I don’t have an issue with Ford’s infotainment display and how it’s orientated. But what I do have an issue with, it’s over-saturated ‘ugly comments’ this car has. All these futuristic EV vehicles, generally are not all that attractive and because it’s what consumers are used to not seeing traditionally.

I can’t tell you how many people when the Model 3 released, said ‘I would never drive that, that thing is hideous, it looks unrefined, ect.’ And now… those same people that I know, are now driving Model 3’s. It takes time for vehicle design that is very stark looking to adjust, because we’re in a paradigm shift where EV’s are just now starting to become more main stream and haven’t even hit the maturity point yet.

Not everything has to appeal to consumers, but I also want to point out, some of these vehicles really do look entirely different in person —versus—based off just looking at pictures, or videos. Huge perception difference when you see some of these EV vehicles actually in person.

No one is buying it for the name, they are buying it because it's a fast electric SUV. They will burn in hell for destroying the value of the Mustang name. They should have built a low, fast, lean and mean electric beast of a coupe, and saved the Mustang name for that. Instead they built an electric soccer mum SUV, with a decently fast electric motor in it, and burnt the Mustang name to a crisp.
Yep, this could have been the Explorer mach e, or Even escape.

I’m sure all car makers are following latest trends which are mostly focusing on HUGE displays, but seriously drivers need to be looking at the road.

Part of me wants a HUGE display but if it caused an accident and someone died how could I live with myself.

my current car-SUV is a Toyota Fortuner and its HUGE SUV fortunately the entertainment system is dated, so there’s nothing to distract you.

I really don’t like the way we’re headed with displays, EYE’S on the road PLEASE

This is an abomination of a Mustang. It doesn’t even have a proper door handle and it looks like trash.

For 2023 Ford is rumored to be creating an all new hybrid Mustang with a V8 powering the rear wheels and two electric motors powering the front wheels. Now that sounds interesting! You get great gas mileage 90% of the time and then when you want that throaty V8 to rip you get that as well.

You also get AWD so the Mustang will finally be a practical car in areas that get snow, even if the ground clearance is fairly low. My main concern is how much it will weigh, especially if the engine and motors are all up front that would put a lot of weight on the front. Kinda wonder if they would consider driving the front with the V8 and the rear with the electric motors? Guess they could stack the batteries in the back, taking up part of the trunk space in the process.

I’m curious about range. Hoping it’s at least 120 miles so I can drive to see family on electric only. 180 would be ideal but that’s a lot for a hybrid, even in 2023. Although who am I kidding, I’ll wait a few years for them to work out the kinks so it will probably be towards the end of the decade before I get one. I’ve always wanted a Mustang since I was a kid. Something like this I could actually justify to my wife but it will probably cost a ton.

A lot of car manufactures forget about whats important on a car...reliability and ergonomics
Now everyone is chasing this stuppid who get the larger displays in their car...probably in the future you will get a touchscreen steering wheel also
I think the biggest issue with EV is range. I'll take a 400 mile range over 200 any day, even if a few other things weren't as nice. (I ordered a Tesla 3 long range the other day... Expected in January.)

Where’s your proof this has outsold the S550? If your talking about 2021 it’s at end of life most people are holding out for the S650 at this point so sales these past few years will be lower but I still doubt this even out produced them.

Ford’s own numbers had the Mustang Mach E out selling the rest of the Mustangs in 2021. It sold more that the 2 door mustangs.

I’ve got one, and it‘s a bit love/hate with the screens.

The climate controls are awful. I’ve had several cars now that have touchscreen controls for full climate control features, but this is the first car I’ve had that didn’t at least have basic hard buttons. I always thought it was stupid to have both, but only having them on a screen is a pain. I would have much preferred the screen to be smaller and had at least some buttons for the climate underneath it.

The screen is a bit awkward to use while you’re driving, but since the car kind of takes care of itself while moving, especially if you have the cruise control on, it doesn’t feel as sketchy as it should if you have to poke around on the screen for a few seconds.

There could be a lot more information on the driver screen. The screen is pretty big with a lot of empty space. It feels wastful.

The wireless CarPlay is so nice that I bought a dongle to enable this on my other car. It really is nice, just having it pop up when you start the car while your phone is in your pocket. It works just as well for Android Auto, too.

I really wish that CarPlay could tell when the car is not in motion and let you watch video when the car is charging. Not that I’ve ever sat in the car and waited for a charge, but I’m sure that it will come up sooner or later.

I also wish that updates were more reliable on this system. I’m kind of tired of hearing about all of these new features while mine has yet to receive a single update. It pisses me off to see the screen say that my system is up to date when I know for sure that it isn’t.

Not that this is unique to the Mustang, but I’m really enjoying that I can drive my 50-mile-each-way commute to work five days a week for just $40 a year. That really takes the sting out of complaining about the features.

Does the Mustang have Carplay on one or both screens for GPS? On my Jaguar, it's a bit annoying that the GPS on Carplay only works on the middle screen - it can't replace the builtin map in the instrument cluster or the directions in the HUD.

Gave up on wireless CarPlay years ago because it was a crazy battery drain. Even short trips would have a very noticeable impact. Has that changes?
That’s not really an issue when you can just clip your phone onto a MagSafe charger.

One big thing that all vehicle manufacturers need to get behind is the ergonomics of physically connecting a phone. I use a Brodit adapter to hold my phone in place, but a) I had to buy it b) it’s clearly an afterthought to the car design and c) it always gets knocked off by servicing staff each time my car is in the garage. How much simpler life would be if my car had an integrated MagSafe area somewhere on the facia.

Adapters that clip onto ventilation grilles are the pits. Bad ergonomic design. I would always avoid such monstrosities.

Lots of white Teslas near me. From behind, they all look like giant sports bras. Now that the image is in your head, you will never look at a Teslas the same way again.

In the VW, you put it on the wireless charger which is in a confined space, it barely charges and sometimes overheats due to charging+WCP overtaxing the iPhone.

Combined with the lag, and I just use BT for audio, and then if I want carplay I plug it in. Faster, charges correctly, and though it gets warm it doesn’t overheat.

I think there should be a restriction on infotainment size. Something like can be very distracting and could contribute to increased road accidents.

I've been driving one for a few months now. I compared it extensively to a Polestar 2 and briefly to some plug-in hybrids. The Mustang Mach-E (MME) was the clear winner. It's a real family car that seats 5 comfortably. The range is way out there: in a comparative test by the Norwegian car federation, it came out all the way on top. And it drives like a dream. Best car I ever had.

As for the standard random responses here:
  • The name. Who cares? Ford decided the project should be important to them, so to instil the importance into the people working on it, they called it Mustang. It's got a horsey logo. So what? It's a car, it's not a membership of an exclusive club. Very few people ask me - hey, you got a Mustang! But lots of people say - hey, nice car!
  • The looks. For being one of them medium sized SUVs, it looks very nice indeed. I think it looks nicer to the Jaguar i-PACE, which is lots more expensive and gets half the real-world range. It draws the looks. I personally like the Polestar's Scandinavian looks even better, but that car is compromised in range and size, and I never got comfortable in the seats.
  • The user interface. A Tesla is really all touch, no buttons. The 3 doesn't even have a dashboard behind the steering wheel. That was a complete blocker for me. As for the looks, I'd rather have it be bland than attract attention all the time. It's nonsense to say that a 15" touch screen distracts you. Have you ever swapped a cassette tape while driving (back in the '80s, remember?) Now that's much worse than briefly looking, then pressing a touch area. SYNC4A has really big buttons for just about anything. It's not a problem. Most crazy stuff you'd want to try (look up an artist on Spotify, for example) is blocked except through voice commands. BTW, I hardly use the volume button as there's the usual rocker on the steering wheel.
  • There are very few minor quibbles. The wiper interval was useless until recently. I think they fixed it in an update. Wireless charging sometimes stops, but it seems to be related to the positioning of the phone in the tray. Airco is a bit noisier and a bit more focused on auto modes than I'd like. And I had to search long and hard to find that third one.
All in all, if it's for you, just drive and enjoy it. If it's not, then pick another car!

That looks horrific. Designed by a millennial whose life is in portrait. ?

I know what I am not buying!!!

This is probably the #1 thing that I wish my Tesla Model 3 had. I can't imagine that it's not possible - just a software issue.

Personally, I prefer the much much cleaner Tesla UI. CarPlay looks like a childs toy in comparison. With that said, I do like the look of maps.

I own a Mustang Mach E. It handles my wife’s and my phone great. It is also super easy to flip between phones. My wife will sometimes go in and just set it her phone to connect and it flips from mine to hers.

My phone is set up as the default and preferred phone so it will connect to mine first if it is in range. That can be a little annoying in the morning as I have been working from home so she takes the Mach E my phone will connect but honestly she drives off and it will flip to hers just fine. That or she overrides it’s. I also think that the default phone can be set threw the profiles and we do have different profiles so I am looking into that.

That all being said I love the car and the huge screen is not really an issue as most of the stuff is laid out really well. I do wish the temp buttons where buttons along with the heated seat controls but for the most part it is a set it and forget it. Heated seats and steering wheel will turn on automatically.

My wife loves the car as well and she was a little uneasy at first and let us get it mostly to keep me happy. Now it is our go to car.
Did you get the standard or long range? Looks like it is only a difference of 70 miles per the website. Also, what do you do for a long trip? Are there superchargers like Tesla that can charge you in 30-60 min? (This may be a dumb question lol but it’s a concern I have and I’m really interested in this car).

If I was still in my old car, I'd be saying the same thing as you, but most modern cars have climate controls similar to the ones in your house—you set the temp and it regulates fan speed and location (windshield, body, or feet) to maintain that temp. That's how my Model 3 handles climate control, and how I'd imagine the Mach-E does it too. I generally keep my temp between 68-70 and regardless if it's summer or winter the car cools or heats the cabin perfectly.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've manually changed the fan controls in well over 6 months now. I basically have adjusted it once so airflow is split going to the right and left side of my head instead of in my face, and have left it there since.
Exactly this. My 2013 fusion has the “thermostat” mode. I set it to 72 and just deals with it. I have had this car since November 2012 and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve adjusted fan speed manually lol.
