I have an LG display and it is flawless. I have been using it since mid july, so over 3 months now. The screen is immaculate and the picture is amazing. Besides for school work, i use LR4 and play cs:go. With both of these, the image stays on the screen for quite sometime and i have had no problems. I hope that helps.

Umm you basically said your screen is extremely bad or you have no idea what IR even is.

Originally I thought everyone with IR were just being paranoid. My screen seemed flawless originally.

Then things started going bad, first the EFI update and the system never maintaining full speeds on the GPU. And now over the last 2 weeks IR has gotten extremely bad. IR happens now just from browsing the web.

I have tried multiple Nvidia drivers in Windows, and IR happens. It happens in OS X with the both GPU's so I don't think it's a driver issues. To me it seems like a hardware issue.

Excuse my ignorance, how can I tell if my 15 inch rMBP has the LG or the Samsung display? Mine is not giving me any issues so far, but wonder which one I have.

Did you read the original post? :)

If you are unsure on what display you have, go into the terminal and type the following string:

ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

If your display code begins with "LP," it's an LG display. "LSN" is Samsung.

I'm sorry - but 14 computers?!? You've been through over $40k worth of replacement machines.

Given that you are *aware* of the "problem" - I don't get why people have this sense of entitlement for a Samsung display (which are actually WORSE panels). Maybe the computer isn't for you - or maybe you should pay somebody to manufacture you a perfect, 15" LCD panel with that resolution (you'll be looking at a damn sight more than 3k that's for sure).

I'm taking mine in to the apple store on Saturday for sudden dead pixel and IR issues.
I checked for dead pixels a week after I bought it and it was fine, 0 dead. But now two months later, I've counted at least 6.
1 appears to be a cluster of 4 together and is easy noticeable on anything I do.
As for IR. I've had that from day 1 but it was barely noticable. Now it appears to be worsening over time.

I just hope they will change the screen :-(

Hmm... How willing is Apple to change/repair or refund based on these issues? And what are the criterias for changing a screen with IR? How much?

I do NOT want to buy a 3000 dollar notebook and find out after a few months that they refuse to do something about the issues.

Umm you basically said your screen is extremely bad or you have no idea what IR even is.

umm, you apparently have 1st grade thinking skills. His grammar wasn't great but what he was saying was that he uses apps that stay on the screen all day long and they AREN"T showing up as IR.

You are probably part of the "you didn't build it" crowd too

you also have no idea what IR is either then. why would playing a fast paced moving game like CS etc cause IR at all? obviously the SAME static image footprint has to stay on screen in order to cause IR. duh.

I posted this in another thread. This will also explain why you can't ask people with a perfect LG yet since the better screens were shipped out a little under 3 months ago.

Ok here's my experience with image retention.

Now I do believe it was a problem initially when the 15" was released as we saw horrible images of ghosting. However..

Because people like to complain and the ones who complain have the loudest voices on the internet, I believe the ghosting issue was blown out of proportions. Here's why.

These high resolutions displays are going to have SLIGHT IR, but not anything permanent or drastic enough to annoy the hell outta Apple and cause yourself stress.

Then here comes the image retention test

I was part of the paranoia at first and tested my replacement and my original purchase and both had slight IR. Have I had any problems since? No

I believe the batches of LG screens are better than before but when someone does the test when they get their rMBP sees a tiny itty bitty grain of IR, it shows on the internet as "OMGZ THE RMBP HAVE IMAGE RETENTION. DON'T BUY. BURN APPLE"

Proof? Go to that support forum at Apple.com concerning it. They don't even give their macbooks time, they turn full brightness and test for image retention. Why go looking for trouble?

And yes, both of my screens were LG and I only did a replacement trying to get a Samsung screen due to paranoia.

The only cases of horrible image retention from my experience and research concerning the rMBP seem to be ones purchased at launch or during the Summer. Otherwise, ones purchased mid-August through now show little to no IR.

Mine was purchased right after Launch and I have IR now. I didn't notice any IR originally and thought everyone was being a little "Anal" about it.

Now even after closing a web browser I get to look at it again for about 10 mins lol..
So I would have to agree with you.

Geez, your username ought to be steveIamdumb

What he said was that even after running multiple apps for a long period of time, when he closed them he DID not see the ghosting or IR

Pop quiz buddy, I think you are AR. Know what that means? I tried to be nice, but it's either you do not know what you are talking about or you are just trolling for reasons only known to you.

Sorry! I just check and mine is an LG display, so far no issues on normal usage, but haven't done the burn in tests done by some.

Just ignore him - all he does is complain about UI lag and IR, then call everyone who hasn't experienced it stupid and/or ignorant...

Where is the option "I got a samsung and I have no friggin idea if its ghosting. I am blind and dumb"

Took my rMBP in today because of the IR issues I just began to notice last week. The Genius booted into the diagnostic mode, started to run the video tests (I actually had photos of the IR issues on my iPhone as well), then went ahead and checked it in for a screen replacement without even completing them. So I should have it back in 3-5 days with a new screen.

I have an LG screen and have been using it since September (and since I bought it from a retailer, it's probably from a July batch). So far, no image retention. I tested it when I got it, and haven't noticed anything since.

Yeah, I had this exact same situation.
I've never really experienced IR, but after a month I suddenly had 6 dead pixels in a little block right in the upper right middle of my screen. Not super noticeable, but I saw them from time to time.

They just force returned my computer. The replacement had creaking joints/assembly, and the third replacement has been OK. Still has an LG display, but whatever.

Hey how can I test my 13inch rMacBook pro?thanks

That's why not one person has been able to demonstrate IR on a Samsung panel right?

Can't believe people upvoted this nonsense. People pay extra $400+ for this display. It should not have IR. Period.

There has been people with slight IR with Samsung, you just can't see it because this is, of course, the internet.

But yes, the majority of people with Samsung don't have IR, but they have yellow/pink tints, dead pixels, and bluish whites. And yes, this "nonsense" is true.

Then again, people don't have to buy Apple. I don't see why Apple has to be that perfect sanction when it comes to electronics. If people aren't satisfied with their machines, put their money elsewhere. Simple.

I fail to see logic when people are like "Damn Apple and their problematic macbook, let me just keep throwing money and time at them til I'm satisfied."

Because if you have invested in OSX and the ecosystem you're stuck with the hardware whether they're having quality problems or not. If you could easily grab any machine and slap OSX on there I'd agree with you.

'multiple apps'? I like how you conveniently leave out the fact that of the only 2 apps the person tested, one was CS:go which is obviously a fast paced GAME. if you think that's a good barometer to test for IR, then my initial point stands. Neither you or the other poster knows what IR even is.
