That's like having a recall and saying why bring my car in to get fixed. They obviously know what's wrong with said materials and have addressed the issue hence the free fix.

I took my MBPr in today and got it back 3 hours later. Invoice was for $850.00. Good thing it was a freebie!

I can't tell you about timing. My late 2013 rMBP is fine.

It's possible that the coating process is subject to some variations in process and some batches of screens get a better coating than others, and it's possible that Apple and its suppliers have changed or improved the process - without some kind of information from Apple, we're all in the dark.
My late 2013 was fine for about 18 months in my hands (it was 10 months old when I bought it)
They haven't solved the QC, but I'll take the free part and service.

Used a 3rd party shop here - Onyx

So, let me get this straight:

You could have had your macbook pro screen replaced.

But because of a single unsubstantiated post on a forum, you rather endure a damaged screen than have your screen replaced, and perhaps, in about a years time, it might wear of again. Or: perhaps it doesn't.

Are you both sado-masochists? Whats up with that?

In my case, it has been needed and couldn't be without it yet.
Still, sooner or later it will have to be done, probably next week or the other.
I believe they replace the whole thing, not just the display itself. The full frame.

I am again lucky at the high level of Apple service from my local store here in the UK. Took my mid 2014 rMBP 13 in at 6pm on Thursday (just over a week ago) and had an email to say it was ready to pick up at 7.45pm on the same evening. Alas I couldn't get in before closure and so picked it up the following morning first thing.

This isn't the first time I have had such a fast turnaround either.

Yes, they replaced the entire frame/display.

They also cleaned the whole MacBook. It was really dirty and I was planning on cleaning it myself. But they cleaned the whole thing with the alcohol whatever solution. My MacBook is literally brand new. Display is "amazing!".

Cool.
I was in no hurry since it's only a bit near the camera and it really doesn't really bother since it's not covering any part of the actual screen. But I'll take it there anyway.

Same for me. I gave it a swipe before I took it in, but Onyx did a detail clean on the body and keys.

I just had my screen replaced since the deadline for this is nearing.

Super smooth. Apple store swapped it out in less than an hour, no problem!

Anyone know if this replacement program is still going on and if anything's changed? I have an early 2015 rMBP that I bought at the end of 03/2015 and I just had this issue come up. Hoping it'll be covered and replaced when I go to an apple store in a few days.

You guys aren't going to believe this. So I posted around August when I got my display replaced. Was very happy with device , 4 hour turn-around and new display. So It's about 3 months later and guess what. It has come back! Even after they replaced the entire frame of the display not just the display.

So this means it was a new replacement from old stock or something. There is no other explanation.

I don't use anything on my display. Not even water. I just wipe it lightly as they told me to at the store. I hardly ever close the lid as it mostly sits on the table open.

Very odd and disturbing. What's happening with QA?

Just thought I'd post in case others see it.

Bought a 2015 rMBP 13" (force touch) in early 2015. Didn't get Apple care.

Coating has worn off similar to the pics posted in this thread .

Hit up Apple support (New Zealand) and they agreed to repair even though the replacement program and my warranty had lapsed. We don't have apple stores but I have to take it to a local authorised repair centre.

This is why I buy Apple. Yes, it's faulty, and the coating on the screen should have taken way longer than 2 years to wear off. But considered I didn't pay for Apple care and they had no obiligation legally to repair it, I'm happy they chose to put the customer first.

EDIT: seems Apple have officially / unpublically extended the repair program

I discovered just today that my 2015 edition 15" rMBP, purchased new in July 2016 (meaning, it's 11 months old today), now has it's anti-glare coating coming off on places. I made a 1080p video and placed it on YouTube today:

Still have 2 years of AppleCare left, but from what I understand the Apple program to repair these problems for free expires October 2017? Meaning, even with AppleCare on my 2015 MBP, I would be charged for the repair after that date?

What really worries me is, how do they fix this? And after the fix, will the same thing happen to that fixed screen a year later?

In all my experiences with taking my devices in for service under Apple warranty/Apple Care, they have gone well above and beyond my expectations. Don't start with whining, threats, and complaining - go in with a positive attitude, an interest in working towards a solution, and expect to be delighted.

I have taken late 2013 models well past their warranty to the Apple store and they had the screen replaced with no questions asked. 3 days turnaround time. I dropped them off in the store and they shipped them back to my home.

Bobob and Fancuku, thank you for your replies. Being courteous and kind to Apple even in times like this really does go without saying. Even so, I am quite curious that even if they do replace the entire screen, will a similar thing start happening a year after the replacement?

Please also keep in mind that I'm located in Japan. Curious if there are times when Apple stores in Japan are not clearly aware of policies outside Japan. Would any of you happen to know of a link to Apple's extended repair program for MacBook Pro screens, especially a page in Japanese?

Thank you.

My MacBook Pro mid(2015) anti glare coating is coming off, anyone know if this replacement program is still going on, I don't have Apple Care. Thank you!
