Rumor: iPhone 14 Pro Display Cutouts Could Appear as a Single Wide Pill Shape When Turned On

Oh I hope they are doing this, why would anyone like that uneven, unsymmetrical look.

Though why they didn’t just make one bigger pill shape that covered all the elements I don’t know.

I'm afraid customization to that extent is not an Apple way.

Makes me wonder though how much usable screen real estate would be regained. Any tiny area above a pill is pretty useless… wouldn’t it make more sense to just make the notch smaller and smaller?

What Apple needs to implement is an Under-Screen Display Camera. I wish Apple had invested the money and went with that route.

Apple did invest in this, they even patented it, but perhaps the technology is not there yet.

I don't think so. The notch was a clear distinguishing factor of iPhone X and later, and Apple left it as is for marketing purposes. The hybrid pill-hole layout is unique and may remain as is for marketing purposes. The pill layout looks more similar - and arguably worse - to hole-punch designs on Android phones.

I wonder though, so now the notch macs are going to be outdated? Why put a notch on them (specially the MacBook Air) if they already were working on something that looks better?

Non-pro iPhone models (as well as older models) will still have a notch.

I still can't believe they're going for such disgusting solution. Neither of these two is practical, its more distracting than notch and it's an obvious waste of space (the gap with the top). I hoped for notch of this size, still do.

What makes you think they're not working on that? These things take time and I suspect it will happen when the tech is ready.

Just like they have been working with Samsung and OTI Luminotics for years on under-screen faceId. It too will come out when 1) ready and 2) can be manufactured to the tune of 75million units for new phone release.

Structural integrity maybe? It's a rather wide area and the glass above could be in danger of cracking.

Asymmetry doesn't bother me, and depending on how its done I sometimes prefer it to symmetry.

I'm sure it does. That's why I said Apple should have invested the money in the under-display camera tech. Maybe one day! One thing for sure is Apple will take it's time to make it right.

Tech is not there yet especially for the number of devices apple needs to implement it for (+ their quality standards).
