I just ordered the complete Firefly series a few days ago at Sendit (UK) for £11.99 (£14.59 including shipping to Norway, a price I'm more than happy with, it's well under a third of what I'd have to pay in shops here). They are temporarily out of stock, but has reordered and the website has it shipping within 72 hrs (even if I'm not overly optimistic).

Hoping to get through that before I go out and buy the Serenity DVD when that comes out here in Norway in a couple of weeks...

Most films are released the same time here than the rest of the world, or at least Europe, but a couple of films lately, often SciFi films like The Hitchhiker's Guide, have been extremely slow. Annoying.

Sorry to revive this thread, I just bought the serenity DVD after reading about all this hype in here. Now I am hooked, I am planning to get the series, which unfortunately is not available here so I have to get it on amazon. Damm.... I have to wait for a few more weeks...
I have to say, I do not understand a word of chinese the captain was saying :p even though I speak chinese quite fluently.
Same as me. I never even heard of the series or movie.

Reference Serenity: Rented it. Liked it. Bought it. :D

Don't feel bad about reviving this thread. If it helped convince you to see Serenity, it could help convince more people to see it, which could help the prospects for a sequel. The more often this thread is revived, and shows up in the New Posts the more people we might pull in. I am not advocating spamming but any legitimate discussion, Serenity/Firefly news, rumors or theories are welcome here.

Anybody here reading the Serenity comic books? They fill in the gap between Firefly:Objects in Space and Serenity. They've apparently just been released as a graphic novel. Are they any good?
Reference Serenity, recommend the Widescreen version.

Rented the regular version first.

Then purchased the Widescreen version.

Having seen both a couple of times, I was surprised how much different the two version seem. IMHO, the Widescreen version just gives a better view.

What do the rest of you think?

I did a bad thing today. I was listening to the Firefly Talk podcast and listened to the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial for the thousand and first time. Then I went home and put the video on my iPod (I guess Google videos is good for something).

I was trying to find a midi file of the tune, since it is peppy enough to hear outside if I put it on my phone. I haven't had any luck - I was just wondering if anybody had seen it or has a copy of it. (man, I feel like a 14 yo girl... )

Firefly Series

My girlfriend persuaded me to watch Serenity on DVD (the movie) and I bought her the Firefly series on DVD from Amazon (£11).

This weekend I watched all of them (1 - 14) and I've felt depressed ever since, because the series was so damned good. I was a bit concerned that it was Joss Whedon, because there's just too much smart-arsed back-chatty one-liner-ing in Buffy and others, but this series was so different and so real. Plus the title music is really catchy.

The characters are really easy to buy into and there was not one dud episode. I would highly recommend this series / movie.

:( Still depressed...

Welcome to the club. The Signal and Firefly Talk podcasts might be worth your time to look into. I'm currently a few weeks behind due to class projects and hectic work but they managed to help me with my Firefly fix for a few weeks. Of course it just made me want to watch Serenity or the series again but that's not a bad thing.

I randomly bought the DVD of "Serenity" a couple of months back - it looked pretty good from the cover and the synopsis on the back. Took it home, watched it and loved it. What a great movie.

Trying to buy the series on-line proved more of a challenge - it was sold out everywhere! I eventually got it from play.com and watched all the episodes over the course of a week. Brilliant, just as good as the film, and very, very funny.

After watching the series, I watched the film again. And it was just as good as the first time I watched it.

I am *not* a big sci-fi fan. I don't like Star Trek and I think Star Wars is awful. But Serenity/Firefly are great, IMHO. Go figure.

I'm just glad I haven't been feeling like this for the last few years!

Maybe someone should get Jobs to put it on the iTMS - perhaps it'd pique more interest. I'd never even heard of Firefly before - damned Television Corporations thinking they know best...maybe someone should sue for bereavement damages.

Yeah, all of the episodes were good, but that one is my favorite as well... great storyline with River, great dialogue, and I love the music.

I'd go with that too - the whole Lion bit is entertaining and the "River....River........Serenity?"

And boy ain't Kaylee somethin' special...;)

Acting seems really uninspired. And no big name actor to draw in the crowds. Looks like a dud to the general movie-going audience.

so was star wars *shrugs*. i loved the firefly series, i was addicted. i want to see this so badly!

Jubal Early is a great character. For a show with only 14 episodes, how did they manage to have so many great villains that you want to see more of? I'd like to see any of the following return:

Jubal Early
Patience
Saffron (or whatever)
Adlai Niska

But I think my favorite episode remains Out of Gas, probably followed by the one that starts with getting the mail (wow, that sounds boring doesn't it?).

OK, I'll bite. I remember the octopus but not the commercial itself. Which FF Talk is it in?

Joss Whedon's work--WHEN and IF he is allowed to do his thing without management messing things up--always seems to have a strangely broad appeal. Teenagers to senior citizens, and fans outside whatever genre it is.

The concept of Buffy (and Angel) bored me to tears. Vampires? Please. But I finally gave it a chance, and like Firefly, it's serious and funny in one. Hard to pin down, but well-made (though every long-running show has its dud moments).

Then, even after I was finally persuaded to give Buffy a chance, I still wasn't interested in Firefly. Luckily I finally gave that a chance too.

Now I have learned my lesson. If Joss Whedon makes a show or movie that looks silly and boring to me--I will know better!

But only if his ideas are left alone. That's why the Buffy movie is the worst movie I have ever seen, while the Buffy series is so good. Angel too.

It would have been nice to see Firefly grow to be as long and complex as Buffy. Firefly has more polish than Whedon's earlier series. Maybe one day it can return.

OK, the Fruity Oaty Bars are even stranger than I remember. I think that could make a very effective iCal alarm sound.

I went the extra mile--I gave the song album art of the octopus:

I'm sure everyone here knows the DVD easter egg but just in case.

At the main menu hit the left arrow so that the middle of the arc on the right side of the screen is highlighted. Hitting this button will take you to a small Joss commentary on the Fruity Oaty bar commercial and the full commercial.

Cool--but it seems like they're out of order on iTunes! On TV they messed with the order and some episodes had to be edited differently. I'm not sure who majot the changes were, but I know the original vision was restored for the DVD version.

Well, after my earlier rambling about how great Serenity is, I finally got around to watching the Firefly series...

Twice.

In two days.

What kind of brain-dead soulless freak could treat this show the way it was?

The second time through, my mum watched it with me and absolutely thoroughly enjoyed it too. I'm on a mission now: what on this World do we have to do to get another series?!!?

I'm still working on my friend who handles the budget for US import shows at our UK Channel 5... I nagged her to get the rights to House and Grey's Anatomy.... lo and behold, Five started showing it.

Step 1 in my diabolical plan is to nag her into getting the rights to show Firefly...

Step 2 is to get her to follow that up with the UK network premiere of Serenity. Y'know... try to build some momentum...

And then. The final step in the grand plan: Get Five to co-finance a second series! Mwahahaa! It worked for the UK's British Sky Broadcasting and Battlestar Galactica! Five shouldn't miss out on this opportunity, in my 'don't have any real clue about TV' opinion!

Get me Joss on the phone. I need to set up a conference call.

:)
