It's worth it.

Just spend the money, buy it, and you'll never complain about it.

The only people that ever complain about tech products are the people that don't spend money to buy the expensive version.
Well, back in 2010 I bought the entry-level 13" MBP and it's still going strong. I upgraded to an SSD and added 4gb of RAM, but it's 6yo and still going strong. I was OK with spending 2,200 USD on the 15" with larger SSD, but forget it, 2,720 it's too much

I'm not a user but felt compelled to leave a comment. First off the price is ridiculous… the "toolbar" imo a total gimmick and redundant to the trackpad … and the autocorrect showing on the toolbar is funny bc like most people i know type wo looking at the keyboard let alone stop typing just to press a stupid corrected word on a toolbar. Ugh just frightened by their forward look on technology… it's almost like they thought this was a good idea 3 years ago and said the hell with it we'll put it out there

Sounds to me like you live using your trackpad, the fact is with "Pro" users the Esc key is indeed "one of" the most used keys.

I have my mac closed 50+ hours a week hooked up to dual 4k monitors and wireless keyboard/key pad and mouse. Definitely a "pro" user as you put it.

If you only buy a Mac every 4 years, why is price even a concern?

A base 15" model costs $1.60 per day to own and use for 4 years. You have to be kidding. This place is infested with non-pros, wannabe-pros, and people like to play one on the internet.

I'm using a early 2013 MBA and it's effing time to go pro. Real talk though, whoever is complaining needs to keep it shut before they try it out at the store. Haters gonna hate.

In my opinion, what apple announced today pales in comparrison to what Microsoft announced. While Microsoft releases the Surface Studio, apple releases a touchbar. I love my apple products but truly feel that apple has lost its way. I believe Tim Cook has gone as far as he is going to go and it truly may be time for another vision to put apple back on track. The magic that was synonymous with apple releases seems to be gone. Or in the very least missing. Sometimes, or many times, one can be so succesful that they fail to see the forest for the trees.

You are incorrect. The chip is based on Bluetooth and compatible with bluetooth. They merely extended the Bluetooth standard.

Thanks, you're right. But it still doesn't help for the vast majority of current and future iPhone users who just use the included EarPods and will not purchase the AirPods

lol, touche ... in that situation the touch bar is moot for you. For people actually using the touch bar, their esc key would be used. I'm pretty sure that most Pros wouldn't be using their laptop as almost solely a desktop like you do.

WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE COMPARING THE SURFACE STUDIO TO A LAPTOP.

[sarcasm]What!? A 28-inch desktop replacement has more functionality than a laptop? CRAZY TALK.[/sarcasm]

You bringing that thing on the road with you? Buying an extra seat for it on the plane? There are legitimate complaints about this release but comparing it to the surface studio is idiocy at it's finest.

I am very surprised that only a few of the comments so far referred to the price of these older computers in disguise mode with new gadgets attached. The price jump on both the 13 and 15 inch "new" MacBook pros starts-only starts-at $500. That's a lot of money folks and guess what? Apple doesn't need it but you might.

FFS Emojis? is that really what the pro line up has come too??
Been a reader of Mac Rumours for years and years, I've have read through comments often but never had the inclination to comment. So flipping disappointed with this today, was looking at upgrading my 2013 Macbook pro in Jan...why remove Magsafe? I'm very used to paying the extortionate apple tax but why so little so ***** expensive, doesn't make any sense!
All this from someone who hasn't used it. Don't like the emoji function, don't use it. Just because they include emoji as one function of the touch bar doesn't mean it's the only thing it does. It got about 10 seconds of screen time while the pro demonstrations got like half an hour. The emoji criticism is completely invalid and extremely intellectually lazy.

The Biggest problem I see with the new toolbar is that these days people spend most of the time working on their browser using one web app or another. For me it's around 75% of the time. If websites /safari could somehow give site specific buttons on the new toolbar that could be pretty cool. Otherwise I don't see this being used very much.

Can I assume that the OLED touch bar will work under boot camp as a normal series of function keys? I'm worried about some strange driver conflict that leaves me without keys that are absolutely necessary to my dual boot system.

No 32GB RAM option? I'm disappointed with this to say the least, and the touch bar really didn't impress me. I'd rather have a touchscreen.

And the Dell XPS 15 has 32GB option AND a touchscreen, and still cheaper.

It's all about the specs isn't it? There are only a few instances where 32GB of ram is going to be a must, with a Mac, whereas Windows will eat up as much as you can throw at it. And you're suggesting a touchscreen is a benefit? So explain how you can efficiently work, typing on the keyboard and using the trackpad (or mouse), then shift to touch the screen?

Are your fingers 10" long? That's about how long they'd need to be to touch the top of the screen while keeping your hands on the keyboard / wrist rest. I'm guessing you don't have 10" long fingers, so you're then saying that lifting your arms and hands to touch the screen - not just touch, but interact with the screen is easy and efficient and something you could do for 8-10 hours a day?

If you're actually working...for a living, the whole touchscreen concept, for a desktop or laptop, makes no sense and is absolutely not something anyone could do day to day [and be efficient in their jobs]. Not with a laptop or any of the typical desktop screens. Microsoft's new drafting table style desktop does alleviate some of the human-to-screen touch interface issue, but brings up a slightly different issue of having to lean over the screen like you're drawing / writing on a drafting table.

There is a reason, lots of them, why Apple has not bothered with touchscreen laptops or desktops and hopefully they never will.

i don't think its a comparrison as in apples to apples as much as it is saying that the Studio and its inovation is more exciting than the touch bar.

About 1.5 years ago, the base 15" MBP was CAD $1999 here in Canada.

Then it went up to $2499 for the same machine due to the dollar.

Now it's $2999 for the base 15" MBP.

rip

And if you need the money, guess you shouldn't buy it. Apple does need the money or they go out of business. They're not obligated to set the prices where you think they should be. I can't afford it so I'm not buying it. Poor me.

I saw parts of the text stream thing, and when they showed off that OLED function panel I thought "hey, I'm jealous. I wish my MBP had that". But now I've seen what the device has to offer and it's the nope-est nope I've ever noped. Around £1000 more for the cheapest 15" than the previous cheapest 15", no magsafe, hell no USB or HDMI (I'm not buying adapters for a £2,700 computer. Support my needs, or include the adapter, or I walk). I think this is the first time I've ever not been envious of a new Mac product. I want to wrap my current MBP in cotton wool so I don't run the risk of breaking it and having to fork out for that.

(I just cant fathom them removing Magsafe. Actually beggars belief)

IT'S TECHNOLOGY THAT IS TWO HOURS OLD OF COURSE PEOPLE ARE STARING AT IT. Eventually, just like EVERYTHING ELSE people will get used to it and it will become second nature. You people have no foresight whatsoever, christ.

It's a screen with no tactile feedback. You will never NOT be looking at it...

I find it SO ironic they started with an accessibility video. The Touch Bar is the least accessible thing they could introduce.

This is a dismal upgrade, the Radeon Pro 455 PER AMD has the exact same memory bandwidth and teraflop rating as the last gen R9 M370x, only going from 1.3TFlop to 1.8TFlop with the optional Radeon Pro 460, also the Skylake i7-6920HQ 2.9Ghz (3.8 turbo) CPU option is barely faster in real world than the last gen i7-4980HQ 2.8 (4ghz turbo) and in fact slower in raw compute power.. The only thing they added that if they didn't they would be idiotic is TB3, no 32GB ram option, no Kaby Lake. Nvidia would have been a way better choice.

Just for clarification the mid 2015 with the highest CPU the i7-4980HQ scores an average Passmark CPU scores of 10001, the best CPU option in the 2016 MBP the i7-6920HQ scores 8712.

Anyone think the 2010 placing of "MacBook Pro" on the bazel to be unnecessary.

It like putting iPhone on all iPhones or iPad on all iPads.

I think all owners will know what they are using when they open the clamshell.
