SERIOUSLY, you're foaming at the mouth because you can't use Apple Pay at Rite Aid ... that's it.

How old are you?

Not at all. I'm foaming because a company is openly behaving in an anti-competitive fashion, and just like Comcast/NBC (another recent big example) the government is just letting it all happen.

I miss the 80s, when AT&T was broken up for exactly the same reason Comcast/NBC needs to be broken up now.

Yeah, I'm not concerned with complexities when it DID work and now they changed their mind all of a sudden. It's just not an issue of complexity in this discussion. I picked up my Rx and paid in like 5 seconds at RiteAid two days ago.

Exactly, my explanation was on the side that many people comment (and still commenting) that this is some how Apple's "fault". This is all on Rite Aid and their POS system/provider/decision.

It's a be-nine terminal...

Personally, i don't even think Apple should of gave that "other direction"

Either you are in, or out.... There should be no middle ground...

How simple do u wanna get here ?

Personally, i blame Apple here for not implementing this probably.... Give the merchant too much choice.

I went to rite aid at 5:46pm eastern today. I tried and it initially appeared to have gone through but then a message came up on screen of cashier that he read to me. " I'm sorry but Rite Aid is not accepting apple pay at this time."

I had the same experience. I had to redeem my RiteAid UpRewards before they expired so I stopped in after work (around 6:30PM). As no one was in the store except staff, I asked the cashier (I know her a little from going there a lot) if I could do an experiment. She's an Apple person because when I came in with my 6+ a couple weekends ago she wanted to see it. She didn't know what I meant about Apple Pay though. She hadn't heard of it.

So I tried and it appeared to go through but then the " !No hable! Apple Pay" message came up so I swiped my credit card. I explained before I tried it that I did NOT expect it to work. I told her it was in the news that Rite Aid stopped accepting it today. She was excited about how you could pay w/o swiping your card. Other cashiers I told about were not excited but not against either. This cashier was the youngest of any of them. Not sure that's relevant. I'm not so young and I want it. No getting credit cards out of wallet and remembering to put it back/get it back from cashier = happiness.

One time years ago at Target ,with the consoles that eat your card and eject it when done, I was distracted and didn't get it back. What a hassle. Nobody turned it in (or used it, which was good) but I had to get a new card obviously.

Easy, no shopping at Rite Aid.

No big deal, see ya Rite Aid.

Exactly. I'm an old guy. About 15 years ago Rite Aid made some bone-headed decision to stop carrying Coca-cola and go exclusive with Pepsi. Since I drink Coke, I just stopped going to Rite-Aid for everything. A few years ago I noticed it wasn't the case anymore. I have no idea how long they stopped that exclusive thing, because I just, by habit, stopped going there. There's too many other choices out there. They are idiots to chase away customers.

Load up a cart at the offending (non-ApplePay) merchant and go to checkout.

When they say,

"Oh, we don't support ApplePay."

You say,

"Cancel the sale. I'll shop somewhere else."

If everyone does this, merchants will quickly get the picture and throng to get on-board.

I have other things to do with my life, which doesn't revolve around Apple or any corporations for that matter (well, my employer, I guess... :p).

Well, apparently they are just blocking one form of NFC. I will try Google Wallet next. This is what shows on the sales clerk screen when you try to make an Apple Pay purchase. It is specifically linked to Apple Pay.

This really shows how quickly Apple Pay is succeeding.

Rite Aid appears to have an agreement in-place with MCX which disallows them from accepting other forms of electronic payments. However they've had NFC terminals in-store working since before they inked that deal and not felt the need to disable them. Probably very low volume, just went right under the radar.

A few days after Apple Pay launches there's enough buzz about it and enough transactions going through their NFC readers they have to turn the NFC off to remain in compliance with their MCX contract.

Man Apple is messing up once again. Reminds me of Microsoft in their prime. yay yah I know it's the pay providers not Apple

Save yourself the quotes.

Nope, because you sound really dumb blaming Apple for the retailer turning down Apple pay transactions.

Glad to see businesses start seeing through Apple's shenanigans, like sending your STD history along with your finger prints right to Apple's headquarters - thanks, but no thanks.

It probably only took them a couple Apple Pay purchases to notice. I wouldn't necessarily consider this proof that Apple Pay is succeeding. They have checks in place for this kind of thing and can tell what kind of transactions are taking place.

It's proof of fear. Why ban Apple Pay if you aren't worried about it? MCX currentC is running scared is what this tells me.

Yes, I know. But they just updated their iOS app with this note:
"Apple Pay You can use your iPhone 6 to pay in an easy, secure, and private way in the app with a single touch."

That's for the app not in store which they have disabled

Seems like there is a line in the sand about this MCX. I like the analogy about not going to Rite Aid b/c of not carrying Coca Cola products. If a merchant takes ApplePay, I am probably more likely to go there.

Rite Aid made my purchases easier

Rite Aid made my purchases easier . . . EASIER for me to shop @ WALGREENS so FU Rite Aid. This ranks up their with ISIS or SoftCard or whatever its called now from Verizon, T-Mo and AT&T while they blocked Google Wallet. I only signed up for ISIS to get the FREE $50 then canceled the service, SUCKERS.

Apple Pay is my NFC payment of choice.

All I can say is **** the system. What we purchase and how should be freedom. Otherwise it's oligarchical fascism disguised as free market capitalism in a toy democracy. Shove your special customer membership cards and constrained and manipulative access to news and entertainment, and bandwidth itself, shove it up your ass corporate pigs. I'm done with this ******** and we all need to go on strike. Who's with me?

Most ironic statement on an Apple forum?

Yes it does at businesses that support it. This is not a Apple Pay hit this is a Rite Aid hit. A hit that hits both Google Wallet and Apple Pay.

And probably contactless cards. Has anyone tried one? There's no Rite-Aid in my state, so I can't test it.

I continue to be amazed and amused at the RAGE of people because they can't use their 6 at a single store, Rite Aid ... geez people, get over yourselves and your self-centred sense of entitlement.

When you want my money I can have a sense of entitlement about who I want to give my hard earned dollars to. Sorry. Supporting people who want to give you their money seems like a low bar. Id argue that rite aid feels entitled. They cant force me to use a form of payment I dont want to. If they dont want my money Im happy to shop with merchants who do. No one wouldve been mad if it wasnt allowed in the first place but Rite Aid went out of its way to block applepay and google wallet. No thanks. Take your own advice and stop telling others how they should spend their money.

Today, in-store Apple Pay works only with the "small" number of 6 and 6+ devices in the wild. The number of those will increase tremendously over the coming months. Next year when Apple Watch hits, even more consumers will be able to use Apple Pay - even those who have iPhone 5/5c/5s.

Momentum will be moving away from retailers who don't wish to support NFC.
