I am on a role!! Currently on my 7th rMBP and I must say... WHAT IS THE UP WITH THE PRODUCTION LINE? I must have the worst luck of all time or what...? I encountered trackpad looseness, keyboard looseness, cosmetic damages, pressure marks, and the most common in all the machines I tested... BACKLIGHT BLEEDING. This is absolutely insane and I will be hopefully exchanging for my 8th unit, otherwise I will just return my current machine or the one I will receive. I'm done wasting nearly 7 weeks of my time playing the exchanging game.

I'm certain no one can top me right? Well, hope my 8th unit will finally make me content and end this cycle of exchanging, the manager is already sick of seeing my presence.

guys i have a big problem :(.

My retina macbook pro got a dent from who knows where. I have never dropped or abused my laptop at all.

I have noticed sometimes when typing I hear a popping/cracking sound near the bottom area(trackpad and palm rests).

Today when giving my laptop a clean through I flipped it over and noticed two dents on the bottom side of my laptop.

I really hope Apple will fix this : (.

Wow! I have had 4 total and I finally settled on the last one though it has mild backlight bleed and very minor cosmetic blemishes on the top cover. I decided to cut my losses and just accept that I'd have to live with some minor issues. The most important thing for me was to get a computer that had little to no Image Retention.

Scuff Marks on the Aluminum, with what seemed to be a bit of dust under the front pane.... i refused to accept it(made them open it) and the store worker brought me another... for 3K+, i had better get one that had 0 discrepancies... but turns out, the second one was Perfect! this was also the case for my 2010 MBP...

Returned my first one that had an LG, got a samsung, was super happy and thought I hit the jackpot, although now it looks really yellow, just dont know if I'm imagining it :S

The first one I ordered had extremely bad image persistence (ghosting). Second one arrived and had five dead pixels. It also would not go to sleep and when I closed the lid, the fans would ramp up to 6000 rpm instead of turning off. This was before I installed software or did anything on the computer. I had just logged in to test the screen for ghosting. Sent the second one back and am waiting for them to build and ship the third one.

This is the last chance Apple gets from me. It shouldn't take four machines to get it right.

How did you see 5 dead pixels in the sea of 5,000,000?

I feel the exact same way. I had my first one and it was perfect until this happened on day 7.... I have no idea what caused it. Both were LGs but this one just don't seem as bright and yellowish/ warmer....but I don't know if its in my head since its not really yellow just seems more than other one but I dont really have anything to compare it too .It doesn't seem as bright either the other one I couldn't turn the brightness all the way up this one I can/do. Otherwise seems ok I guess.

They should give you a trophy! 7 rMBP? I'd have given up and got top of the line cMBP with high res anti glare display, I know, it's not a "Retina" but... man! 7 units?!?!?
it's a beautiful computer, I was "playing" with it at the Apple store today too
hope you all find the perfect unit you paid for.

Mine is 2 weeks old, bought it on Ebay from a guy got it from Apple as a replacement of his previous unit (was brand new, basic 2.3ghz with 16gb Ram, completely sealed and came with Mountain Lion pre-installed and 3yr Apple Care, paid $2349 shipped). So far is perfect, but I'm glad am covered for 3 years warranty based on other people experience. I hope being 3 months after release the issues have been resolved by now.

Update:

Instead of a trophy I ended up getting a refund after 2 months since I posted. I went through 2 additional repairs on my 8th rMBP for screen defects and today I was given the option for a full refund since they were not willing to process another repair for visible backlight bleeding under any light condition (Samsung display).

So as of now I am waiting for my BTO 2.6/16GB/512 rMBP since my previous was 8GB and didn't fulfill my needs, although now I may have to go through the exchange game again if I don't receive a perfect Samsung.

I've just received number three and it's the worst yet.

The first one had awful ghosting - to the point that if you wrote an email and spent more than ten mins on it, you could still clearly read it against the background... It also creaked a lot with minimal pressure. The second was marginally better, but had a lot of backlight bleed and had three scratches. It didn't creak and the scratches were covered with an iCarbons cover but I couldn't live with the bleeding. The third is cosmetically sound, but the backlight bleed is awful. It also has a lot of ghosting but no where near as much as the others. That being said I've had it a day and the others got worse with time.

I'm not sure what to do. It's a lovely machine and Apple have been very supportive but I can't keep swapping them out... I get advanced replacements so there is no down time, but I feel guilty re all the postage. I'm not sure I can justify the expense with the backlight issues as my MBA was so much better. That being said, it will be difficult to go back to a MBA after the retina screen...

I hope you finally get what you want. It really sucks you had to go through 8 units and still can't get a perfect one
