If they are going to make that island the whole width of the phone, why don't they not put the lenses in one line to make the whole island the same height in all phones?

I do not understand Apple's design language and ideas...
I don't think Apple understands their own design language. They put a notch on a laptop because they were ashamed of the phone notch instead of just owning it. Dynamic island MacBook pro when?

Wedge shape concept... exactly as Apple did when they wanted an ultra thin edge on an old iMac, MBpro and OG MBair. Where they needed more space, that area was thicker. Where they needed less space, that end is thinned. Since camera optical physics demand "thicker" but Apple Marketing wants "thinner" for 10 seconds of "ooooooooh, ahhhhhhhh", give both what they need/want in a wedge-shape phone. I have towards zero expectation of the wedge but share it as a tangible Apple "solution" that they've already used a few times in the past.

Modern Apple seems to be more about "subtraction" while retaining "same great price." So my guess at an Apple solution is to subtract the rear cameras entirely... and the battery too, selling the much thinner "the rest" for the "same great price"... and then offering a line of (good-better-best) essential accessory cases which incorporate the battery and camera options. I would guess this will use some kind of proprietary connector(s) so that only cases from Apple and/or only those willing to pay an expensive license from Apple can be the source of camera + battery cases.

This phone then becomes ultra-thin(nest) for "same great price" while demanding a significant additional fee to be able to use it to jack up the average transaction cost. Fans will help spin how "99% need a good case anyway" and average transaction will take a big leap higher.

Those who do not worship at the Apple alter will likely gripe & complain about the subtraction and obvious money play... but then buy anyway, rewarding the decision in the most tangible of ways... just like so many readily accepted ejecting the whole iMac computer + keyboard + case from the ASD box but paying "same great price" and gushing about it to others... even making it out to be the one and only monitor for any Mac ever since.
But what if the Slim iPhone will have:

1. a titanium body,
2. a physical zoom lens
3. and some next gen battery that will allow for the thin design with an uncompromising efficiency?

Sounds like an iPhone Ultra to me.

Could be that physical zoom lense the more I think about it. But why not dial in a new design that showcases that instead of these bandaids and patches that try to hold on to the legacy of the old look. I'm so puzzled

That I don't understand either as it has potential to make shadows
I suppose these renders could conceal the true intent behind extending the bump — perhaps they would like to have another camera on the other side to enhance its 3D capabilities?

I thought the sarcasm was obvious.
That’s basically what they say in the keynote every year, isn’t it?
My apologies I didn’t realise you were being sarcastic. I thought you were being rude with the “Duh” comment at the end. Yes you’re right that is what they say ever year.

The design language is on par with the Dynamic Island and seems to be mimicking its behaviour on the other side of the device.

I am not focused on the camera layout. I am very interested in the idea of a full metal housing with a glass "window" for the wireless charging. The all metal housing design of the iPhone 5 - iPhone 7 (and iPads) is very nice and a lot stronger than the current offerings. Yes I've replaced the back glass on 12's and 13's. It is the worst!! I wouldn't really mind if the 17 Air didn't even have wireless charging, but I can't see apple dropping that.

I was thinking exactly the same. That’s what Google has done with their Pixel phones.

They look terrible, so must be true. :D This has been the case ever since the iPhone 5 renders leaked, where we complained about the top and bottom bars. Then came the iPhone 6 with its ugly antenna lines and we all agreed "it had to be fake". Then the iPhone X with the notch.

This is just Apple being Apple. Clever marketing. Last years iPhone Pro will suddenly start to feel old.

Oh nice, now you can choose between the iPhone Ugly, the iPhone Uglier and iPhone Ugliest Pro.

Sarcasm aside, it’s still the same iPhone we had for years but only it now comes with a iPhone wide camera bar. Why not make the bars the depth of the cameras so they don’t stick out?

Google made it much more elegant with their pixel phones.

Does the Air totally lack a glass back? It's difficult to tell, but I suppose dropping wireless charging and the glass back would make the phone a lot thinner and lighter. I remember the Nokia Lumia 925 previously had a special snap on case that enabled wireless charging, but it wasn't built into the phone.
