I purchased the Rhino Shield PlayProof during their Black Friday sale. The case cost me $24.99 shipped, which I believe is a great value for this case. I'm going to review it and give you my opinion of this case.
Firstly, the packaging of the case is excellent. The color of my case Dark Blue.
The case feels very well made and it appears the materials used are high quality.
There's a honeycomb type pattern inside the case, which Evolutive calls eggdrop technology. The case is a hybrid design of two materials. You can clearly see this in the pictures. Evolutive claims the combination of their eggdrop design and their special polymer gives this case an incredible 11.5 feet of drop protection.
I watched Aaron's video review, at Mobile Reviews and he tossed this case around extensively. He also dropped it from about 10 feet and there was no damage to his iPhone. It was an impressive display of PlayProof's drop protection capabilities.
@kgenova (Kristin) also did a great YouTube review of this case, going over its features and showing close up shots of the case. Check it out!
What's truly amazing about this case, it's super thin for such a highly rated drop protective case. Plus, it's very light. 26g for iPhone 6 and 33g for iPhone 6 Plus.
The picture below compares thickness versus a variety of iPhone cases and the PlayProof. As you can see, the difference is quite measurable. This case barely adds bulk and length to the iPhone. When compared to the PlayProof, all these other cases felt huge on my iPhone.
The case fits like a glove and it installs fairly easy. There's no play around the perimeter of the case. It has a nice snug fit.
The camera cutout is well done and the case has a nice protective lip, which allows you to safely lay your iPhone bottom or face down on a flat surface. The buttons are super responsive and very clicky. I can easily say the responsiveness of the buttons are some of the best around, if not the best in my opinion.
In regards to grip, I wouldn't categorize this as a grippy case. It's slippery on the back. The sides do have more grip. I personally would have liked more grip. If grip is high on your list of musts in a case, you may want to look elsewhere.
Having said that, there are trade offs between cases. I like that this case is really thin, when compared to others in its class. I like the amazing drop protection and super responsive buttons, so for me these things override its lack of grip.
I believe as the case wears in, they'll be a little more grip. After using the phone today, I'm already noticing the case feels more comfortable in my hands, but this could be me getting use to the case.
How Evolutive Labs was able to create an 11.5 foot drop protective case that is so thin and light is truly amazing. Minus its lack of grip, this case offers everything you would want in a drop protective case.
If protecting your phone is your number one concern, you really can't go wrong with the PlayProof.
Overall I'm super pleased with PlayProof's thin form factor, the fit and finish is excellent and the buttons are just perfect. I can honestly say this is a super case. I can highly recommend it.
