So ruin one of the most innovative additions to phones so that we can...what exactly. Have slightly bigger phones?

This is one of those things I can imagine the new Apple doing that just seems terrible. Terrible. Flash over substance.

It will not be on the back. Boom, quote me, watch and see. End of story. Stop posting these BS "stories".
Exactly. Dumb sensationalists with no credibility or integrity; they just piece together "best guesses" from the most popular, recent Android handsets (Pixel, S8) realise that both use a rear sensor, and come to some unfounded, idiotic, baseless "conclusion". DOH!

PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS!

....I don't think the Touch ID being on the back won't be that bad.

I don't either. But there are those who curse, scream and boycott Apple for not meeting their personal expectations. Then again, I do question the validity of these Touch ID rumors on the back of the iPhone.

These very same people will be buying the 8 once it releases. Personally don't care if it's on the back. Those huge bezels have got to go

Yes, I would like to see the bezels reduced on the iPhone. I think what Samsung did with the S8 this year was fantastic and the overall hardware on that phone is very nice.

Yes yes yes, "hardware, hardware, hardware" - a car is only as good as the petrol one fuels it with. FACT, absolute FACT! Ain't no good running a Space Shuttle on whisky, ain't no good running a Bugatti Veyron on vodka. I wouldn't even equate hardware alone to be HALF the story - without the best software, it's worthless silicon and solder.

Talking of silicates...
better not drop that fragile lump of Galaxy crap.

All these posters moaning about touch ID on the back. Here's the reality of the situation, if Apple can't get it to work 100% of the time under the glass front it will go on the back. Working 80% of the time is not good enough for Apple as it gives a bad user experience. This is the dilemma Apple is in now. Good user experience with minor inconveniences (dock, have to pick it up etc) but it always works or the more visually pleasing option that may or may not work every time touch ID is used. I know what I'd prefer.

I really don't like the idea of it on the back. Feels like an admission of failure on their part if they do that.

Also when Samsung releases the S9 next year and it has integrated fingerprint sensor .. apple will appear to just be copying Samsung (like this year) .. this is the first time I've considered an android phone.. iPhone is starting to feel lagging, I'd prefer they delay their new phones by 2 months than have a copycat product.
[doublepost=1494139439][/doublepost]What would truly be revolutionary is if you Touch ID was anywhere on the screen! Imagine just touching anywhere and having the phone unlock!

Next week: TouchID sensor is on the side

Seriously... if the iPhone 8 really would have a no-bezel OLED screen I could have been tempted so change my iPhone 7 for the 2017 model. But the home button on the back makes no sense to me. Another reason to wait one more year.

From a practical standpoint, touch ID on the back just doesn't work. For one, you won't be able to unlock the phone while it's sitting on your desk, which immediately takes away 50% of your unlock options. Also, a case would have to have a cutout on the rear to accommodate, adding to the phone's vulnerability. Then there's the issue with car mounts - I often unlock while it's clipped into its dash mount to access the maps. (While stationary, of course). All seems like a step back.
Having used both Android and iPhone I much prefer having the scanner on the back. It is much faster for me to unlock. When it's face down I either pick it up or double tap the screen to unlock and enter my pin.

Hopefully that doesn't happen. I like having my fingerprint sensor where I can see it and not spend 10 seconds trying to find it with my finger every time I want to unlock the device.
It's not at all difficult to find the scanner. Having owned the Nexus 6P as well as the G6 the fingerprint scanner is right down the center of the phone my index finger would naturally be. Using finger print scanner on my old iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge was more cumbersome.

Am I the only one that can *never* get Touch ID to work?

This was a feature I was really looking forward to when I upgraded from an iPhone 3GS to the iP7. I've tried so many times to get it to work but I finally just gave up on it. So frustrating.

It will work for a day or two, and then completely forget who I am.

EDIT: To add insult to injury, the Touch ID sensor broke on my 1st iP7 and I had to get an ENTIRELY new iP7 to replace it. Even though I didn't use Touch ID, the home button functionality stopped and I couldn't even get into the phone unless I shut it off and back on again. The new iP7 has the same problem with never recognizing my prints. Is this some kind of joke? The iP7 will likely be my last iPhone purchase.

Tough ID has never worked well for me either for some reason. Multiple phones and same deal. It works for a few days then it just stops. I've given up using it altogether. I suspect it's my dry skin from frequent hand washing or something. I've even tried on my husbands phone and the same thing happens. I don't even care anymore really.

If the fingerprint sensor is on the back I'll be waiting another year to replace my creaking 6 Plus...

I don' t like it either.
But it depends on the design of the entire iphone. If it is really all screen l, with just the little strip with sensors/camera' s on the top, i really don' t know.
But if.. it also has a pretty big bezel area on the chin, AND they put touchid on the back, i won' t buy it.

Still have a feeling that there Is a concepts/leaks mix up with the iphone 8/x/edition of this year, with the iphone 8 of next year, and i even think there is even thrown a leak of the new iphone se(+) of next year in there somewhere.

The iphone 8 naming for the iphone edition or whatever for this year, is responsible for that.

That vertical camera configuration is going to take some getting used to. Because it's ugly. Also, I use a dashboard mount in my car for my iPhone. If that finger print sensor is in the back it's going to make it awkward to use my phone while moving. It's a step backward in usability.
Vertical isn't by definition ugly, but the implementation is. But that started even with the horizontal arrangement thanks to Apple's decision to pursue thinness at the expense of all else.
[doublepost=1494152453][/doublepost]Every chance it will be on the back. When there are product design choices on the table, Cook has a knack for plumping for the fugly one.

"iPhone to ditch fingerprint sensor? We don’t think so."

Till next rumor. I'd rather just sit and wait to see what Apple says. Unless Apple Apple can 'turn the key' at the last minute it won't be under the screen.

If Apple are unable to implement the Touch ID under the screen then why not place it on the side next to or on the power button? Like Sony. Simples!
