I don't consider educating people on how morally wrong it is to harass checkers who make minimum wage, because the stores they work for won't let you pay for your items using your iPhone, to be a waste of time.

Not one bit.

Are you referring to me on that one? Because I never said I would do that. Better be careful what you accuse someone of. But we're all glad you're here, to be our own Jiminy Cricket and tell us what it's important and what's not. And what we should spend our time doing.

Which brings up the next question...

WHY THE HELL IS THIS PRACTICE LEGAL???!!!??!?!?!!oneone

Seriously, this is about as anticompetitive as you can get. The government should be all over these creeps. But no, we have the wimpiest government ever today when it comes to anti-trust issues. :p

Grrr.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but my guess is that while you are screaming that this is 'anti-competitive,' you see no issue with the app store... Am I right?

It's amazing to see the sheep waiving the restraint of trade flag and being anti-competive. I love their hardware, but don't be blind. Apple is one of the most anticompetitive companies on the planet!

Good for Rite Aid. Apple won't be happy until they can grift off of every transaction everywhere.

Apple takes a minuscule percentage for lessening the risk of fraud (and loss of payment) for those transactions.

It's a win-win situation.

Rite Aid is being stupid.

Oh, boo hoo about Apple Pay being denied. I can't imagine the amount of tolerance it takes to stand before those waving phones around and trying more than once for their fingerprint to properly scan. Credit cards are immediate, as is cash. And the lines, especially in the city, get long.

Try waiting behind people trying to get that magnetic strip to swipe. Then having to type in their pin number or sign a reciept.

I left Rite Aid a couple years ago, in favor of a small locally owned pharmacy. I've been very happy with that choice. Walgreens and CVS are too far from me. It'll be a while before the small Mom n Pop stores do Pay.

Exactly. Get a bunch of friends with iPhone 6's and line up with full shopping cars. Let the cashier scan all the items and when they say they don't accept Apple Pay, tell them you're going to Walgreens and walk away. That'll make an impact when all your friends waiting in line do the same thing.

This is a really childish idea. I am sure Apple would want to distance itself far, far away from this type of behavior. Stay classy.

It may be but there is a certain logic to it. Make the employees want ApplePay in addition to the customers who have to wait behind these people.

There is a certain reasonable logic to the comment below. The comment above is a great example of puerility. It not only reflects badly on the perpetrator but the cause they're championing as well.

I would let the retailers that are refusing to support Apple Pay know that you are not happy with the decision. I've sent comments to both Rite Aid and Wal-Mart, and even if they don't reconsider they will know that consumers aren't pleased with their decision.

Someone has adult sensibilities.

If I had to deal with tantrums from petulant self-righteous adult toddlers treating me like **** because their expensive toys didn't work at my cash register?

If I made $15/hour to deal with that -- hell, if I made $150/hour -- I would consider myself underpaid.

This seems relevant. (SFW)

I gotta correct people. You guys seem to think that cashiers get 15 an hour... HA!!!

I'd dream of getting that kind of wage. That might actually be a livable wage.

Try min wage and if you are getting more you're lucky or been there a long time.

Oh, I don't know. Android has done pretty well. ;)
how do you figure. Android is just a OS and The manufacturers are a slave to that OS operating at razor thin margins. Google threw them all into a Pit and it's every man for himself.

Why can't these people just support all sorts of payment and make everyone's life easier? -.-"

Just went to rite aid didn't work

I just made a purchase at Rite Aid less than an hour ago. The cashier had to hit a button but it worked.

I went to rite aid at 5:46pm eastern today. I tried and it initially appeared to have gone through but then a message came up on screen of cashier that he read to me. " I'm sorry but Rite Aid is not accepting apple pay at this time."

Not my customer data. If Rite Aid boycotts Apple Pay I will boycott Rite Aid. Good for their competitors!

I was trying to point out to the original "Good for Rite Aid" poster that Rite Aid has a financial interest in promoting MCX. And shunning ApplePay is Rite Aid backing their own horse.

I'd expect all MCX merchants to line up the same way, I'm surprised Target is actually supporting ApplePay.

Target isn't supporting Apple Pay on their terminals. They have contactless disabled on their terminals.

Right Aid is like the coyote of the roadrunner cartoons, holding up an umbrella while a bunch of anvils rain down.

And retail companies wonder why consumers have flocked to the web and why they are becoming more and more irrelevant

Yes, I know. But they just updated their iOS app with this note:
"Apple Pay You can use your iPhone 6 to pay in an easy, secure, and private way in the app with a single touch."

Apple isn't asking people to "report" stores not accepting it.

"If you're having trouble using Apple Pay at a store displaying one of these symbols, let us know."

See the nuance ?

Yes Apple nuanced it....but letting them know is reporting it. And why would they want us to "let them know?" Presumably so they can do something about it. I would bet there is something in the T&C's of using either symbol (even the generic NFC one) that prohibits rejecting ApplePay or any other NFC compliant vendor.

Grrr.

No words for how misinformed you are on the law.

Stop throwing around big words.

SERIOUSLY, you're foaming at the mouth because you can't use Apple Pay at Rite Aid ... that's it.

How old are you?
