there is no difference between the 'smoke' and 'black frost'.

they are both the same.

Do you work for Incase? Because obviously there is a difference with the older Smoke and the new "Smoke". The older ones are much lighter vs the newer ones. Look at the pictures and you will see.

Does anyone have both a "Smoke" and "Black Frost" to do a direct comparison?

I wonder if there really are two colors or if it could just be the difference in the lighting of photos in this thread.

The box for my case said "Black Frost" but it is defintely the same case lighter appearing case pictured in the photos early in this thread. In less direct lighting it does appear much darker and looks like the pictures later in the thread of the darker case.

I will take a picture tomorrow, I have the black frost and my coworker has the smoke. They are definitely different.

Could you possibly take a side by side picture? That would be really nice to see if there is a difference because sometimes I think too that it is the lighting. Then we can show Incase and rub it in their face and their stupid customer service people.

So regarding the Smoke/Black Frost light/dark thing.

I ordered one directly from the goincase.com webstore.
It showed up today labeled as Black Frost, however, it is VERY light.
Nothing like the darker/more opaque pictures I've seen.

At the Apple store near my home, they have about 50 "black frost" cases on their wall racks, and all of them are the extremely dark versions.

I have a feeling that the Smoke cases that Apple has, and used for the free case program as well are the darker variants.

I just found out yesterday that the free case program is still working, even though its past the 30th, so I ordered another Smoke case, if its the darker one I'll show you guys the difference.

If it is the lighter one however, I'll just send my incase order back.

P.S. the lighter version looks absolutely dope. Best minimalist case I've seen.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see both side-by-side. And I would just like to note that the case that I received from Apple's free case program was the lighter smoke case, although I'm not sure if the box said "Smoke" or "Black Frost", and I don't have the box anymore to check.
(I posted pictures in this thread earlier: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/11124449/)

Contemplating on whether or not to purchase this case. My question is does this case collect a significant amount of dust?

I would love to see a side by side as well, i still think its the same and just the angel the picture is taken.

Also does anyone know if the snap fits on nice with a back shield on ?

the smoke and blackfrost are the same.

the opaque one posted earlier probably came from a bad batch.

I have the same case in clear from the free case program and I love how it looks and feels but it creaks! I also checked with a co-worker that has the same case and his also creaks when you squeeze the sides even slightly. I am about to go back to my cheap eBay case; the finish is obviously not as nice but it fits better and there is no creak at all when I use it.

I have this case, the clear one, and I must say I'm not impressed with this case for two reasons. One, it's like stuck so I can't get it out to get rid of the dust that is building up in between the iPhone and the case. Two, it's cracked slightly at the top and I didn't even drop it for the crack to be there. Also, one thing I should point out is that the dust build-up seems to have led to the back cracking.

Believe me, I know I didn't drop it for the crack to happen. I didn't even know it was there until I had it under decent lighting and just happened to look at it then. Any suggestions on what I might expect if I were to take it in? I'm curious since this sounds like what they're calling the "GlassGate" now except mine isn't shattered fortunately, only a small crack on the back. Thanks for any advice you might have on this. Oh, I almost forgot to add that I got this through the free case program if that might have any relevance.

My coworker finally brought his case to work, I have side by side pics. Once I get home I will upload them. Isn't there a free app to upload/host pics?

Well that pic makes it pretty clear that they are different. I'd love to hear Incase's explanation for that.

I ordered the Incase Snap in black frost from Apple's Case program on October 2nd. It came in a few days ago and it's not opaque/dark at all. It's quite translucent like other pictures in this thread. It says black frost on the box too.

I've had my Incase Snap (clear) case since late August.

A beautiful, nearly prefect style of "clear and thin" case to show off your iPhone 4's beauty.

If you enjoy taking pictures with your iPhone 4, it's useless. The "flash ring" doesn't prevent flash glare. Even in just moderately low-light conditions the smokey, almost blue-tinted flash glare is easily noticeable, and even without the flash in normal lighting conditions, if you look closely you can tell a slight difference in the lighting.

Aesthetically, a great case. If you're into taking photos, however, go for something else, like a sleeve or thin pouch. Ideally, nothing should be close to or around the camera lens or flash when taking photos.

just got this today, ordered through the case program app on oct 2nd, but i got the much darker version

Received my Snap Case the other day, and it was labeled Black Frost. I didn't order the label "Black Frost" specifically, just ordered what I thought was the Smoke (as opposed to the Clear). There was no label on the website itself. My order confirmation email said "Smoke".

Anyhow, my Black Frost looks identical the Smoke that three of my friends have. Wonder if there's some variance among production runs. And I wonder why the name change? There doesn't appear to be a consistent difference between the two labelings.

For those that use the Snap Case as their primary case, do you put any other protection on the phone?
If you don't use a screen protector or anything else, how has the phone held up?

I've been using the Slider case since I got the phone in August and recently saw multiple scratches on the antenna and am pretty annoyed. I've never dropped the phone and have taken excellent care of it. I have a spare Snap Case from the free case program and am contemplating switching to that instead.

I got mine over a month ago. Only use a screen protector combined with this case and phone is still mint.

I've had mine for 3 months now. Two months with the inCase Clear and the last month with the Smoke. I don't use a screen protector. It is still pristine and scratch-free.

Thanks for the replies. I put on the Snap Case last night. It's growing on me. At first I was hesitant because it doesn't protect the top or the bottom of the phone, but I'm going to give it a go for a while. I really don't like that the Incase Slider scratched up the sides so much, but it did provide great protection from external sources.

There is officially two versions

Guys, I went over today to an Apple Store in Orlando and saw that they had both the darker and clearer version in stock. I inspected both packages carefully and BOTH are labeled black frost the only difference being that one of them had a label in the front side of the packaging that mentioned the feature of the ring that prevents the flash glare. Other than that, the packaging is the same, but one of the cases is clearly much darker than the other.

I've been following this thread on a off for a few weeks and after seeing what I saw today, I believe it's an insult to our intelligence that Incase would try to fool its customers into thinking that there only one version of the black frost going around.

Anyways, I prefer the clear, but I would definitely choose the lighter (smoke) version rather than the darker one.
