Let me be the first to ask formally: WTF IS GOING ON?
This would be a slap in the face to IBM if pixar goes to intel.. if Jobs is there pushing the power of intel.. i mean, WTF? We've all been dreaming about the power of 970... what happens if the g5 is a p5?

i wouldn't read TOO much into it. this isn't much more of a slap than using motorola's G4. IBM was with apple for the G3... i think this is about business. who knows, maybe if jobs looks like he is flirting with intel, it will get IBM to haul ass or something.

don't be a pessimist :).

Pixar has switched from Sun Microsystems servers running Unix, to Intel Xeon-based servers running Linux. The story is on C|Net.

I find it very funny that all these people on this thread were "certain" the picture was a fake and talked all about how it was photoshopped...

just goes to show how you can't really tell the difference anymore. And just how easy it is to hide secrets in a tech industry that is still in a state of change..

Well, looprumors has new pictures and a sound bite as well now...so it appears to be real. I just don't get why there is an apple logo at all. This has nothing to do with Apple but only with Pixar.

i dont think its about who uses what. i think this is about rendering those fish for finding nemo fast. if they have to use linux, why use something slower and less productive. we all know by now that intel is king now, there is no sense using something slower. if they were making "finding nemo" in imovie, they would have a bunch of xserves. this is pixar not apple, its not about selling computers, its about making movies, and you gotta have the best to make movies like theirs.

While I'm sure you're right.. its just business, tell me why the big to-do about Steve Jobs and Apple? Why not 'Steve Jobs of Pixar'? Why make this big of a deal out of two companies (pixar and apple) that have very little in common, expecially to hype pixar and intel?

If you were going to push 'Pixar moves to Intel', why would you put Apple logos everywhere?

Just seems odd to me.

i completly agree, that is odd about the apple logos. But i am guessing that most people know him more by apple, probably more than half those people didnt know he was the ceo of pixar. thats my guess but a very good question indeed.

Correct

You're right - the Apple logo for a primarily Pixar announcement. But the Pixar announcement was not the entire focus of the show. The primary focus was the meeting between Jobs and Grove. Simce Jobs is more prominently the CEO of Apple than Pixar, it makes sense to display the logo of the company that provokes more emotion.

It worked, too. He got a standing ocation from Intel.

and they are pretty good friends, since steve started the usb revolution, and intel owns usb. when apple came out with usb, the intel ceo personally thanked him, because no one else would use it.

If the picture is fake, it is a thorough one. The High-Res JPG contains EXIF information -- the image was taken with a CoolPix 990, aperture, ISO setting are all plausible.

There's also a second Apple Logo on the Monitor just below the person with the red hair standing on stage. Behind the Logo is the gray gradient that's usually used in Apple presentations.

I say it's not a fake.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

To you and everyone else who thought this was a fake (I didn't and posted that I didn't)

You were not alone Kid Red. I posted it was real before it was confirmed as real. (See Page 6 of this thread) What's really annoying, is all the people on a forum like this one - who always think every controversial photo online is "photoshopped." As if it's so easy to make a believable fake image? Again, if you know what you're looking at, it's very easy to tell the difference.

There does seem to be an extraordinary large number of photo experts on this website. I must say though that while it is fairly easy to determine if things have been altered (if you have any clue about how it's done) it can still be very hard to tell if someone smartly compresses the living **** out of it using jpeg. After that is done it becomes hard to tell what was done to it.

Hey Bandit,

I had to say, simply, Bandit. I'm old enough to remember 'that movie' - you know, with the Black Trans Am in it. LoL.

Well anyway, indeed, if an image is really compressed down quite a lot, regardless of the compression format, it can become so pixilated and unclear, you really would have no idea what's in the image in the first place. (especially if resized with no 'constrain on proportions' being used, thus instant & massive distortion) However, if the image is clear, and the image that fired off this post was good quality, it's then easy to see a Photoshop "add in" so to speak. (like adding in a fake logo and such) I also have some crazy software to get to the bottom of such things that's well beyond Photoshop. But you do need to have an eye for it and some experience as well. Otherwise you're clueless... It's amazing what can be caught when you blow something up a few thousand times it's original size. But I know what you're saying... lot's of photo experts here, huh? ;-)

it's funny how just a few years ago the evil company for mac cultists was the big, bad microsoft

mac office shut them up and so did apple putting ie on their machines

now intel seems to be the big bad wolf

who shall we band together and fight in another few years?

Office did not shut us up. At least most of us. Microsoft is still number 1. Personally I don't look at Intel as the enemy. It's not there fault that Motorola has fallen behind.

Intel is not the enemy. I have nothing against any hardware manufacturer. Just M$...

It's the OS that makes them mac enemy #1...I'd use intel, amd, (of course IBM) hardware if it'd run OSX....

Absolutely though I really like AMD. They have done good things for being the little guy, underdog.

Bump. Here is the pic they are taking about in 2003. looprumors.com is long gone but the pic is historically significant because Jobs did switch to Intel two years later.
