the house and through the best sound system via the AppleTV you already own.

I didn't think this would work so well but it is AMAZING!

Oh, so you want a list? 🤣

The iPhone has many good qualities – best battery life is NOT one of them. While the battery is usually balanced out well for what it delivers, some Android phones can last up to 2 days with a single charge.

One example of Android phones which have better better battery life than iPhones are the Xiaomi phones. According to this website, a single charge in the Xiaomi 13, for example, can last up to 108 hours, or around 4 days and a half: https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_13-review-2531p3.php

I know Moonlight, but the problem is that it only works if your connection stable. And sometimes it does work, but expect hiccups.

By the way, if you want to host a game and DON'T have an Nvidia device, you can try Sunshine, which makes a non-NVIDIA device pass as a Gamestream client (Gamestream, which Moonlight is based on, is originally an Nvidia-only implementation).

Yes, I should have mentioned the NVIDIA piece. As to stability, that's only home network stability, not broadband speed/reliability. I'm ethernet wired end to end and experience no hiccups.

Good to know about Sunshine.

I see all console/platforms are doing the 60% discount on resident evil Village. Decisions decisions on which platform to buy

Prediction: it will sell poorly (mostly because users consider it “too expensive”). Resulting in no AAA developer releasing a title on iOS/iPadOS/Mac for several years until Apple pays them to do so in yet another experiment to make Apple a viable gaming platform
Except that Vision Pro means that AAA game developers are already all-in on Apple platforms. The games just haven’t been released yet.

All this “debate” and pearl-clutching here on the forums about Apple & gaming is pointless:
if Vision Pro succeeds, AAA gaming is guaranteed to come to Apple platforms
.

And what if another surprise today (or next spring) is a $499 M2 Apple TV Gaming Console (or G1?) to match the capabilities of the Vision Pro in 2D?

Except that with Apple, you're just renting the game; with Nintendo, you purchase the right to use it forever (especially so if you purchase the physical media). While Apple allows most applications to be downloaded if you have purchased it and they have removed it from the store, there's nothing forbidding them to simply remove them from the store AND not allowing you to download it!buying a digital game from Apple is no different then from buying a game digitally elsewhere. I own a ps5 series X and switch and haven’t bought a physical game in 3 years

😄 I agreed, which is why I would buy the console version and get the VR version included for the same price.

I get that some people are excited that Apple is finally giving “AAA gamers” some love, it sounds great to the people (moms, dads, grandparents, and modern “journalists”) that don’t know any better, but that ship sailed a long time ago…

First, Apple Ultimately can only do so much for battery life short of turning it into a literal dumb phone. Second, you have the option to not play the game on the go.
