Thanks Mac App Store! Now open-source erstwhile free software costs money and lines your pockets.

If they wanted to make it cost money, then fine, but to include Apple in the deal - no thanks. I found Growl without Apple and they're not reaping the benefit of hosting the thing.

Mac App Store is the biggest and most obvious way to siphon money from everyone, developers and users, for providing a service we never needed.

Screw 'em.

How is this Apples or the Mac Store's fault at all? It was the devlelopers decision to distribute via the Mac Store, they could just as easily make the software commercially available for download after paying direct from them.

God forbid they get paid for working on making the framework that other companies use. Apple shouldn't charge for OS X because people use OS X APIs to make apps!

I can understand some of the UI gripes (they still haven't fixed the application preference pane to act properly) but complaining about having to pay less than a coffee for the update on MAS is just ridiculous.

Those of us that have donated in the past though have the right to be annoyed at them now forcing us to pay for something we've gotten "free". I still think the app store is a cruel joke put over on us OSX users. I just turned off the auto-checking for updates and will continue to use the prior version. It's worked 100% for me in Lion so far. If in future versions it stops working I'll just compile from source. It's simple to do.

I just noticed if you click on donations now they're no longer accepting donations. I'm sure it's a result of them now making money via app store purchases now.
