Which brings up the next question...

WHY THE HELL IS THIS PRACTICE LEGAL???!!!??!?!?!!oneone

Seriously, this is about as anticompetitive as you can get. The government should be all over these creeps. But no, we have the wimpiest government ever today when it comes to anti-trust issues. :p

Grrr.

because to be a member of MCX/CurrentC consortium, you are specifically forbidden from accepting other types of digital payment.

so they must have stopped accepting when they realized they were in violation of this policy.

Right now solutions like Apple Pay and Google wallet are more secure than swiping my card and using my pin.

Most banks are not currently offering Chip and Pin solutions in the USA. People will absolutely shop elsewhere to be better protected from retailers being hacked and their credit and debit card information being let loose into the wild.

Right now as it stands, you are at the mercy of the retailers IT department, specifically their security analysts ability to keep their servers from being hacked.

Most banks are offering chips now, just not the PIN part, and there's no plans for them to ever do so. Which makes Apple Pay the only reasonable solution for those who want more security.

So you think the US Government should drop what they're doing and save all the iPhone 6 users who can't use their shiny new smartphones to pay for stuff at Rite-Aid?

Sounds completely reasonable to me.

Wrong. They did NOT simply join a different group. They took steps to block a system that worked on theirs so that they could gain at the expense of their customers. Sure, it's a business decision on their part, but it's a very poor one. They're placing an interest in transaction processing at odds with where they make their money. That's just dumb.

Adults can misbehave too, but unlike toddlers, they have to face the consequences when they do. If people want to boycott them for any reason, who are you to say they can't?

Your inner monologue told you I said someone couldn't or shouldn't boycott didn't it? You were lied to by your inner monologue. It's misbehaving and should be punished accordingly. ;):p:p:D:D

Please re-read my comment. Nowhere in it did I say someone can't or shouldn't boycott. My Sweet Jeebus implies I think it is a major overreaction to a minor problem, but it's not a prohibition of boycotting.

Good for Rite Aid. Apple won't be happy until they can grift off of every transaction everywhere.

Rite Aid is backing MCX, which will allow them to avoid CC fees while still capturing customer data. Good for Rite Aid!

Man Apple is messing up once again. Reminds me of Microsoft in their prime. yay yah I know it's the pay providers not Apple

Save yourself the quotes. My point was that these inconsistencies should have been handled ahead of time. I have no confidence in Apple Pay right now. As I said before I tried to use is 3 times and it worked 1 time. My credit card has never let me down and until it gets to that point it's just easier for me to pull my card out.

And for the record I bought the iPhone 6 strictly for Apple Pay...

You do how how to read, correct?

It's going to be a requirement for them to do so next year from what I hear. Arizona is one of the few states that already has this in place if I am not mistaken.

After October 2015 if a retailer does not have a POS terminal in place and only offers the swipe feature, they can be held liable for fraudulent charges.

Drop what they're doing? You make it sound like there's all this important work going on everywhere yet here you are, wasting time in an on-line forum, trying to be everyone's moral compass on what issues they should really be worried about. It's hilarious!

MCX requiring their merchants to disable contactless is petty and anti-competitive. Look at Target. Same thing. They have NFC readers in every store but because of MCX they're disabled.

You're absolutely right. There's nothing more important going on in the world right now than Rite-Aid not accepting Apple Pay.

Yeah, everyone's going to have to support the chip part, but they don't have to support PIN. I can actually see a lot of smaller businesses still keep the credit card machine behind the counter and reject anything that's not credit card looking or has a PIN. In fact, I've had my one card with a PIN rejected once already because of that. That sort of thing needs to be fixed first for Apple Pay to have a shot.

I would let the retailers that are refusing to support Apple Pay know that you are not happy with the decision. I've sent comments to both Rite Aid and Wal-Mart, and even if they don't reconsider they will know that consumers aren't pleased with their decision.

This is one of the most reasonable solutions I've seen yet in this thread.

Instead of staging Twitter boycotts or harassing checkers, write to the corporate offices and let them know exactly how you feel about what they're doing.

You're absolutely right. There's nothing more important going on in the world right now than Rite-Aid not accepting Apple Pay.

Now did I say that? Did I say or even insinuate that this is the most important thing going on in the world right now? Yet you just don't see it, how hypocritical some of your comments are because, of all the time and energy you could be devoting to "good" in the world right now, you've wasted quite a bit of it on this topic.

I don't consider educating people on how morally wrong it is to harass checkers who make minimum wage, because the stores they work for won't let you pay for your items using your iPhone, to be a waste of time.

Apple? Did you even read the story?

Not my customer data. If Rite Aid boycotts Apple Pay I will boycott Rite Aid. Good for their competitors!

I will not trust or use CurrentC. The only secure option is to store the secure hashed information on the device. CurrentC will be a platform for data mining.

It's voluntary. No one is forced to sign up or join. This applies to MCX/CurrentC group and Apple Pay. If part of the agreement for CurrentC is exclusivity, then the businesses can either accept it or not. Nothing illegal about it.
