Week 45, Samsung Screen. Great!!!!
I have a 15" rMBP base model bought in store.
When did you buy the rMBP? I'm hoping the stores are still stocking ones with Samsung screens when I return my LG one today.
It does seem like most people these days are getting replacements with Samsung screens. It does seem like that might be the best bet is to wait it out and get a replacement if/when I need it.
Maybe but I don't think the technicians will know what brand screen it will be until after it is installed. So it is still essentially a lottery because they use both LG and Samsung for replacements.
I had a 2.7/16/512 and ended up selling it thanks to the LG screen and Apple's refusal to replace the screen after pointing out the issues.
It's not that the technicians would or would not know what screen it is, but it seems (at least anecdotally) that when people get replacements in recent weeks they are replaced with Samsung screens. Almost like Apple is not allowing LG screens to be ordered for these replacements because they know of the problem.
Just received my 2.6/16/512 in the mail. Samsung screen.
Went to Apple Store today with my LG. Showed them pictures of retention on the grey wallpaper - it was clearly visible but rather not in normal use.
Anyway, they took it for repair, it should take 2-3 days. I asked them specifically for Samsung screen, but the guy said that they can't choose, whatever apple sends in part, that's it. Not happy with the answer.
Let's hope it will be Samsung next time. Just to calm my nerves that I spend 2300 GBP for the machine and it comes with faulty LG screen.
Will post an update next week (I'm away for a week). Fingers crossed.
Just curious....
Say you order a custom built RMBP online (2.7Ghz l 16GB l 768GB) and you go into the terminal and you find out it's a LG panel. How would one return the item? Call Apple or go into the store? I know you can not ask for a Samsung Panel when you order online.
So which would be the best way to return the LG RMBP hassel free? I know you have to try a few times until you do get a Samsung screen.
I got custom build as well and the first thing genius suggested me was acutally to return it.
But returning would take couple days, than shipping (from china) another week. It's pointless.
It's better to have it replaced in store than trying to play "returns game".
It would be all right with the base model but with custom builds it's more hassle.
It depends on whoever is serving you. In my case, they didn't care much and exchanged it immediately with seeing a little IR on the check board test. They even exchanged an eaten MBP charging cable to the girl who was sitting next to me (her dog ate her charging cable and it was "under warranty").For those of you that have had Apple replace your screens, have you had to undergo some sort of test that is geared to prove the IR is "within spec" or are they pretty much realizing that any IR is bad and being nice about it?
I think you can do it through the store. I'm in this boat. Just got mine with an LG panel. Going to sit on it until the holiday return period is about to expire and see if IR develops. If so, easy decision. If not, I may return it outright and play the lottery again. Or just wait for IR and try to get screen replaced.
