iLife 05 Upgrade
Fortunately, for all (especially me) this is my last update on my upgrade saga. All of my performance and importing problems were solved by reducing the thumbnail size in iPhoto's main view to 5+ across. There has been some talk on other threads that larger thumbs actually have to be built from the main image and mine average 3-4 MB each. If that is true, that explains the performance hit of the overall library but doesn't really explain why View Film Roll mode was even worse. I guess it still builds the underlying thumb views.
Although it was fun re-installing iPhoto twice and rebuilding my library from a very solid backup at least that many times, I wish I had thought about something so very simple.
All that being said, I lost no data and my library of approximately 5000 photos appears to be clean.
ILife 05 is a wonderful product. However, if you have library problems in 04, you can expect bigger problems when upgrading. I am fairly new to the Mac and don't rely on a bunch of third party apps to do things the Apple suite left out and I have never messed with the iPhoto library except within the app itself. Hopefully, Apple will shed more light on some of the other upgrade issues.
Have a solid backup of your entire library!!!
Thanks again for listening and helping.
