For those saying "nah it'll just be a 7S...", I understand and feel your apathy.

However, the 7 was the incremental model break. They had to tread water last year because hardware development hit several roadblocks. Hence the focus on camera upgrade and headphone jack removal.

And so the iPhone development was put in a holding pattern for a further 12 months.

However...

God knows there's not a visionary bone in Timmy's body, but there's literally no way Apple will allow their cash cow product to remain in the same form factor this coming cycle. NO WAY. Even the perception of "different" matters, They simply can't afford to risk industry scorn and consumer defection.

No, it'll be a different form factor alright. Almost certainly a combination of elements seen in these mock ups. But that's not to say it'll be "amazing" or "magical". Just as the 6 wasn't an improvement on the 4/5 form factor. With Apple these days, it's better just to hope for the best, but expect to be disappointed.

Please stop posting fanboy mock ups and product renders. This is not news or even rumors. Do you REALLY think Apple is going to look at some fanboy iPhone concept and think "Hey, lets do that next". All this is a very despite cry for attention from graphic artists hoping to be recognized by Apple and maybe hired by them, but only if Jony Ive's keels over and dies first.

Since we're using this thread to add to our wish lists... I would love a ruggedized version similar to the SE in shape with all same internals as the latest and greatest iPhone, but with improved GPS sensitivity. Full water proofing too.

Here is my prediction, and please prove me wrong.

We now have amazing renders and superb ideas, concepts and speculations about the new totally redesigned 10th Anniversary iPhone for late this year.

I predict that one by one, via secret leaks from Apple, so called "people who know" let out stories that kill, bit by bit any massive expectations there are now.

It's what Apple always does, every year, on the run up to the showing of a new product, any high expectations they see are out there, they leak just enough to kill them, to avoid disappointment on launch day.

I hope I'm wrong

NO WAY ! Are you implying that the new iPhone will be around 5 inches in size, with a big screen on front ? SUCH CRAZY NEWS ! ALL THE WORLD MUST HEAR !!

I was once one who advocated for big hardware changes. Now, not so much. What do I get? A Little this; a little that? The cost alone will be staggering. I used to think 2 years was long time in smart phone replacement. Now, I'm in the mode where I think 3-4 years is more reasonable, if not longer, along the lines with personal computers. Go to town Apple; I'm very happy today. But you won't get my money next year.

Ugh. As far as I can tell, every one of these show rounded corners on the displays - in other words, people think Apple will choose to CUT OFF the corners of every image, video, web page, etc. that we view. These mock-up makers consider everything they know about Apple... and then conclude that Apple's design choice will be to cut off the corners of the displays. All I can say is... keep trying.

a TouchBar on an iPhone..... makes better concept than Mac since u'r looking at the screen anyway, but an egde-to-edge would be more realistic.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the beginnings of this in ten years or less.
Absolutely, we're already getting pieces of augmented tech. Some high up from Apple, IIRC, said they're researching augmented rather than virtual reality.

Would be great if Apple did this. They'd finally be leading innovation again. And it's technically possible, the Mi Mix has a similar screen (though still with a top bezel) and ultrasonic fingerprint scanners for behind the screen are available already.

Finally an iPhone again that's worth its premium price.

These designs FAIL to realize thumb fatigue.

If Apple makes the front all touch sensitive it will leave out room to rest your thumb on the bottom or home button to HOLD on to your phone when using it.

Leaving this area touch sensitive will be a nightmare trying to grip your phones in your hand securely.

If Apple does this, they are doing so in hopes that more people drop their phones causing them to buy a replacement, so maybe that's good business?

I'm sure Apple will think of this. Usability is still a big thing for them. When they came out with the 6 Plus they even made that one-handed mode, whereas the Android manufacturers of big phones didn't bother.

The rationale for one-handed mode isn't clear cut. It is just as probable that Apple implemented this feature to refute claims of hypocrisy, given their previous stance on screen sizes. This advert didn't air too long ago.

To me, one-handed mode is a clunky workaround, because it adds more steps and slows down operations. You double tap the home button, wait for the drop down animation to complete, take some amount of time to see where things are subsequently displayed on the screen, tap on the screen item that you're after, and wait again for an animation to finish that pulls the screen back up to normal. I wonder how many iPhone owners actually use this mode vs buying a phone in the screen size that best complements the size of their hands.

I still think the new iPhone 8 will look like this:

1. Take the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge design, but with no more front Home button.
2. Make it a bit thinner with a glass back instead of a metal back. The glass will be made with the very latest variant of Corning's Gorilla Glass material.
3. Beneath the glass back you can have "back" colors of Jet Black, Jet White, Space Grey, Champagne Gold and Rose Gold.
4. It will keep the Lightning connector.

If they make an anniversay one and two old design ones I'll be mildly upset. Cuz that's just teasing to fork out more for the ultra nice one and it's greedy. I'd prefer they did 2 again with a brand new design and be done with it.
You must be new to the Apple world.
Tim Cook is the master of the up sell.
For years and years the low end iPhone had a ridiculous amt of storage as just one example. It is sad, I agree. But it is what it is.

Here you go bud. Water, dust resistant. Never worry about fingerprints. Very bright UI and scratch/crack resistant. Will go all day and dropped calls are a thing of the past. Never worry about charging or having to worry if you have enough memory for updates.:p:D Power cable for mobility incl.;)

You're welcome.
Not enough portability, easily.

Storage wasnt cook, it was jobs...who was the master so we've all been told here.

But I'm wondering what can be done about the sides of the phone. Could volume be a touch panel on the side? Slide up+down on a specific section where the buttons once were. Could a data cable be attached using that (it's name escapes me) 3-dot port that iPads have?

It would be cool if they used Force Touch and (improved, directional) haptic feedback to simulate a volume rocker. Just run your fingers along the area where the rocker used to be, and the Taptic Engine would give you the impression you've touched something. Exerting some pressure would register as a button click.

So are they skipping the 7s and going to 8 this year?

Apple isn't daring enough anymore to innovate like these mock ups
Are you saying they lack courage? Because iPhone 7 is chalked full of courage ! The cowardly lion couldn't handle the iphone7! And that's After he saw the wizard!

I see it more as capacitive touch. Force Touch would require some pressure sensitive sensor on an aluminum body, which would difficult to implement on harder Material, versus a laminate display, Where it's softer. Capacitive touch would require less effort and perhaps coud house more than one feature to change or alter the behavior of the sound/vibration.

Capacitive touch also requires some pressure, versus just a touch. Which hopefully wouldn't serve as an issue for inadvertently pushing any buttons or recognizing the differences.

Also, this is the same feature I would like to see
Implemented on the Airpods for volume control. Sliding your finger up and down the stem to control the volume, versus using your iPhone Or Siri.

Storage wasnt cook, it was jobs...who was the master so we've all been told here.
Cook took over in 2011
iPhone 5 through 6s entry level storage was 16. Was Jobs telling him what to do while Cook slept?
Since I just gave just one example which you didn't like, how about changing the Macs to soldiered in ram so buyers had to pay upfront for upgrades or forever be locked in with less. Pushing the upsell. Cook is king of the bean counters. Great for his previous role, not so great for his current one, at least from consumers' point of view.

What about iPhone 4 and 4s and iPad 2? Cook was following what jobs started. The iPhone 5 in 2012 was still jobs. But let's not let facts get in the way of a good tirade.

Who is the unidentified male who waits for Tim Cook to go to sleep, and then takes counsel from Steve Jobs?
