On front sie we saw 8 chips in orange:

On back side there is space but the footprint is not present on the board.

But for macbook pro 15 the footprint for DDR is on the backside of the motherboard.

Well this is annoying - if you order a new 13" Macbook Pro with 16GB of RAM the shipping time is 1-2 weeks. Yet my Order History still shows the one I already ordered (configured the EXACT same way) not coming for another 3-4 weeks...

Hoping they just aren't updating anything. I called in and the rep was confused and suggested I cancel my order and post another one (which just doesn't make any sense).

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Apple should just ship it to you quicker.

Holding off ordering mine until it goes back to normal.

That might be a good idea. But as soon as I saw it go down to 1-2 weeks, I was so excited and put in my order.

Ordered mine last week and it's still sitting at 3-4 weeks for expected delivery. Maybe they're just keeping those the same to be on the safe side?

For what it's worth I called the good folks at Apple and asked about my order, which still shows 3-4 weeks, and why a new order shows shipping in 1-2 weeks. She spoke to her supervisor, and they assured me that my order would still ship first, and that these dates were generous because of the holiday period. She was kind enough to add expedited shipping to my order. Just something to keep in mind before canceling and reordering. She also said I might see an email update before the online status updates. I keep checking online, but maybe there is a lag on the external systems.

I ordered this morning, 13 inch/2.6/512/16GB and the expected delivery is 12/6-12/13. I was originally going to just get 8 GB when the shipping was 3-4 weeks (need it by xmas) but when it dropped to 1-2 weeks I bit on 16 GB. Hopefully they meet the expected time frame. I don't have much experience with Apple so I don't know if these estimates are usually accurate.

By the way, I ordered it through the edu store for 1879, vs 1999 on the regular store. There wasn't any verification process. What's the deal with that? Why would anyone order via the regular store?

A lot of people don't know about the education store. But yeah, I always order through there. No point in ordering through the regular store when I can save money with no verification required.

I too ordered when it dropped down to 1-2 weeks. But I wasn't going to sacrifice getting a lesser machine in order to get it more quickly.

I never cancelled my order - just hoping that 3-4 weeks will change since I ordered it a week ago.

If anyone gets any shipping updates and has that original 3-4 weeks estimate still sitting let me know.

Hello guys,

I am just getting crazy ! I was waiting for my 13" 16GB MBP already for 18 days until it was finally shipped. It should be here in Germany last friday already - but the UPS Tracking shows an "Exception" !
Last scan was in Almaty, Kazakhstan  - and shipping progress not move anymore. Maybe some cameleers already play with it in the desert  .
Must call UPS tomorrow and ask what happened - hope I dont have to wait again cause the package got lost .... !

Got your machine already?

Just wait if the 13" is what your heart desires.

It is but I keep reading posts from 13" owners saying they have IR and there is only LG manufacturing screens for the 13". Since I know that the 15" inch have screens from Samsung without IR I'm considering getting one instead ... The base model should not be more expensive than the 13" i have ordered with the educ discount ...

It seems like the 15" has way more screen problems than the 13".

Because Samsung screens tends to be yellow tinted while the LG have a better uniformity. Problem is LG do have IR even if you can't see it right out of the box and I do not want to be screwed in 2 months for a machine I bought nearly 2000€ ...

Well then I don't know what to tell you. I ordered the configuration I wanted and am leaving it at that. You're always going to take a chance of getting a non-perfect screen. If you go for a 15", you have just as much of a chance of being unhappy with the screen.

You folks in the EU get better warranty policy than us in the USA, so you should be covered anyway if IR occurs down the road. In my case, I bought Applecare so I'm covered for 3 years.

I took the Apple Care too. The problem is if all the screens have IR it is useless to ask Apple for a change ... They'll only be able to replace it with another defective screen and in 3 years once the warranty will be over I'll be screwed :/

Yeah, I went ahead with AppleCare as well even though it's probably going to be a waste of money for me. But I'd rather pay the money for it than always be worrying about it. At least I know it's there. Besides, it's only $183 with the education discount for the 13".

And the fact that AppleCare for Macs has worldwide support is really good.

Applecare would help in other things other than IR, so in such an expensive equipment made sense IMHO to be covered for 2 extra years. Here in Puerto Rico Apple is not allowed to sell the Applecare along with a new machines. Anyway I ended buying my new machine in Ebay and it came without Applecare, but through BH Photo bought it for $179.99 (auto enrolled in less than 2 hours), so ended getting a similar deal as with the Apple educational discount. :)
