Agreed! However, if no matte screen option on the iMac, I'll be buying an updated Mini on release regardless.

Yes!! I'll second that. I cannot buy an iMac with a matte screen. Although I agree that glossy screens look lovely, and are snazzy and the colors pop etc -- gloss screens are no good for me for very long hours staring at the screen, e.g. 16 hours a day, doing word processing and writing.

It's not just graphic artists and photo editors who need matte screens. It's for people who need to stare at screens for very long periods of time, day in day out, where there are strong light sources in the background.

I'd like written confirmation that a new iMac won't be brought out within.. 18 months.
Yes, it's less likely than a matte-screen and Blu-Ray Octo Core iMac but I can hope.

Your post is worse on the eyes than any iMac glossy screen

My google search gave me this:
"Rich, vivid color.
No matter what you like to do on your computer — watch movies, edit photos, play games, even just view a screen saver — it’s going to look stunning on an iMac. That’s because iMac now features a glossy display with glass cover that makes graphics, photos, and videos come alive with richer colors and deeper blacks."

ahhh!

so i just came into the market for a mini. switching from a PC (finally!!) and have been looking for a couple of weeks/months...so i get up the cash and go to the apple store to look/buy last night. the guys there told me to do myself a favor and not buy a mini now!?

now i have been reading all the RUMORS for the past few months, and cant decide what to do! so after all that...my question is:

what is the actual possibility for an update this week with the imacs?

thanks.

I can't help but chuckle at the situation I find myself in. Currently a Mini owner but decided it's time to finally bite the bullet and consolidate my Windows machine and my Mac Mini into one nice brand new iMac. I ordered it on Thursday night, and literally within a few minutes of ordering found out that a refresh of the hardware was rumoured. I dismissed it but now it looks like it might happen.

It's due to be delivered Monday so it looks like, if the updates come REAL soon, I might at least be able to switch the iMac for a revised version..

I've watched people stopping and debating whether to order kit on here prior to a rumoured hardware refresh but never thought the one time I finally sprang for a brand new piece of Apple kit, i'd fall into the same trap! Ho hum!

Though some people love the glossy & others are neutral, I quite agree with you. I currently write for hours at a time on a 12" iBook & absolutely love the matt screen. For my needs, I much prefer it to the MacBook's glossy.

I'd love to buy a new iMac (not least for dedicated graphics), but I won't as long as there's no matt screen option. Thus my compromise will be a new updated Mini on release & some other computer with dedicated graphics later.

The new 20" glossy screens may be decent enough for some purposes, but the fact is that they are of inferior quality when compared to the 24" glossy screens & even the old white iMac matt screens. Acceptable? I don't think so.

If I'm within the 14 day return period, can I upgrade to the new model w/o paying a restocking fee?

Hopefully they do indeed upgrade more than the processor. However, it is always exciting when the latest and greatest is released.
That would be awesome.

newest Intel chip (base: 2.4 GHz)
newest hard drives (base: 320 GB)
high-quality RAM (base: 2 GB)
newest video cards (base: ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory)
x16 superdrive

if only my dreams came true... ;)

i think you have 30 days to return it, but only if you didn't get any built-to-order options (like more ram), otherwise i'm under the impression that for some odd reason they'll not take it back (???)... if you ordered a base model you'll be fine... and i think if it's opened already, you'll have to pay a 10% restocking fee... which is at least a little over $100 (depending on the model you bought), so you'll have to ask yourself if it's really worth throwing money away like that...

dang i just got it april 1st, do u think they'll let me exchange it for a new one? i dont mind paying a restocking fee.

When are eSATA ports going to start showing up on stuff? I've already got a couple of external drives that could make use of them.

Do you really believe that eSATA will make its introduction on an iMac before a MacPro or even a MBP. ;)

eSATA would be welcomed. However there is a better bet that BlueTooth 2.1 will be released. :)

The tipping point is if the iMac will come with 2GB single SO-DIMM standard. :D

Make that any Nvidia card with 256 Ram and it would be my dream, along with a 30" screen. :)

As GeekSugar predicted, the prices for U.S. systems appear to be identical to existing iMac configurations ($1199, $1499, $1799). Delivery of inventory appears to be targeted on Monday or Tuesday of next week. No stores have seen any evidence of Mac mini product revisions, however, so it appears the iMac is the only system to be updated.

So, what about the highest end model; the 24" iMac at $2249? Is that going away?

hmm im guess proberbly 2.4 Ghz as a base....cant have the macbooks faster than the imacs!!!

and theyd better put 2gb of RAM in them....1gb just doesnt cut it for a £800 computer...i can get 4GB for that price in a PC.

4 Gb RAM for $89, if I can get that price, what do you think Steve could buy it for? Come on Apple $800 for 4GB of RAM??????????:mad:

it would be hot if they got rid of the current low-end 20" model and only had 3 models instead of 4... this would be sweet for me, as i'm preparing to but the $1799 model... 24" / 3.06GHz / 2GB Ram / Anodized Tangerine color would be tasty!!

they probably are buying it for $89 and selling it for $800... not sure if you've noticed, but Apple can be a little bougie sometimes... remember that $200 AUTHENTIC leather sleeve for the iPod a few years back? or you could just take a look at the MacBook Air to see their current must-have overpriced joke...

well okay! why does everyone hate the glossy iMac? do you put your computer outside on a sunny summer day?! all of my apple products have a glossy display and it doesn't bother me at all (iMac, Macbook)

Would quite fancy an iMac for the house. Would like to see NVidia in it, not really sure why but would like to see that... :D Also 2GB RAM as standard across the board.

Yes! 2 GB RAM as standard is a must. One GB of RAM on desktops nowadays is archaic and not competitive enough.

And I agree with the poster who said the base processor should be 2.4 ghz. Even macbooks have better processors now. And aren't imacs using mobile processors, hard drives, and ram? What is the point of buying what is basically a laptop soldered on to a stand?
