What does unlimited text msgs run you? I can totally see it being some absurd amount.

The problem with these plans is if you're a low minutes user but high data user you're essentially being forced to pay for the plan. That's utter rubbish.

If you go through retentions you can get some sweet deals. I have a sick plan, unlimited text is thrown in, it runs $10 but then they just credit my account $10.

My plan:
700 anytime minutes (billed by second, FIDO)
Unlimited local calls Fido to: fido/rogers/rogers home
Unlimited incoming calls
Free evenings and weekends starting at 5pm
1000 canadian long distance
everything all in with tax and SAF is $70

I don't have anything for Data, as I just use wifi on my iphone... not going to pay those bastards those ridiculous rates

So the cheapest plan (with freekin' Caller ID) is gonna be $60 + $15 Caller ID + $6.95 System Access Fee + $10.65 tax = $92.60 !!:eek:

Holly Crap!!!!

Terrible, worst plans I've ever seen.

AT&T better not even consider limited data. If they make this bad as its shaping up to be, I will be very content to continue on using my EDGE iPhone will unlimted data and no hassles/rip off fees.

ATT vs Rogers

If I were you guys I would be furious. AT&T gives us unlimited data as a standard and it looks like you guys are getting jipped out of minutes.

I know AT&T is evil, but wow.

Funny thing is everyone I hear in the US screams about the text messaging cost. Granted US plan is better overall IMHO than rogers.

Perfect plan would be

Unlimited Data
Unlimted TXT (just data anyway)
charge for outgoing calls only - 700 min

say for USD $90.95 +taxes

I know I shouldn't be speaking, since in the UK where I live the situation with O2 is just as miserable - but to suggest that 'unlimited incoming sms' is a feature of the price scheme sounds to me completely ridiculous

O2 just a miserable? - I think it's pretty decent - and certainly appears to the best of the iPhone plans I've seen so far.

Back on topic, that really sucks for the Canadians.

You've lost a customer and loyal fan

(emailed today to Steve, Apple Customer Relations, Rogers Media Relations and Rogers Customer Relations)

Steve (or Customer support),

I've been what many would call an "Apple Fanboy" for years. I truly love Apple products and have made it standard practice to tout your virtues wherever I go and I have been waiting for the iPhone to come to Canada for over a year now. Unfortunately, that all ends today.

Rogers Communications recently released their iPhone plans ahead of the July 11th launch and they are abysmal. No unlimited data and no plan flexibility whatsoever. As an Account Manager I travel all over Ontario and need Long Distance minutes as well as unlimited incoming calls in order to keep my monthly bill at a reasonable price. For a new device touted as "Business Friendly" and "Enterprise Ready" it sure doesn't seem that way. Following a great start it appears you have abandoned us (your customers) to the carriers. I am referring to your refusal to sell the original iPhone without unlimited data because what's the point of having an iPhone if you have to worry about data!? For a brief moment it appeared there was hope for regular users, a fleeting moment.

Rogers could have kept their subsidy as I would happily have paid $600 up front for my iPhone in return for a better voice/data plan.

It's a sad day for all your Canadian customers.

Sincerely,

xxxxxxxx

- $115/month. 800 minutes + unlimited evenings/weekends, 2 GB Data, 300 SMS sent, unlimited incoming SMS

Wow. I pay US$110 (the US dollar and the Canadian dollar are about the same now anyway) a month for 700 minutes for TWO LINES (although the other line is not an iPhone) with unlimited nights and weekends, plus rollover, plus mobile to mobile, plus unlimited data & unlimited text on AT&T.

Rogers needs to CHILL OUT.

Get real people !!!!

How many times you are connected to a wi-fi network, how many times you really need to get connected on 3G. Come on, get real... Unless you want to impress people by showing a youtube clip at the beach. The 75$+tx+activation+911 is pretty close from 100$ and I still need the early 6 pm night unlimited. I had the 25$ for 4MB last month, some improvment here.

Wow....

150 Minutes + Unlimited evenings and weekends runs you $30/ month as is.... So I would be paying $30 a month for 400 Mb.... seriously

AT&T offers UNLIMITED data for the extra $30

Guess I'll just use my regular old cell phone and a Touch

I hope the spectrum auction helps this...

Walled garden

Canada is Rogers personal walled garden and will remain so it seems, what's with the contract period? it was reported some were to be 3 years, is that still true?

In-freaking-credible

Wow. So I won't be buying an iPhone. That's insane. I already browse a tonne on my iPod Touch, and KNOW that I do close to, if not more than half a gigabyte a month. A YouTube video is how big? I can watch how many of those or download how many albums on it (as I often do) before I reach the $60/month plan limit?

This is very, very disappointing.

I'm over 30 so the text limits don't bug me, but you guys will blow through those data limits in about ... oh you're already over.

Don't watch youtube on your canadian phone (or use the app store) or your bill will be $$$$$

Unlimited is the *only* way to go for data, people will not use the features if they are paying on a meter. However, with Apple's new model, I guess they don't care they get paid either way.

I doubt very much the $60 includes taxes, or the system access and 911 fees, so let's do some math:

$60.00 - Price plan
$00.50 - 911 Access fee
$06.95 - System Access fee
$15.00 - Caller ID

$82.45 - Sub Total

$04.13 - GST (it's actually $4.1225, but we'll round up)
$06.60 - PST (it's actually $6.596, but we'll round up)

$10.73 - Total Taxes

$93.18 - Complete Monthly Total.

This of course excludes the price of the iPhone itself, and any associated fees if you want to cross-grade, presuming you can, from your existing plan if your a current subscriber. I know it'll cost me $400 ECF (Early Cancellation Fee) as I've got more than 20 months on my 3 year plan left, so ignoring any cross-grade offers, I'd probably be looking at...

$299.00 - 16GB iPhone 3G
$337.87 including taxes

$400 - ECF (not sure if taxes apply to that or not, we'll say not for the moment)

$737.87 - Final cost of new iPhone and ECF to get out of current contract.

Then we add on the $93 a month for the new plan. Rogers is going to make a killing here, and they know it!

I'd be interested to know what the charges for going over your data limit are, as people will think 300 is too low and go with a higher plan, thus making even more money for Rogers.

Also 2 iPhone Value Packs for Add ON

Rogers Wireless will also offer two voice value packs for popular
wireless features:

a $15 monthly value pack including Caller ID, Who
Called, Caller Ring Trax, 2,500 Sent Text Messages and 2,500 Call
Forwarding Minutes;

and a $20 monthly value pack including Caller ID, Who
Called, Caller Ring Trax, 10,000 Sent Text Messages and 6:00 p.m. Early
Evening Calling and 2,500 Call Forwarding Minutes.

The announced price plans and these value packs are far from "value"! I use to live in TO and seeing these plans/packs are soooo archaic! I feel for sorry for my fellow Canadians. :(

What? That is depressing, but now if I hear someone complaining about AT&T's rates, I can put them over here. There is no reason why the prices of those "plans" should be so high. Canadians, you guys need to get a new provider. I currently pay $104.change for like 600 mins, unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited text, unlimited data etc etc. Wow, Rogers. Wow.

The phone is going to sit on the shelves. I cannot understand how anyone would buy it with these plans? The lowest plan I would fear going over the data. I`m not paying over 100$ to have internet in my pocket. I have way better things to buy. This really ruined a good thing...

we're being ripped off big time by rogers. i am so not getting an iphone now. who's got that kind of money?

Congratulations Canada on getting your iPhone at long last, 3G no doubt!!!

Boy oh boy, I sure am sorry for my Canadian brethren out there. Dyammmm, talk about Rogers pissing in your eye and calling it rain . I never thought those kinds of prices even existed . $60 for 150 minutes? You'll burn that up on hold talking to Rogers about how sucky those rates are. At the very least you guys should of had unlimited data to make up for the total lack of minutes... quite an insult to customers out there, especially in this day and age... greedy bastards.

<End of rant>

Step in Right Direction

At the very least it's a step in the right direction. Compared to what an unlocked iphone would have cost last month on Rogers with 400MB of data, this is much cheaper.
