“The future of the ‌iPad‌ remains largely murky, mainly due to Apple's decision to implement the ‌M1‌ chip”

It’s only murky to pundits on the outside who don’t know Apple’s plans, which are usually 3-5 years ahead of what they actually ship.

The decision to put M1 in iPad was not an accident. It’s there to support Apple’s intentions for the product line for years to come.
What makes it murky is everyone seems to think Apple put a Mac chip inside an iPad… they didn’t, they first put an iPad chip in the Mac renamed it as M1 then put that same chip in their new iPad Pro.

Apples decision to do this was no accident, it was to help combat the global chip shortage (using the same chip in several devices), encourage sales (great marketing), and reduce costs (higher mark up).

The M1 literally makes no difference to the future of the iPad, even the developer test kit for Apple silicon had an A12Z inside, an iPad chip.

Wasting time on landscape logos when what the iPad needs is significant improvement in the OS and general functionality…

I think it would be a mistake. Everyone assumes landscape is the default orientation, and placing the cam and logo in portrait shows the versatility of the iPad. Besides that, it would be hard to implement, with the pencil area in that same space.
Logo placement shows versatility?? Lol

I think this feature makes the most sense if you’re really using an iPad for work stuff. My iPad Pro is basically never in vertical mode, but if you’ve got a mini or basic iPad I see a lot more use in both modes.

Having both vertical and horizontal cameras would be nice, though not very cost effective.

99% of my 12.9-inch iPad use when browsing websites, reading emails, etc is in portrait orientation (which btw is how the screen keyboard hides less space)

only when watching a video i change to landscape. I even watch some quick videos in portrait.

also it’s easier to hold in portrait.

Apple is like... that 1970s guy, trying to be cool, past his prime a tad, and coming "fashionably late" to a party.
ie Annoying and aloof.

They should have done these changes about 4 years ago:

1) Made the file system for the iPad Pro reach out to external disks and drag and drop, etc., like the laptops
2) Enlarged the screen for artists on a special "pro" edition; 14-16" would be nice
3) Made it into an actual laptop killer and just simplified their line up. The complex product line ups kill enthusiasms in the long run. Jobs knew it and fought for simplicity in product parade. You can see how it helps In-n-Out Burger and Chik-Fil-A in the fast-food market. Cook's Apple likes a larger, confusing, catalog--a mistake. iPads should become the non-Macbook Pro laptops already.

While the camera and the logo placement will definitely make the iPad 200% faster making it the best iPad yet, I'd rather have some OS advancement.....

Logo placement change is seriously overdue..

I welcome this change. My iPad stays in landscape like 99% of the time when working (Lightroom, Affinity photo, Luma Fusion, Numbers) or consuming media (Twitch, YouTube, HBO Max).

The iPad is being held back by software, not hardware. It will never replace a laptop as long as it remains tied to the App Store and lacks basic things like floating windows and desktop class file manager. Apple should just copy Samsung Dex and get over with it.

Yesssss. I resisted the temptation to upgrade my 2018 iPad Pro to the 2021 iPad Pro And it looks like the next one will be a bigger difference both in design and probably performance. Not enough difference in the 2021 from my 2018 other than RAM benefits.

That all sounds good except wireless charging means the entire backside of the iPad Pro will be glass, making it even heavier and much less durable. I do not want a giant-ass 12.9" iPad Pro that is just a sheet of glass on both sides, waiting to shatter into a thousand pieces.

While they're at it, may as well push the bezels out to 13.3", and Apple needs to design a better keyboard base for it. Maybe a "Pro" dock? Basically I just want an iPad that can run macOS when docked and a Mac that can run iPadOS when undocked. Best of both worlds. The base should be matched aluminum and have a larger trackpad, backlit keyboard, and thunderbolt ports, including charging the device. Icing on the cake would be a built-in SD card slot, an extra battery, a thunderbolt GPU, and additional media storage SSD all baked into the bottom chassis, but I don't expect something that advanced for another five years at least. I would pay a lot for such a device, and I think a lot of other people would too.
