12" seems to be a perfect size and really makes the 11" and 13" expendable and no longer needed. I don't even need a laptop but damn..... Looks really nice.

I think this announcement will be all about the apple watch. Apple isn't going to dilute the launch of the watch and confuse the customer over which product to buy. It will be about the watch and about what the watch can do. Expect apple to showcase a cool third party app that will leave us with wanting that watch.

My opinion is keep your money in your pocket and see what the apple watch can do in 3 - 4 years. If it takes off this product like the iPhone will get a lot better.

Wishing they would decrease the bezel size. Can easily fit an extra inch of screen space while keeping the same size.

I think the market shopping for an Apple Watch and a MacBook are 2 different categories. Personally, my Apple gift card is ready for the watch and my credit card is ready for a 12 inch MacBook Air with Retina Display.

My body is ready!

Fanless means Core-M (available since november), and that means having waited extra months for a downgrade from the actual ones.
If it comes with i5-i7 I'll definitely take it, otherwise good luck with the Core-M to the early adopters, going forward to Skylake Pro's.

Dilute? Maybe between an iPad and a MBA... But the only thing Apple Watch and a MBA have in common is the apple logo. It's easy, if you want a computer then buy a computer, if you want a smartwatch then buy smartwatch. If you want both, save money or get priorities.

Excited about fanless and smaller bezels. New trackpad interesting. Very much looking forward to the MacBook Pros.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that this new trackpad will implement the Force Touch technology used in the Apple Watch in place of the current physical click.

To quote Apple.com:
"Force Touch uses tiny electrodes around the flexible Retina display to distinguish between a light tap and a deep press, and trigger instant access to a range of contextually specific controls — such as an action menu in Messages, or a mode that allows you to select different watch faces — whenever you want. It’s the most significant new sensing capability since Multi‑Touch."

I've been waiting for the rMBA since my old school black MacBook bonked on me a few years ago. They may take my money if it's announced. #

wonder what the price will be. Maybe interested as I found out to fix my screen on my old '11 MBA will costs over $400!!!

I think this is probably true....

The 11" has that initial "cool factor" where you realize it's so small, thin and light -- but the way Apple has sold the 11" Air to date, it's still "second class" from the perspective of offering as much power as possible. We standardized on only issuing our employees the 13" version, for example, because we wanted the larger screen resolution, faster processor and option for as large an SSD as possible. Lately, we've only gone with the custom build with 8GB of RAM too -- since our users are generally involved in graphics or video editing work.

People used to love the old Powerbook 12" and were upset when it disappeared. Seemed to be about as small as you could really make a laptop without it crossing over into the category of a "sub-notebook" or "ultrabook" or whatever you want to call it. Especially with a Retina display, complaints of too low a resolution should be squashed.

Makes complete sense. I have been wondering how this would work and it's been starring us in the face this whole time.

If it weren't for this thing's alleged horrible lack of ports, it would heavily cannibalize the rMBP. Seriously, the only reason I'm borrowing an rMBP for college instead of using an '09 MBP is for the retina display. Hardly anyone needs something faster than a new MBA.

However, sources familiar with the matter within Apple have exclusively told The Michael Report that ...

"exclusively told?" Is the source your girlfriend, and she told you to definitely not tell anyone else. And then you go blogging it. You're gonna lose her, if you aren't careful.

Yes!! I have been looking forward to this computer since last summer!
Way more excited about this than the watch personally.

I think it will be:
12" rMBA
13"cMBA <-- possibly updated to retina at somepoint but remain at the same form factor
13+15" rMBP

Intel has 3 (4 if you count larger notebook sizes) laptop categories. And Apple should try to make the best notebook they can at every category.

There is the new ultra-ultra thin fanless category: Y-series, Core M, Intel HD 5300, 4.5W, This category is most portable, lowest energy consumption, lowest performance. The new 12" rMBA will fall into this category.

Then there is the original ultra-book category: U-series, corei3-i7, intel HD 6000, 15W, This category has average portability, middle range energy consumption, and medium performance. The current MacBook Airs are in this category. And when they get updated they will stay in this category. Who knows if apple will put a retina display in this MacBook Air series... I really hope they do.

Finally, there is the performance category: also U/M-series technically, corei3-i7, intel iris 6100, 28W, this category has lower portability, higher power consumption, and high performance. The Current and future rMBPs are in this category.

Personally, I am stoked for all three notebook categories. One could argue that apple is going to phase out the current MacBook Air line, and not have a 11.5W ultra book category. But I believe they will keep this category as there are plenty of people that want something more portable than a MacBook Pro, but something more powerful than Core M. And I hope they do keep this line.

I suppose one could count the 47W extreme/power category for larger notebooks.

So this could put the product lineup like this:

13" current non-retina MBA(hope it does get retina) - $999
12" new fanless 12" rMBA - $1199
13" rMBP - $1299
15" rMBP - $1999 (yikes that's a lot still)

Or I suppose it could also look like this:

12" rMBA(new fanless) - $999
13" rMBA(old form factor, updates with retina display) - $1099-$1199
13" rMBP - $1299.

What do you guys think? I am genuinely interested in y'alls opinions.

So what they are saying is that this individual has been 45% accurate with his past predictions?

wth, I will believe him since my accuracy is 13.2%....

This race to smaller, thinner, and less performant systems is ********.
The top end of the line is languishing. If they want to make these lesser systems, fine, but add some pro features to the pro line please.

I assumed this was going to happen anyway :D. And if not this then the iPad Pro. There's no other (new) product that Apple is rumored to be working on for the short-term besides these two! Besides, it's not like they're going to dedicate +/- 2 hours to showcasing and talking about a product that they already showed for about an hour at the iPhone event.

So why did they announce the apple watch at the iPhone event?
