When did you buy the rMBP? I'm hoping the stores are still stocking ones with Samsung screens when I return my LG one today.

I purchased it online and picked it up same day this past Sunday, Nov 25th. Just check it in store if you can once you open the new one.

I was debating going for the 16GB RAM BTO, but didn't want to wait so jumped on base model. Now don't want to wait longer if I do a refund/exchange for one and also risk getting an LG hehe.

Week 48, Samsung screen I think (starts with LSN?), 15" 2.7/16/512 BTO ordered on 11/23/2012.

No dead pixels and it is flawless.

Just got my custom built 2.6/16/512 in today. Built week 48...LG screen. What a bummer.

Looks great right now though.

So now the question...just return it and play the lottery again or wait for IR to develop and have them replace it with a Samsung.

It does seem like most people these days are getting replacements with Samsung screens. It does seem like that might be the best bet is to wait it out and get a replacement if/when I need it.

Maybe but I don't think the technicians will know what brand screen it will be until after it is installed. So it is still essentially a lottery because they use both LG and Samsung for replacements.

I had a 2.7/16/512 and ended up selling it thanks to the LG screen and Apple's refusal to replace the screen after pointing out the issues.

It's not that the technicians would or would not know what screen it is, but it seems (at least anecdotally) that when people get replacements in recent weeks they are replaced with Samsung screens. Almost like Apple is not allowing LG screens to be ordered for these replacements because they know of the problem.

Yup, my replacement screen for a week 44 LG with yellow tint on one side was a Samsung. There's only 1 replacement screen according to the Genius who did the repairs and it's for the LSN panels. I know because I had the replacement replaced after finding 2 clusters of dead pixels and a white spot which the Samsungs were know for. The 2nd replacement was perfect!

Just received my 2.6/16/512 in the mail. Samsung screen.

Damn. Still luck of the draw then. Got mine with the same configuration on the same day with an LG. So frustrated by this. Almost just want to return the damn thing.

Went to Apple Store today with my LG. Showed them pictures of retention on the grey wallpaper - it was clearly visible but rather not in normal use.

Anyway, they took it for repair, it should take 2-3 days. I asked them specifically for Samsung screen, but the guy said that they can't choose, whatever apple sends in part, that's it. Not happy with the answer.

Let's hope it will be Samsung next time. Just to calm my nerves that I spend 2300 GBP for the machine and it comes with faulty LG screen.

Will post an update next week (I'm away for a week). Fingers crossed.

If the part number on the repair order is 661-7171, then you are getting a Samsung. I am 99.9% sure of that. Just google that number and you will see that is the confirmed part number for the LSN panel on Apple's discussion forum.

I got mine replaced twice and both were the same part number and both were Samsung panels. Keep us posted.

It is 661-7171 on my reciept but there are few different posts on forums that this could be either manufacturer. Anyway, will see what happens.

Just curious....

Say you order a custom built RMBP online through Apple.ca (2.7Ghz l 16GB l 768GB) and you go into the terminal and you find out it's a LG panel. How would one return the item? Lets say this is the first day opening the box.

Call Apple or go into the store? I know you can not ask for a Samsung Panel when you order online.

So which would be the best way to return the LG RMBP hassel free? What excuse can you give?
Can you say that you are looking for a Samsung panel and that is why you are returning the RMBP?
I know you have to try a few times until you do get a Samsung screen.

Thanks

I think you can do it through the store. I'm in this boat. Just got mine with an LG panel. Going to sit on it until the holiday return period is about to expire and see if IR develops. If so, easy decision. If not, I may return it outright and play the lottery again. Or just wait for IR and try to get screen replaced.

I got custom build as well and the first thing genius suggested me was acutally to return it.

But returning would take couple days, than shipping (from china) another week. It's pointless.

It's better to have it replaced in store than trying to play "returns game".

It would be all right with the base model but with custom builds it's more hassle.

That's actually good advice. I had my LG replaced in the store and got it back the same day. Then 2nd replacement panel took them only 45 minutes! But make sure they have a panel in stock if you don't live near an Apple Store. My local one had 2 and I got them both after the 1st Samsung had over 10+ dead pixels and a white spot. The 2nd replacement was flawless.

For those of you that have had Apple replace your screens, have you had to undergo some sort of test that is geared to prove the IR is "within spec" or are they pretty much realizing that any IR is bad and being nice about it?

It depends on whoever is serving you. In my case, they didn't care much and exchanged it immediately with seeing a little IR on the check board test. They even exchanged an eaten MBP charging cable to the girl who was sitting next to me (her dog ate her charging cable and it was "under warranty").

To be honest if I get the LG panel the first day opening the box. I would want to exchange the whole laptop right away I do not care about the wait time as long as I get the Samsung panel. I wouldn't want them just replacing the panel from LG to Samsung.

Hopefully with this BTO spec (2.7Ghz l 16GB l 768GB) I end up with a Samsung display. Just reading the forums ppl who order this ultimate spec seem to get the Samsung display over the LG display...

you bring up a good point that I didn't get answered on another forum. The holiday period return policy, is that just an extension of the regular NQA 14 days policy, or an extension of the 30 days to return unopened policy? I should be getting my 2nd MPBr to try out, first one was a very dim and IR plaqued LG panel. I'd like to be able to try it out longer than 14 days to get really comfortable that it isn't going to slip into IR after 14 days.
