You don't have to go to a corprate store to do that - you can do it online. But all that does is unlock it for use on Verizon postpaid - all Verizon 4G LTE phones are carrier SIM unlocked out of the box. Paying for 1 month just lets you use it on Verizon postpaid. Make sure you pick the $30/mo WiFi only plan if you are going to do that.

The Verizon Moto E doesn't have the radios or the firmware to work on Sprint. It is carrier unlocked out of the box but it doesn't have the hardware or the software to work on Sprint. It works on TMobile though.
[doublepost=1463802525][/doublepost]Exactly. If you used the voice minutes more you may notice the latency of the voice calls. Each person has to try it themselves to know.
[doublepost=1463802613][/doublepost]I am not really complaining just explaining why I can't use it as my primary phone. I do make a lot of voice calls.

I did try Hangouts with Verizon and the call quality was an issue. I haven't tried it in awhile, I will try it on my R+ lines and see how it goes. I wonder how much more a roaming VoIP call would be compared to a roaming voice minute call?

Thanks for spelling that all out.

So I'm back to square 1 then...I don't have another phone that will work w/ Ringplus other than the 6s. And though taking out the Verizon sim and putting the Ringtone sim sounds easy enough, it's a bit inconvenient for me with the disability I have now.

Decisions, decisions...

On the Slick Deals thread, people sell placeholder ESNs for $5 and you can use those to hold the line until you get a phone for it. Then it is $1.99 to swap phones.

And the $1.99 comes out of the top-up that you already loaded on your account, so you don't actually pay anything extra to swap. You just lose $1.99 from your account credit.

Just pointing this out to people new to RingPlus.

Thanks...I'll consider it.

I really don't have a real need for a second phone, but the consideration unfolded when this was first posted.

Yep! You just won't get LTE Plus/Sprint Spark (band 41) which offers faster speeds if it's even available in your area. However, you will get Sprint's lower spectrum bands (25 and 26), which is much more important for coverage.

My iPhone SE doesn't have band 41 either, but my speeds are just fine without it, especially for free.

New free plan. 5000 MB plus more every month!

RingPlus is doing a research project, so this plan is a beta test. They're "researching the field of data compression, speed variation, and data stream sponsorships" so your speeds may fluctuate and you may see ads in Internet searches, though I'm not sure how they plan on doing this. But on to the plan.

5000 minutes
5000 texts
200 MMS
5000 MB

+500 MB each month you keep this plan up to 10,000 MB. So you start out with 5,000 MB the first month, then get 5,500 MB the next month, then 6,000 MB the month after that, on and on until you get almost 10GB every month for free. Top-up is $30.

If at any time you decide you don't like this "experiment" you can switch to a free plan with 3700 minutes/texts/MB and 200 MMS every month. This plan includes tethering for only $20/year.

This plan is available today at 5pm Pacific until tomorrow at 10pm, though there are a limited number of spots. If those run out before 10pm tomorrow, it's too late to get it.

But just think in less than a year you can have 5000 minutes and texts, 200 MMS, and almost 10GB of data for free every month, and all it costs is $30 one time that gets loaded in your account.

How do you know about these plans. I can't find it on the website anywhere and how do you activate it?

social.ringplus.net

They usually post upcoming promotions the day of, so you have to check it every day to make sure you get a good one.

All you need to activate one of their plans is a compatible phone and a Sprint SIM card. If you have a Sprint phone without LTE, all you need is the phone's MEID.

When you sign up for the plan, it'll ask you for your phone's IMEI/MEID and, if you're using an LTE phone, the ICC ID that's listed on the SIM card. All you have to do is enter the correct info, pay the top-up with a credit card, and put the SIM card in the phone (if applicable).

You may have to reboot your phone and/or perform a PRL update (you can Google that), but it's very simple to sign up for this service and get going.

Where do you get sprint SIM chips?

Another 4K plan is out. I'm late, so it's only available for the next hour.

4000 minutes
4000 SMS
4000 MB

No overages. Once you use up your allotments, it cuts off so you don't have to worry about getting charged extra money.

You can buy an additional 1000 minutes for $9, 1000 SMS for $7.50, and 1000 MB for $9.

Tethering is $6/month if and when you want to add it.

Research plan available again.

5000 minutes
5000 texts
200 MMS
5000 MB

+500 MB times the number of months you keep the plan up to 10,000 MB total. In 10 months, if you stick with this plan, you'd have almost 10 GB of data free every month.

$35 top-up. Overages are 5¢ per minute/text/mms and $15 per GB.

If you decide you don't want to participate anymore, you can downgrade to a plan with 3500 minutes/texts/MB + 200 MMS with an option to tether for $20/year.

There are only 300 spots available for new line activations so it probably won't last long. Existing customers can upgrade a line for $35. Only 300 upgrades available also.

Well, I've just ordered a sprint ip5 from Swappa for cheap, so just a matter of waiting till the next good promo (3500 minutes or higher) and signing up.

Shouldn't take very long. I have about an hour left in the first month and haven't even used half of my 4000 MB.

Starting tonight until Saturday, they're offering a plan with 3750 minutes/texts/MB. Tethering is available for $5/month. Top up is $27.

If they go back to the 5gb... I'm so tempted for my son's phone. Is the service worse that regular sprint?

I ordered the sim today but don't have enough to complete the registration with the promo.

I'll probably have to wait till it comes around again.

You could try getting a SIM card from Best Buy or an Apple Store within the next two days if there is one of the two around you. Best Buy charges $10 I believe. I'm not sure if Apple charges for one but there's no guarantee they'll give you one. Some people have luck and some don't.

But if you can't, then there's nothing to worry about because a plan as good or better will come out again eventually.

I'm sure Sprint post paid gets priority, so if and when the network is congested, you might get better service on Sprint than RingPlus.

Also, because RingPlus makes money from ads when you call people while the phone is ringing, they have to route calls through their servers which adds to the latency. It seems to be worse for some than others. For me, latency is about a second, which is completely tolerable in my opinion. It's never been an issue for me, though I mainly use Hangouts to make calls over data anyway.

If you have a compatible phone and can get your hands on an inactive Sprint SIM card, you can try the service out and see for yourself if it's any good. It would cost you around $30, and if it's not good enough for your son's main line, you can still keep it and use it as a backup since it doesn't cost you anything extra after that.

I just ran the ip5 IMEI # thru the ringplus BYOD checker and it is not finding a match.

Did I receive a dud?
