Yawn. If it's true that this thing loses its USB ports for the one uber port whatever-theyre-calling-it, I'm just not interested. Now a retina screen in the current form factor and ports and I'd probably get it.
I'm ordering one of these the minute the Apple Store goes back online next Monday...12" retina Air, fanless, IGZO display, usb type-c (one on each side), thunderbolt on one side and headphone jack on the other, it's going to be very thin...and magical (the new standard for the next 4 years)
I have this idea in my mind that this machine will be a very low cost machine. Well low cost for Apple. I can see it coming in at less that $700. Maybe far less. This would mean that the conventional Airs would maintain their current slotting in the lineup (updated of course).
In a nut shell I suspect this will be a big laptop event. The entire Air line up will be new hardware.
Apple Watch is the new Google Glass.
Yes!! I have been looking forward to this
12" rMBA(new fanless) - $999
13" rMBA(old form factor, updates with retina display) - $1099-$1199
13" rMBP - $1299.
What do you guys think? I am genuinely interested in y'alls opinions.
If Apple can improve on the 10 hour battery life, then it will be successful.
Yes! ....
But I expected nothing less at the event neither... oh well... i'll just say i predicted "something else", then we will all be happy.
I'm all for the fan-less Mac, but what the hell do u guys do with your macbook air's that would make you hear noise, enough to irritate you constantly?
(I'm not going to buy one... just want to see the reaction of others buying one)
Why would you tolerate the performance hit?

Actually almost everyone needs something faster than a MBA. I don't hold out much hope for the performance of a fanless machine.
The 11" has that initial "cool factor" where you realize it's so small, thin and light -- but the way Apple has sold the 11" Air to date, it's still "second class" from the perspective of offering as much power as possible. We standardized on only issuing our employees the 13" version, for example, because we wanted the larger screen resolution, faster processor and option for as large an SSD as possible. Lately, we've only gone with the custom build with 8GB of RAM too -- since our users are generally involved in graphics or video editing work.
Would rather have a 13in without a bezel rather than a 12 with bezel, just saying. But I'd also rather have a 14in with less bezel so it's more like the size of the 13
I the last 20 years or so I have switched from 15 / 14 / 13 Apple and non apple laptops. Maybe someday, if I have a need and spare $$ then will get 11 and a 15. It is so nice to have a bigger screen for older eyes.12" seems to be a perfect size and really makes the 11" and 13" expendable and no longer needed. I don't even need a laptop but damn..... Looks really nice.![]()
Not interested in the watch but may watch if a new Touch is announced.
I think you are close. I think Apple will drop both the 11'' and the 13'' MBA (or just not update them), make the 12'' rMBA fanless with the Core M processor. However I also believe that the 13'' rMBP will use a lower voltage processor, while the 15'' will keep the full voltage processor and Iris graphics.
The reason for Apple moving the 13'' rMBP is because the lower voltage CPU is good enough for most users and if they don't do this they will face a lot of competition from Windows ultrabooks (I can't think of any 13'' ultrabook with Iris graphics). The gains in battery life will be a trade off that most people who are going for the 13'' rMBP are willing to make.
Price is going to be along the lines of:
12'' rMBA $999 (Core M/128GB/8GB)
13'' rMBP $1199 (Core i5/256GB/8GB)
15'' rmBP $1799 (Core i7/256GB/16GB)
I think this announcement will be all about the apple watch. Apple isn't going to dilute the launch of the watch and confuse the customer over which product to buy. It will be about the watch and about what the watch can do. Expect apple to showcase a cool third party app that will leave us with wanting that watch.
