I think the measurements he gave you are the screen dimensions, not the device dimension

Because in this post on x, he compared the 111.5mm of the Ultra to the 71mm of the Pro Max. 71mm is the height of the 17 Pro Max screen height when it’s in landscape, not the height of the whole device which is 78mm.

So if we assume the rest of the measurements he gave you are also screen measurements:

iZac:
- 115.3 & 113.9 (Height Closed & Open)
- 78.5 & 160.9 (Width Closed & Open)
- 9.6 & 4.8 (Depth Closed & Open)

Vadim:
- 111.5 (Height Open)
- 84.1 & 163.5 (Width Closed & Open)
- 11 & 5.5 (Depth Closed & Open)

Maybe you could confirm this with him?

I doubt the width of the folded screen is 84.1mm. Maybe for this one he used the width of the whole device?
I made a mistake with the height. I didn't watch his video close enough. 🫠

I've attached a screenshot from the video. When measuring the screen, he went beyond the screen to the left of the image but seemed to stop at the edge of the screen to the right of the image. So while it's taller than 111.5 mm, I don't think by very much. I've added 4 mm (2 mm top and bottom bezel) to make it 115.5 mm.

You're mistaken with respect to the width closed. The 17 Pro Max is 78.0 mm in width. Clearly the Ultra is noticeably wider than the 17 Pro Max. Also, when I asked Vadim for the width both opened and closed, my words were "exact width." So I'm confident he understood I meant beyond the screen and the numbers he gave me are correct.

Here is a video confirming the width closed. (I wouldn't bother watching the video, personally.)

I've attached a screenshot from the width measurement. He found it to be 82.2 mm.

ALSO...

I'm looking at this video's comments, and the creator says the height is 117.5 mm.

So very very close to izac’s renders afterall

However I’m hoping the dummy design is not the final one

Camera plateau not expanding to the edge and the thickness as well as mag safe, these are the things that make me wish it’s not final, but they’re not deal breakers for me

Wow, so I was 3mm out? not bad 😎

Mate, seriously, a hat tip to you, sir. You absolutely nailed it! 🥳

Been watching some vids of the Pura X Max and new Moto Razr Fold. I am so glad Apple is going with their form factor. I think it's the far superior choice.

Four more months till this thing gets announced....

Announced is one thing... released is a different matter, because no one really knows. Some think it will be released simultaneously with the other iPhone models while others believe it will be delayed one to three months.

Yes I know. Hence why I used the word announced.

And I get that. Maybe the comment isn't targeting just for you... hence it is a forum.
Well, you did quote me. So yes, those words are directed at me. (And also read by fellow forum members.)

Gurman's vibe regarding this issue is that it shouldn't be delayed too much longer than the keynote date. Obviously that can change in the next four months. But if I had to guess based on Mark's words, I think we'll see this device in October or early November at the latest. Assuming there is a delay in the first place.

Some reference material for your next renders 🙂

(dimensions around the 6:20 mark)

These were his dimensions (mm, of course)....

117.71 (Height)

84.27 (Width Closed)

11.0 (Depth Closed)

5.24 (Depth Opened)

He didn't measure the width when opened for some reason.

His numbers line up with what Vadim gave us.

And that's my point... you probably aware of the reports, but fellow members may not be informed regardless if it's directed toward you.

With all the speculation and everything because we know how it looks, reports have stated that it's not going to run iPadOS on the inner screen. But devs will be able to optimize their iPhone apps... so there is a sense of what to expect. That's why I mentioned the word release, because I'm more interested in the release date now.

Cheers! It's good to see Youtube channels taking different measurements that others missed, to get a broader picture.

Today I've been doing a little tinkering to match these dummy models and eyeballed the camera bump and lens thickness. My estimation was 16.9mm as opposed to 16.57mm measured in this Unbox Therapy vid, so not too bad.

Also if it really is going to have a black camera bump as rumoured and also be titanium, I've convinced myself that it could indeed have an iPhone X aesthetic, with polished glass and a little chrome edge around the bump - rather than being a straight clone of the iPhone Air.

The test image below is a tweak to what I was previously thinking back in Feb. The chrome edge could use the same profile as the glass to match the dummy models.

The purple colour of these 18 Pros flanking it is also the rumoured Pantone colour from the other day.

Nice!!! I do wonder though…. Could this be a unibody? All aluminum/titanium without a glass back? Basically going more for a foldable iPad design than an iPhone? Would explain no MagSafe….

Doubt it. Even if it doesn’t have MagSafe, it will have Qi charging. Has to be glass, polycarbonate, or a plastic back.

Yeah I was deliberating this too. In my own internal logic I concluded that since the iPhone 15/16/Air only have a slither of titanium for the external finish with an aluminium mid-frame, that Apple wouldn't be likely to have the entire back plate be titanium. That could either be for cost or manufacturing reasons. So I fell back on glass.

Of course it could end up being all aluminium too (like an iPad) but for $2000 bucks, who knows? Perhaps Apple will surprise us with a novel titanium alloy that is strong but also cheap!

3D printed like the Apple Watch Ultra?

I highly doubt a unibody titanium design myself. I was thinking if anything, aluminum unibody with a titanium hinge. Most likely, the dummy models floating around just aren't feature complete which explains no MagSafe and camera flash. My actual guess is that it will look just like two iPhone Airs held together being that the Air was most likely the result of R&D for the foldable.

Morning all!

Been following this thread since - well a year ago! It’s astonishing so little has really changed since then.

Wading in on the new dummy units based on Sonny’s post. I find it very hard to believe the thickness will be 11mm when all reporting prior have suggested 9 - 10mm. Perhaps the layout is correct? But also why does it have a plateau that doesn’t go the full width? Perhaps the internal engineering near the hinge requires the rigidity from the glass - or aesthetically it looks wierd going the full half width when unfolded. May be cases don’t work with it full width.

It also has very sharp corners - which I would assume would be bevelled or chamfered in real life. The hinge corners are very un-Apple.

Then again some things we think are crazy design choices actually come to pass.

Only 4 months til we find out. Right now I don’t have £2k to drop on a phone but it is still the most interesting product they’ll have released in a long time - the Neo also takes second place.

I was just going to post the Zone of Tech measurements...

So his measurements confirm what I've written prior here.

I'm a big fan of this YouTuber, but this video is a big disappointment. He says this will be the thickest foldable on the market. Nope. The Pura X Max is 11.2 mm.

I also don't get why so many of you don't believe this thickness. I know the previous rumors said otherwise, but in the end, they are, in fact, just rumors. A dummy unit from Sonny is far more reliable for measurements.

I also don't see reviewers complaining about the thickness of the Pura X Max. The Ultra will be as thin as an iPhone Air when opened. It will be very comfortable to hold in this state.

I do think it will be noticeably heavy in hand when closed. (Especially when used with a case.) And yes, I'd prefer it to be thinner for this reason alone. But I'm assuming that will come with future generations. I think it's clear the cons of the first-gen Ultra will be its weight when closed, no Face ID, potentially no MagSafe, and no telephoto lens.

The open-device dimensions you posted before were wrong though like I pointed out (111mm and 163mm which are both wrong like I corrected you before)

But yeah he seems to judge the device based on thickness which doesn’t make sense especially if it will have 5400-5800mah battery

I don’t care about the telephoto or face id or even the thickness, but I do hope it’s not very heavy as the weight is an important factor

Mate, I already said my original height was wrong and corrected it a while ago. The width was always correct.

Corrected after I pointed out that it doesn’t make sense XD and the width you posted is still wrong (163.5mm vs 168.4mm)

Actually, it was @iZac that pointed out my error in a private message. When I went to this thread to say I was wrong, you had written the same thing to me.

Mate, I posted the unfolded width that I was told from Vadim. Why him and Zone of Tech have different numbers, I have no idea.

If the dummy’s thickness is accurate, are you guys gonna use protective cases? TPU cases which are the ones that actually protect the device if it falls are quite thick, they’d probably add around 3mm to the thickness

I’m thinking I’d just use a very slim case, granted it wouldn't provide any protection from the drop impact, but it would protect it from scratches and dust, and still be thin
