My guess is it will be the same thing again but with slightly faster processor, more RAM, slightly modified remote, Thread, UWB.

Possibilities are 128GB, HDMI 2.1, Hey Siri. you need storage for games and apps, but since it is a streaming-centric device I doubt they will add much more. They want high performance storage which is expensive. Apple will probably figure that most people don’t need 120/4K VRR or have a TV that can handle it and might not bother paying the extra costs for the 2.1 chipset. Probably don’t expect a separate audio port either. Most devices take hdmi or you can get a receiver to separate it.

Now what I am talking about is a refreshed 4K version. On the other hand, an Apple TV Pro might bring some of those other features on everyone’s wishlist.

I'll believe it when I see it. Isn't this Gurman dude the guy who said Apple would release AirPods Studio with touch sensitive controls, neck detection and automatic ear detection? What happened to that? He couldn't accept or admit he was wrong but instead blamed Apple for last minute changes.

I dunno, the rumor of imminent release of a new Apple TV has appeared several times over the last few years. I'm not so sure it's going to happen until there is a reason beyond an updated SOC.

He's talking about the feature that lets the sound in AirPods change as you turn your head, simulating a surround sound system in headphones. It works currently with iOS devices and nothing else, but would obviously be a great fit with ATV.
Exactly. It‘s fun to try this with an iPad, but I‘d obviously prefer to watch movies on a bigger screen and still get to experience spatial audio. Actually, this would be the main/only reason for me to get Airpods Max as well.

There's probably 2 TB of games I'd want to download. Apple offering 32GB/64GB options is Nintendo-level of shortsightedness. Them "fixing" things by offering a 64GB/128GB option doesn't help enough. I couldn't even download all the Apple Arcade games on my 256GB iPhone without it filling up.

The Switch, despite all its flaws, has a relatively decent way of managing limited storage.

You can easily archive list the biggest games, then archive them. This saves their data, but removes the bulk of the game. Even the iPhone/iPad can do this.

Am I missing this on Apple TV? I can only find the option to delete the game and ALL data.

My Xbox One X has ~11 TB of storage available. My PS4 Pro has ~8 TB of storage available. My Switch has only ~400GB. My Apple TV? Just 64GB. It's always full, updates take forever as it tries to free space, and it won't even download screensavers any more since no free storage is available.
I am probably a bit senile , but isn't the PS5 has less then 1TB ? fast storage is very expensive (what Apple uses).

I think the reason it was delayed from Fall 2020 to sometimes in 2021 was because they intended to have it based on a A14.
Let's hope so. As Apple gets more serious about gaming, A14 seems like the minimum they'd want.

This entire year was the perfect time to roll out a new system given more people are at home due to the pandemic.

Seems Apple let it slip by — missed opportunity.

That said I bought a refurb 4K and love it. Will add a new one to our other TV when it comes out.

They could be waiting on some lower binned A14 parts they can throw into it since it has a higher thermal package. And then an A14X Pro version that gets released alongside the next iPad Pro in the spring?

I suspect it's easier to pull off on an iOS device, since the device is necessarily in the same place as the display -- whereas with ATV the box could be placed almost anywhere. In my living room, for instance, it's on the opposite end of the room from the screen because it's hooked up to a projector. Still, I'm sure Apple could figure this out.

Yeah, I know. I guess my point is that the TV is pretty stationary --- so it's not clear to me why spacial audio makes sense for something you're watching at a fixed position.

Pretty sure they'd have had to start developing a new Apple TV long before the pandemic for it to roll out in 2020. I think there's more to it than just emailing the plans over to China or whatever and saying "make five million of these, thanks".

Would you really need to have them all installed at once though? Not sure how many Arcade games I’d want on the go at the same time or want to go back to that frequently once I’m done.

Really hope they are putting an audio out back in like they used to have. Not being able to separate audio and video really limits the use cases with projectors and amplifiers.
Sorry spdif/toslink is not comming back, and you lose the ne hdeff audio formats any way, here is a sugested setup ( all interdevice links are hdmi 2.1. Atv4k-0->sorround amp-> hdmi swich /splitter ( outputs tv,projector. The splitter is only necesery if you have both tv and projector in the save room ) added bones: by using the reciever as the hdmi switch audio and video is switch at the same time and you avoid an extra switch ( one less thing to fail). The reason for the death of the saparated digital audio outpot is lack of copy orotection, holywood is so scared about us stealing their audio tracks

I'll quadriple, quintuple, megatuple the hope for an updated remote. That crap designed by Jony Ive and compnay was, well, crap.

I still buy original apple tv remotes (as spares) to control my apple tv 4k boxes, because they are SO much easier to use.

Note to Apple: Having REAL buttons isn't gonna give me Covid, Cancer, Aids, or whatever the hell else you think the problem with real buttons is.
Just make it usable. Stop trying to re-invent the wheel for gods sake.
I fell in love with the Samsung TV remote. No numbers cause I only stream anyway. Easy to use without looking. Small. Just perfect. Would like to know if I could use it instead of the original Apple TV remote somehow.

Apple TV should be able to be hooked up to an external ssd. Not just to load tons of games but to host all my musik and photos. Kinda like a small personal server.
