Apple should have left this another year or so before release. They needed to be able to have robust relationships with banks and be able to offer it internationally for day 1. It's not good enough releasing something in one country, having it be sketchy for a year and then probably delay it further.

I'm pretty sure iTunes Radio is still only available in the US, that was released 2 years ago.

What the hell is merchant customer exchange? That's fine, I'll just get my drugs from Target instead.

Wow, this thread is a perfect microcosm of the Internet -- uninformed opinions given by dolts who can't even be bothered to read the article they're offering their uninformed opinions on.

MercentC is not secure. They store your information in their cloud and it is geared toward advertising.

"A more secure way to pay. CurrentC will provide a more secure payment experience than traditional methods by storing users’ sensitive financial information in its cloud vault rather than locally on the mobile device. Furthermore, the application uses a token placeholder to facilitate transactions instead of constantly passing the data between the user, merchant and financial institution. These innovative approaches to security are only a sample of industry- leading tools used by CurrentC to create a comprehensive, layered approach to information security."

No big deal for me as far as Rite Aid is concerned. There are not that many in my area because CVS and Walgreen's are the dominant drug stores.

Please, everyone get over yourselves for saying, "Guess I won't be shopping there..."

If it's around the corner and you need to pick something up, you sure as hell will be shopping there in a few weeks.

By law it is illegal to turn down US currency at any US business. I think the US ought to pass a new law stating that if the business has an NFC terminal that they must accept all forms of NFC payment (Google Wallet, Apple Pay, etc.).

This is incorrect on so many different levels.

Federal law simply governs what is currency, not what currency businesses must accept. They are under no obligation to accept $100, $50, or even $1 bills if they don't want to. After all, you don't see people paying for cars with bearer bonds.

"How quickly the world owes us something that didn't exist 5 minutes ago. Can Ya give it a second!" - Louis CK
The world doesn't owe me Apple Pay, but I do have a choice. If Walgreens accepts it and Rite-Aid doesn't, that's an incentive for me to shop Walgreens.

I used my Amex card at Kroger in Dallas the night before last. They didn't seem to have device to accept Apple Pay or any NFC payments. Later that night I noticed a charge pop up for $1 from FedEx Office somewhere in Louisiana. Since I have that as my iTunes default card and on my Apple Pay, the charge showed up as an alert on my phone. It hadn't posted yet, so I flagged it to alert me when it did. A few minutes later, I get a call from Amex, which had denied a charge for $53 at a Shell station in LA.

It's annoying that I have to get a new card, but Amex fraud detection didn't allow either of the charges to go through, so whoever stole my account didn't get anything from it.

I'm even more a fan of Apple Pay (and Google Wallet) than I was before. I look forward to the eventual day when no one sees my credit card account number besides me and the bank.

I sent the following message via twitter:

@riteaid Are you accepting ApplePay or not? Simple questions should get simple answers!

I've read and been told that a terminal doesn't need to have an Apple Pay sticker on it for Apple Pay to work. It just needs to have the contactless payments icon (below) to work. So...is that not actually the case?

This is a special case where the merchant can accept contactless payment but now they've just chosen not to.

Way to piss off your customer base, Rite Aid.

It's not like there isn't already a Walgreens on every corner, ready and willing to take your business...

This is probably not an original thought and has been said elsewhere on this forum already.

But it seems to be that part of the problem with this rollout, is the short amount of time between announcement and deployment. Apple usually gives advance notice on big framework changes, for example giving developers a few months lead on new version of OS's so they can start creating apps in time for launch. Because of their need for secrecy with the launch of phones, the addition of NFC antennas on the iPhone 6's and therefore by extension Apple Pay was kept under wraps.

I just wonder if Apple had given a three to four month lead between announcement and deployment if some of this bugs would be worked out. Big Companies tend to move pretty slowly, so it's no surprise to me that Rite Aid didn't realise what was going on until people were actually using Apple Pay in their stores before they turned it off.

Man Apple is messing up once again. Reminds me of Microsoft in their prime. yay yah I know it's the pay providers not Apple

Save yourself the quotes. My point was that these inconsistencies should have been handled ahead of time. I have no confidence in Apple Pay right now. As I said before I tried to use is 3 times and it worked 1 time. My credit card has never let me down and until it gets to that point it's just easier for my to pull me card out.

Are you serious? How is this Apple's fault because RiteAID turned off the feature? Apple Pay is new and there will be some hiccups but to have no "confidence"? Really dude? Please go back to using your checkbook.

It *was* the case, and it did work. Until retailers coded in specific blocks.

Take it up with ****** retailers who want to track your credit account number.

The issue I don't believe is if it works but rather the deal they have to make with Apple because Apple wants 0.15% of every transaction that is done through Apple Pay and not every retailer is going to be on board with that.

That comes out of VISA's cut. Not the retailers'.

I used :apple:Pay in a Rite Aid last night, they made me sign the receipt afterwards. Now this? I'll stick with CVS.

I don't understand wtf the MCX is really about. Ok, they hate NFC, but what alternative are they offering? And if Rite Aid was real about their MCX membership, they wouldn't accept any NFC payment at all (like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy).

Don't speak for everyone. In my area there are 3 instances inside 8 miles on the same stretch of road where there is a rite aid DIRECTLY across the street from a CVS. We have plenty of options even if we just "need to pick something up."

All I can say is **** the system. What we purchase and how should be freedom. Otherwise it's oligarchical fascism disguised as free market capitalism in a toy democracy. Shove your special customer membership cards and constrained and manipulative access to news and entertainment, and bandwidth itself, shove it up your ass corporate pigs. I'm done with this ******** and we all need to go on strike. Who's with me?

Talk of Rite-aid boycotts over Apple Pay? Really? It's a freakin' convenience store. I doubt any habits will be changed.

I used it about an hour ago at a Rite Aid down the road from my office, no issues at all. Didn't have to sign, paid and left.

This "pick your platform" business is starting to get out of hand. I hope one day I don't have to choose a car based on what phone I use...
