I definitely in the minority here, but... I don't hate them.

Over time, hate moderates to "I'll have to wait and see one in person" which moderates to "Shut up and take my money" and "Best iPhone ever" once Apple rolls them out. The hate can fly heavily now because there is abundant room that these designs are not how the next iPhone will actually look. However, as rumors pile up adding more and more clarity to the designs- if, in fact, these are the final designs- hate moderates to "wait & see" and then becomes gushing love & praise upon launch. Same movie every time.

“It might just be time to get used to this new look.”

even yall subtly acknowledging in the article how awful these look is crazy lmfao…might have to cop a 16 next fall when they get cheaper

Did they finally manage to have symmetrical speaker grills on the Pros? That’s the bigger news for me lol

Massive chinese phone vibes with those big bumps. Poco or stuff like that.
Looks like they simply want to make it very clear when people have the new model.
I feel they could've just printed "IPHONE 17 PRO MAX" on the back in big bold letters, ala POCO.

Or they could go the extra mile and have Siri loudy announce "IPHONE 17 PRO MAX!" when the phone is taken out of the pocket and also flash the camera light to get people's attention?

Well, at least it will sit flat on a table now so you can type without the phone wobbling.
No it won't if the camera lens poke out from the bar as well, it will be extra wobbly!

Edit: to clarify, I don't mind the bar too much, but what I object to is the raised bar and then a raised lens!

Interesting thing I saw on X today. I genuinely think its more a coincidence than some brilliant design choice they made.

The whole line up looks ugly.. other than base iPhone 17 which looks like an iPhone 16 / 16 plus. Ugh.

It's like they took peoples criticism of that design asking 'why is flash to the right' instead of embedded in the vertical camera thing, and moved flash waaaaay to the right on the Pros and Air lol. courage.

How are these significant changes? They simply extended the block the cameras are housed in - and by doing so just are keep on the path of making these phones less and less sexy.

You could join Apple's design team, Sir.

Would this include something interesting like a vapor chamber or help with prism-style lensing? Regardless, interesting if true.

Good to see this. Not at all surprising to hear that the reverse wireless charging will be exclusive to Pro models. The new Slim/Air model might be a great phone. Sadly it is going to have only one camera/lens.

I've not found reverse charging to be useful in practice but it entirely depends on the user right?

The “camera area” on the Pros is ugly af.

The Air looks sleek, but the fact that it’s a camera downgrade from the base model yet will cost more is baffling. They’re really just throwing anything at the wall to see what sticks, eh? The Mini was a failure, the Plus was a failure, so now the Air is the latest “fourth model” attempt. I guess we’ll see if it’s a huge hit.

I said it elsewhere but a perfect analogy is the late dynastic pyramid efforts. They tried to reproduce the magnificence of earlier dynasties and their pyramids, but the result was a lower-grade facsimile that mimicked the heights of earlier, more sophisticated efforts. This is where Apple is.

This is what I was imagining... The 16pro already has a slightly more pronounced corner radious.

As a person who has experience in both marketing and sales (with selling Apple products specifically and who was once exposed to the processes in Apple staff education) - this concept would be a nightmare to sell both in store and online. because there is hardly any difference between these. Also to make the most profit for the company you need to upsell.

If they are going to make that island the whole width of the phone, why don't they not put the lenses in one line to make the whole island the same height in all phones?

I do not understand Apple's design language and ideas...

I dont see why so many are concerned about wobble when placed on a table?
I'm more concerned about how the phone is held when taking a landscape photo. This means you can only hold the handset from the very edge of the camera array side - my finger generally rests where the flash is being moved to.
This is even worse then the oddly placed camera button on the iPhone 16.
They really need to up their game within their R&D dept.
