I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I've got my fingers crossed to see what might be in store for the MacBook.
I would love to get a MBP - but in my family, laptops do not seem to live long. Lots of accidental breakages. If AppleCare would cover accidental damage (or offer a plan for one) I would feel a lot more comfortable buying a higher end machine... For now it looks like it might be a MacBook or, *gasp* - maybe an HP...
Look into your home owners insurance. See if they offer a rider for computers. Mine does. Regardless of what happens to it (even if I run over it with my car) all my computers are covered. My current MBP was bought using insurance money from an old Powerbook that died in the night. Literally died at night. Was working just fine before going to bed, woke up the next morning, and it was dead. When I called my Insurance company, they did not seem to care why it died. When I offered an explanation, she listened, and then told me it didn't matter, as whatever happens to it, its covered. Ya my premiums went up, $12 a year. In 30 years I will have the laptop "paid off". Though my insurance company also has a "If you don't have a claim in 12 months, we reduce your premiums." clause. They happen to have reduced my premiums (its been 14 months) by $15 a year. Technically, they are paying me to own my MBP now.
