If its within the warranty period, call apple and they'll repair the Mac for you.what causes this? My rMBP has extreme ghosting problems and dead pixels. I'd like a new screen.

I thought I was an idiot when I accidentally cleaned my screen with lens cleaner and it immediately began removing the coating. I was under Apple Care at the time and was impressed that Apple replaced the screen.
Hahaha! I laughed so hard! Hilarrrrrrrr---ious!darkedge3's post above just ends mid-sentence - - it looks like Apple got to him before he could complete his exposé!![]()
I am very shocked. Please tell me this does not require warranty.
The most common kind of warranty on goods is a warranty that the product is free from defects in materials and workmanship. This simply promises that the manufacturer properly constructed the product, out of proper materials. This implies that the product will perform as well as such products customarily do.
you need to start with the definition 'normal use' and 'product F up'. i.e. something that should be recalled/replaced doesn't require a warranty. It does. Perhaps you should start with the definition of the word 'warranty':
If the coating on your screen comes off in normal use, it is not 'free from defects' and this is where you need to talk to Apple about their warranty on your machine.
My mid-2014 Retina MBP's warranty expired over 6 months ago. Yesterday I got my screen replaced for free by my local Apple Store.
It is a known problem and the Genius Bar staff should look your MBP up by Serial number. Apple has apparently issued a free screen replacement program for MBPs with certain serial numbers. Obviously they have traced the quality control issue to a specific run of MBPs that were likely all using screens that came from the same factory and had the same defect present. All in all, it was a painless 24h experience for me. Very happy with the service I was provided by Apple despite not having warranty coverage or Extended Apple Care.
If you have this problem, take your MBP in and talk to a Genius. If your MBP meets the criteria they should replace it for free. All i used was a few drops of water and an Apple microfiber cloth. They were right to take care of me like that.
Just happened when I wiped my screen today.
This was the first time I didn't get AppleCare on something, and now I'm a year past the 1 year warrantee. Sigh.
I guess it can't hurt to ask, is there any official mention of a replacement program anywhere, or just the discretion of the employee you talk to? I'd even settle for a compromise repair price. As long as it doesn't spread I guess I can sadly live with it, too.
Afraid to ever wipe my screen again, though.

How often do you clean your display? And with what ?
Its an awful situation that apple has yet to address. Luckily my rMBP is not showing any symptoms, even as its close to turning 3 years old.
Why? They're providing a solutionI smell a class action lawsuit coming out of this....
Why? They're providing a solution
All the people will get is some sort of 25 dollar gift card good towards an apple purchase, while the lawyers rake in the money.
That's kinda exactly what they're already doing...Or have their screens replaced free of charge with better screens that don't do this...
