I'm 100% sure we'll do another one. I thought it'd be interesting to look at the ones that are out there now, even at this early stage.

I guess, at the very least, it will be nice to look back and see how right or wrong they were. Though to be honest I don't see anything that's too unexpected here. All of the designs shared in this collection are basically different ideas of the same concept: an iPhone 7 without bezels/TouchID built into the screen etc (basically all the rumors we know so far). It's fun to see what it could look like, but mockups do also tend to build a unrealistic view of the final design because you don't have to deal with things like batteries, heat, and cell reception among other things when you work inside a computer.

I also thought they looked more and more like SAMSUNG's.

Nothing beats the 4 design. Just my taste.

Rams (BRAUN) ftw.

I've never understood the fascination with mockups. It's easy to mock something up when you don't have to engineer the darn thing. And it seems whenever a mockup gets posted everyone goes crazy over it even when it's crap, like this:

I actually like that quite a bit!

Haha, but it's so far away and will look nothing like this. It's like getting your hopes up only to have Apple crush them in September.

Mockups are fun and all, but it's easier to create something in Photoshop than it is to bring that design to real life with power and performance that people expect from Apple.
I don't care. I don't have any particular hopes. I just like looking at the pretty pictures. I'm sick in bed with a bad cold. I can't even really enjoy reading books at the moment. I don't watch tv...so...

Here you go bud. Water, dust resistant. Never worry about fingerprints. Very bright UI and scratch/crack resistant. Will go all day and dropped calls are a thing of the past. Never worry about charging or having to worry if you have enough memory for updates.:p:D Power cable for mobility incl.;)

You're welcome.
Dagnabbit! Still no headphone jack!

No! It's never too early for mock ups! These are pretty.

Anyway it doesn't matter. I know I'm going to get one even if it looks like a potato. I derided the iPhone 7 and even got a Note 7 and stayed in Android phones a long while. I'm still using them, actually. But I am posting this on my iPhone 7 Plus. And loving it. And while it still reminds me of Bender the robot, it works much much better than I thought it would. My only complaints at this point is that it does not record video with stereo audio and I can't set a variable Do Not Disturb schedule like I can on my Android phone. I also miss the S Pen on my Note 7.

Nevertheless, I won't try and fool myself again. I am getting the iPhone Potato. Baaaa baaaa baaaaa. ISheeple I am. I just probably won't preorder and will get it after it's been out awhile. I seem to have better luck with iPhones after they've been out awhile.

Same here. I think a complete redesign is coming with a refreshed look, but it's about time after three generations of the same chassis. The Plus model, although more expensive, is completely worth it past the size with the dual camera, 1080 screen, bigger battery and Ram. But the 7 Plus is a great iPhone none the less.

These mocks all fail to address the hard truth, in that Apple would only create a new screen that maintained the same pixel ratio. So either the screen constrains as it increases in size, or the edges and home button area are separate non-app sections of the screen.

I'm really not sure how much more can be done to a rectangle of glass and metal. I loved the look of the iPhone 4/5 series.
I hope the new one will be elegant in some way but there's not left that can be done.

Not only do all of the mockups look bad but they're also missing the obvious; the TouchBar.
I'm calling it now. The next iPhone will have some variant of a TouchBar on the bottom.

There will be a virtual home button in the center, clicking on it will feel like the iPhone 7 currently does, the virtual home button will still have TouchID just like the MBP TouchBar does and then Apple will find something else to do with it, like maybe when viewing a video in Photos.app the timeline will now be on that bar instead of on screen, or maybe they'll mimic some android phones and move the back button onto the bar next to the home button.

This will achieve Ives vision of having the whole front being solid glass without even a cutout for the home button (like the cutout we have on the iPhone 7).

...and they'll all be hilariously over optimistic like every year. Cause what we'll get will be nowhere near as good.

Love mockups. Bring on more of them. At least someone has to have vision and something to shoot for!

These are all nice and sexy, even if implausible.

Now, if only Apple would borrow the app tray from Android and let us set up the home screen the way we want to, they'd be one step closer to winning me back.

iOS wish list:

Back button (or swipe or force-press mechanism that does the same)
"Close all" open apps
Split-screen multitasking
Filesystem access
Mouse support (iPad mainly)
USB-C/TB3 (not Lightning)

I dunno - I think 2011 with the iPhone 5 tear drop rumours takes the cake (when we ended up with the 4S).

Somehow I have a strange feeling the same thing is going to happen this year.

Yeah. I'm fully prepared to be underwhelmed. Apple hasn't shocked me (in a good way) in a long time. :-(

I have to say, that's an awesome concept iPhone. I like how it slants downward.

MacRumors is simply stoking the flames.
Show unrealistic mockups that will never see the light of day.
Perfect fodder for future iPhone 8 sucks threads.
