I can see the Pro models looking like that but the base model is definitely the weakest link. That half-metal design is gonna make wireless charging a nightmare

I can't quite get into wireless charging (mostly because of inefficiency) when I can push 45w wired. But I get that this is a hassle especially for folks that have nightstand mounts and the like. So I just reach for a cable more often than not

Hopefully the glass and metal portions are color matched, because otherwise, the back design will stick out like a sore thumb (like the antenna lines on the gold iPhone 6/6s models or the gold and rose gold iPhone 7 models)…

If the long camera bump has a practical function i.e. they’re using the extra room for a chip or battery I can live with that, but if it’s just for the hell of it, why design it this way. 🤷‍♂️
It’s also pretty silly to go from steel, to titanium, and then aluminum. Using aluminum means they can’t go very thin.

Maybe revisit and spruce up some of those well-loved older designs, that might be cool. I always liked the 5/5S era.
Or. Do something completely left field. Say what you will but Nothing has an opinionated design language (reminds me of old Apple)

Moving to metal camera bump is welcome — significantly improving durability by limiting glass back to smaller, less exposed area.

This also could enable an actual periscope zoom objective due to having plenty of space in the wide bump.

How that actually looks remains to be seen. I think it can be made tolerable.

Also, a clearly distinct "Pro" look will likely be a selling argument.

Air camera design is weird, wondering what is the technical reasoning behind. In principe for single camera they could chose something like a iPhone 16E, or a 2 camera setup like the 17. Wondering if that has something to do with weight distribution. If the device is so light, it may need to distribute the weight around the whole top part to be confortable to hold.

I think they want you to buy new covers too. That’s why they change the cameraposition a bit.

The new iPhone covers start at $ 99,99 and you’ll only see this coming from Apple.

Any chance that the big panel on the Pro models will include a small viewfinder screen so that the big/better cameras can be used for selfies?

I don’t see a speaker grill on the bottom of the air :/ maybe the rumor about 1 speaker is true. I wonder if it will drop Magsafe or wireless charging in the name of thinness too?

The design of the Pros looks very interesting, can’t wait to see them in the flesh

What’s the practical reason to do that camera layout
The frame is going to be a unibody construction. The camera components will be accessible though the glass panel, the same for the battery and other components for the lower glass panel.

I personally think it’s unlikely. Upgrading the facetime camera makes more sense, along with extending the telephoto zoom.

A back display, especially one that small, is only functional within a certain range — a range that I think can be served better and less expensively by a better facetime camera.

Edit to add: The component costs of upgrading the facetime camera is probably significantly less than adding another display assembly (and probable sapphire cover) to the back.

In the past, these wide camera bumps have been used to make sure the devices don't wobble when laying on a surface, however since the cameras themselves also extend beyond the camera bump, that wouldn't apply here.
That camera bump with that camera layout will now be a diving board. If you thought that wobble was bad, just wait for this one 💀

I've figured out why the camera notch is getting so big. It's not a tally light, as I posted about in the other thread. My prediction is that that space will contain a physical or digital mirror so that you can see yourself while Vlogging and using the main cameras. Could I be wrong? Yes. But this is the theory that makes the most sense to me given the other story about enhanced video recording features for bloggers.
