Would be funny if the notch still exists but it's digital instead of physical, then the only time it would go partially away is when playing videos.

I still can't comprehend why they are removing the notch from iPhones and introducing it to MacBooks.

This looks way better, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it’s how this new design is implemented. I commented a few months ago that they should just turn the pixels off in between the hole punch and short oval.

Long oval > notch > short oval + hole punch

A pill shape design would be ideal however my money is on the pole-punch design. Whichever one we are going to get. We are bound to receive more space around the screen. Hopefully, Apple will utilize the extra screen.

Very interesting that Apple can suddenly save so much horizontal space, just by using a punch hole and pill-shaped cut out.

What Apple needs to implement is an Under-Screen Display Camera. I wish Apple had invested the money and went with that route.
Face ID fails a lot in a sunny day.
Why not going to an under display Touch ID like everyone in the cellphone industry.
Face ID was great, now is an step back.
Sunshine will not cause interference with the lasers FaceID uses.

do you really think those bezels will be slimmer? That would mean both Pro models , keeping 6.1 and 6.7 same display size, would make the devices a little bit more compact, maybe close tot the 11 pro dimensions
I believe a slimmer bezel was one of the rumors out there. We'll see!

They could have also shifted the whole face-id assembly a little towards the top, and made it a notch with lesser height/depth. Would have been even less invasive, if that's what they were bothered about.

In another intriguing twist, the tipster also claims that Apple intends to visually expand the blacked-out areas around the cutouts to host content. For example, Apple could make the area slightly wider to fit status icons on the left and right sides, or even extend it downward into a large rounded square when delivering certain notifications.
I could see it expanding to the right of the camera to display the little “camera in use” privacy dot. Would look sick.

probably because the hardware component is too large and is hidden under the screen

I remember the days when we talked about life changing features. Now we have debates on the size and shape of the notch (or now these pill cut outs). Such sad times.
Agreed. It's been a long time since any earth shattering advancements like the first Mac OS, the iPod, or the iPhone came along and changed everything. Now we obsess about notches, bezels and folds.

I'm sure it does. That's why I said Apple should have invested the money in the under-display camera tech. Maybe one day! One thing for sure is Apple will take it's time to make it right.
I don't know tbh. Under-screen cameras will always be worse than their non-under-screen counterparts. They have to improve so much until the difference has no practical purpose before Apple uses them imo.
