60K? For a RAV-4 with an ugly grille?

Why on earth would someone buy this?!

A Mercedes GLC or BMW X3 would be a much better purchase. Hell, a CPO Porsche Macan is in the 60K range. Not too mention the Volvo XC60.
All much better choices.
All much better leases*

So much hate against Lexus in this forum ?

Ironic knowing that many of the cars Apple uses for their maps/testing are Lexus'.

And this review is about carplay which itself is 99% the same except for the car makers integration to their vehicle.

This car would be fine to drive. Its really no less exciting to look at and operate than most of the others in the class. There really is no SUV at the moment that is interesting to me for what I like from a car. Maybe the GLC or GLE AMG 63 versions but I dont want to deal with maintenance. Thats why I go for the Japanese cars. Not exciting but enough that I can get someplace trouble free.

Only crazy dealers will markup $40k over MSRP no one is going to buy it. You can buy Taycan base model with that price.
Have you actually tried buying a car recently? Even Porsche dealers want to start negotiating at $20K above sticker....

So what do you consider luxury? Last time I sat in a BMW at the auto show it was a plasticky piece of crap. Do we have to go up to Bugatti?

What BMW?

Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, some Lexus models. Really anything which is on its own platform and is well designed. RWD bias is a must.

Why on earth would someone buy any of the vehicles you claimed were much better choices? Those are all trash, except for perhaps the Porsche.

Yes I have. There are dealers that don't charge markup you need to shop around. 40K markup for Lexus (almost the same price for another car)? Only a moron will pay $40k markup. There are some P dealers that don't markup but have add-ons that are more useful than $20k cash markup.

He/she doesn't get some people buy Lexus for reliability, you can drive Lexus until the wheels fall off with 300k miles in odometer. I have a cousin he still has his original LS model from 90s still running. BMW and MB??? Good luck getting 100k miles out of them without paying through the roof with repairs. ?

Imagine considering Lexus as luxury. lol.

After owning ( well, one lease and one bought ) M5s, RS7, SQ5, and an AMG E63 ( non S ), yes.. Lexus is def. a luxury brand that doesn't fall apart after 50K miles, isn't loaded with plastic crap ( AMG being an exception here.. ) and doesn't cost an arm for parts and repairs even as a DIY.

The Euros were fun to drive, not so much once maintenance kicks in!

Been there, done that.. many times! My GX 460 and LX 570 are not just luxury, they're keepers as well, IMO of course.

Well.

I currently drive a 2009 335i with 140K miles on it. Except for one failed injector, it’s been routine maintainence. Daily driver.

Also in the fleet:
- 2004 Mercedes C230. Only routine service, except for a failed ignition coil at 180K miles. Currently at 190K now.
- 2013 BMW X3. 50k miles. Routine service except for a water pump, which didn’t fail and was replaced under a service campaign.

So I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Test drove an ES350 the other day for my grandfather. No body control, awful brakes, antiquated and simultaneously infuriating infotainment system. Was a 2017.

I’d much rather drive the 2009 BMW to 300K miles than some overpriced Camry or RAV-4.

Does anyone know if the integrated Apple Music (not CarPlay) includes podcasts? I am eagerly waiting for Apple Music natively on my Tesla. I subscribe to Apple Music and just recently Spotify because Spotify (and now Tidal) is in the native infotainment on my Model 3. Sure, I can stream playing podcasts from my iPhone through BT, but it’s much more convenient to have the native streaming Ui on my 15” Tesla screen.

What, no brake rotor replacements? They must be close to paper thin now....

Normal service - so yes, brake rotors/pads were changed about 70k miles ago on the C230.

The 335i got about 80K on the rotors/pads until the service reminder came on. Only change from the BMW service interval is that I’m changing my oil every 8000 as opposed to every 16000 miles. The C230 runs the 12500 OCI as specified by Mercedes.

Your bias is showing.

Just because you drive extremely old Mercedes and BMW vehicles (ew), doesn't mean new Lexus vehicles are bad.

I'm of the opinion that BMW X3 is crap, one of the least impressive options in this segment. The Lexus NX which is probably the top seller in this segment, is far better, for the money. Calling Lexus an overpriced Toyota is an old argument that has been recycled by NPC's like yourself.

It's a PHEV... It is behind the curve, but it is still a solid car.
It is but Toyota's lack of a pure EV is going to ruin them. Their hydrogen division are doing quite nicely with the heavy vehicle development. PHEVs are also a useless tax dodge, half of PHEV owners (the ones I've seen in the work carpark) never charge the battery.

It’s a testament to their reliability that I’m daily driving a nearly 20 year old Mercedes, and a 10+ old BMW.

The NX is a fancy RAV-4. FWD bias, poor interior quality. Something like a Lexus GS is worth the money, yes, or even the IS.

I have experience with plenty of newer BMWs as well. Mum has a 2017 330i which has been flawless, as has my friends’ 2019 C300. They’re just not old enough to have had than many miles out on them, especially with COVID.

The X3 is a RWD bias SUV. Would I purchase one? No. Mostly because I like small cars which are low to the ground.

Having driven one though, and then driven an RX450h, I can tell you one doesn’t dive under braking, is stable with emergency lane changes at 70 mph+, and has a much better interior.

The other one feels like a Highlander with fancy (but soft and thin leather), with too much front weight, awful interior design, and way too much body roll.

What an ugly exterior design … reflection of declining emphasis on the arts in schools … the front door ending in this straight vertical line … omg

Lots of German cars snobs here. Lexus is the most reliable car brand always #1 yr after yr. Doesn't matter if your German cars last over 100k you've already put in thousands of dollars maintaining. Maintenance for German cars are very expensive that's why most people lease or never bother to do regular maintenance.
