I can't see Apple releasing all that "on their website" without some kind of event. Even though the macbook was released originally without an event...Apple would make a big deal out of a new mouse and kb!

Because major update is alway's presented in an event. And the event is alway's anounce at least one week before. It's the time needed to make appointment to all the audiance present in the room of the event. You can't invite people with only few hour of delay.

Small update is possible without an event, like speed bump, storage increase, but never a major redesign update like the rumors state, especially for the iMac.

So you read it from me first. IF there is a major update, I mean redesign, we will know about an event this week for next week. That's it. Period.

You're still wrong. If you're confused read above.

Here's my prediction:

  • Thinner iMac, quad core on the high end, no Blu-ray
  • Speed bumped Mac Mini
  • Redesigned MacBook
  • New Mouse
  • New keyboard with trackpad

Sounds like a reguritation of what every apple rumor site has just about been reporting for the past several few weeks?

hmm not really, the same white plastic than the iBook, just the size of the screen change and the intel chip instead of PPC. not an overhaul redesign with new feature
ho yes maybe a new keyboard, but not really a new design for the rest

You know not of what you write. It was a total new product. Screen, magsafe, Intel all around, keyboard, screen size... All new.

They'll let the buzz come from the community and it'll be spread via tech sites. Passive aggressive kinda thing towards MS. Apple news will be all over tomorrow regarding financials released today. They've already got a platform without scheduling an event.

galdurnit! I figured there'd be no new AEBS type of thing tomorrow, even though amazon was out of stock, so I went ahead and got one on ebay for fairly cheap ($100). It's coming Wednesday, so I can ogle what's new and then set up what is old.

How can there be a speed bump when the fastest core 2 Intel offers is 3.06 ghz? It has to be Clarksfield and not sure there needs to be an event for that.

You cannot be serious.
However well Apple is doing, the number of expected Windows 7 sales in the near future is shocking. I accept that many people buy a new MS OS with new hardware (unless they get a 'new' one by downgrading from Vista), but the corporate market on its own is so huge that it would embarrass your statement about geeks. For larger companies, 7 will be a major upgrade. Or in the public sector. There, they install new OSs by the millions. Probably more than what Snow Leopard will ever sell.

I'm sorry but that is a bit of a ridiculous statement. Companies are not going to do a massive upgrade of hardware, and since many of their computers are old, wouldn't do so in the middle of a recession which is what it would take to run Windows 7. Also IT's don't want to switch because of the hassle and any blame would go on their shoulders. IT's don't want to change anything if they believe it is working fine as is.

Also, I wouldn't patronize the majority as to say that only geeks would be able to install a new OS. People can, you know, make copies and backups of their photos and important files before do a clean install. Ironically, Intel Macs, BootCamp and the other usual suspects opened a whole new market for Windows - the Mac people who might want or have to have a bit of both worlds.

The majority doesn't back up. The majority doesn't update. The majority don't know much about computers. That is the way it is. Yes, people can do things but they don't in terms of computers. IE6 is still the most used web browser on Earth. Most companies still use IE6 and some use IE5. Microsoft has still, to this day, continually extending the support for XP. You're not introducing anyone new to Windows. Look at what's been going on the past few years. The Mac market share has been growing from people leaving Windows. You cannot be a Mac user, or a computer user in general, without having used Windows at least a few times. I'm not making these statements as a fanboy, but rather as an observer. There is huge chunk of Windows users that don't care what computer they buy as long as they have one.

My final point is that under the Vista period and during the iPhone madness, Apple could pretty much do whatever it wanted and it still gained market share. A new, more stable MS OS will make that more difficult in the future. Unless 7 turns out to be a total bitch, Apple will have to come up with something big again.

This is the part that you're missing. I don't think it really matters how stable it is. Like I've said before Windows users generally don't upgrade, they get new computers. We are in a middle of a recession and been in one for almost this whole decade, really. People don't care about buying new computers when they have mortgages to pay along with healthcare bills and college tuitions.

Most of Microsoft's market share comes from the low-end and they make most of their money on the high end where Apple has been increasing their market share. From anecdotal evidence, it seems greater than 50% now. This is the reason why you see MS's profits go down while their market share is still dominant.

imac page at apple store change at 12:40 a.m. EST

imac shipping time has just "reset" to "2 weeks" for all models at 12:40 a.m. EST.

Please, no MBP updates! I just got one last Thursday and I'd hate to eat the restocking fee. Knowing me (fool that I am) I'd prolly eat it, even if it's something as minor as a return to the pre unibody keyboard (or a close approximation of such), in place of the f-ugly black one (the machine is the silver bezeled AG version, which makes the black keyboard stand out much more than on the stock glossy model).

They aren't going to do these big redesigns without a press conference. No press conference scheduled so none of this happening.

Slight refresh 2 weeks from tomorrow.

The iPod shuffle never had a event... And that was a big redesign

Still 24 hour MBP shipping so odds are you're safe.

prior to the "reset" the 3.06 showed shipping time as 1-2 days... again... all models now show shipping time as "2 weeks." The new models will be announced tomorrow????

No it wasn't. The 3G shuffle appeared out of the blue.

The updated colours were shown off at the event in September.

I remember watching a stream of the demo presentation of how it works....

Yes, they did show off updated colors recently, but i'm not talking about that.
