The new public beta is available both for iPhone and Watch. I’ve installed it last night - there’s no interval training in my plan for the next few days… but I guess I can set a custom workout for a regular tempo run - will try and see! 👍

If the public beta is just the dev beta but later, then the bug still exists as its in the latest dev beta.

Yeah sorry might be the case - just read that the iOS beta was a second build so had hopes
Well I don’t have access to the dev beta - but someone mentioned in another thread that there was a small update to the dev beta as well last night. The question is whether they managed to squeeze the fix in it… fingers crossed!

My thoughts ! Let’s hope

Adding to beta discussion, I only see an iOS developer beta 4 update that just appears to be small updates (not DB 5). I don’t see a watch update.

I ran 6 miles this morning. No GPS data missing, just a couple of odd moments where apparently I ran in the river for a quarter mile or so. Definitely got some pacing wrong, as I’m pretty confident that I wasn’t running a 22:00 mile when going for an 8:46 pace on a downhill.

Overall this issue has improved over the last week. Since this thread is becoming my new Strava, I won’t post anymore updates here until the next beta comes out.

Okay today’s testing run with public beta 2 (just a simple short custom workout - 3 km work, 5 mins rest) had zero gaps. BUT, the path looks pretty wonky… I assume it’s because it’s been a rainy day here today and the skies are covered with clouds..? 🤔

Anyway - not saying that the bug is fixed just yet, but it did not manifest today. (Previously it did even within a shorter run.)

Reminds me pretty much on how wonky my tracks were with watchOS 7 and LTE enabled (or having my iPhone connected while running). Would be bad if this bug is back, I love the accuracy of my AW 7 since watchOS 8.

In my case, the problem still occurs. Despite the update to the new iOS beta (updated today to beta 4 ver 2). Today I checked while running - the problem still occurs. To make matters worse, these "holes" in the GPS position seem to be completely random. And the problem is not improving at all.

@bullhohorn new watchOS beta ?

I’ve gotten weird paths like this plenty of times when I don’t take my phone. They seem to keep distance and pace pretty accurate, so they don’t bother me as much as losing gps.

I had my phone with me. Interestingly, when I was running back less than an hour later, the gps path was fairly smooth and accurate. Most of the thick clouds moved away in the meantime - so that seems to confirm the theory that it was the weather / satellite visibility. At least I hope so! 😃

Just completed my intervals run on the same path as always and about 20% of the run is missing. Used Watch+iPhone with the new iOS 17 build that dropped yesterday.

Which model of AW are you running with?

Asking because the issue could be an iOS problem also, when AW is using iPhone GPS. Would be the case if AW is <8 or not an Ultra.

AW 8. I tried running with and without phone and the GPS gaps were similar.
Ok, then it is an issue of watchOS as GPS is taken solely from the AW, no matter if an iPhone is in reach or not.

Hope Apple fixes this bug before launch of watchOS 10. Not too many weeks until then though.

Damn this looks bad! Really hope they get to fix this, as it's a pretty severe error for the big Marathons and Half Marathons for the fall!

Thought about this while running. Could also be the case that this bug lets AW8 and Ultra use the iPhone GPS as this is most likely just a software feature to not use iPhone GPS. Excuse the complicated sentence, I am no native speaker.
So two things would be interesting: does the error occur also when no iPhone is in range? And second: is the bug/wonky tracks also there when tracking with other apps?

No, GPS data at all on my Monday run!. The was with the first beta, updated to the latest yesterday.
Does anybody know if the GPS continues to be levered on S7 and below on watchOS10? When I go for a walk the little GPS arrow no longer shows on my iPhone.

GPS should still work fine. I believe this is a bug. You may need to check location services for apps though. I have a dog tracking app (dog has a tracker) which needed location services turned on again.

It has recorded the distance correctly just no map. Have since done and outdoor swim recorded with no issues.

What app did you use? Apples own apps do have a lot of 'smoothing' concerning GPS data, so that it looks 'nicer'.
When using WorkOutDoors or other apps you can see 'real' GPS data.

I had the same issue (no GPS data) on a run this week. Apple Watch Ultra. So this really is just a bug

Which watch is this? My S4 and S7 used to have a much worse GPS trail than the Ultra.
