Just found out that Serenity will not premiere in Norway until Dec 2nd. Over two months after the world premiere. This sucks! It's Hitch-hikers Guide all over again (I'm still waiting to see that one as the Norwegian premiere is July 29th).

I enjoyed Firefly, and I am looking forward to Serenity, but I'm really surprised how much of a following this movie seems to have. I doubt it will do all that well in box office though, I think it's more of a cult following.

You have my sympathies. Columbia is terrible here in NZ - we usually have to wait a couple of months for their movies. Fortunately most of the other studios release the movies on time.

Hmm, just looked at IMDB, and it says 4/11 for Norway. It doesn't list NZ but does have 29/9 for Australia, and we usually get our movies on the same day.

I will.

I like indie movies as much as the next pretentious guy, but sometimes entertaiment is just that. You're missing some really good movies. And even better, some really bad ones.

I feel sad for you neildmitchell.

I too bought the DVD set after watching the trailer (and seeing the 5-star Amazon rating with over 1300 reviews).

For those who missed the series (or this thread, which I just found after searching for "Firefly"), I highly recommend viewing the series on Sci Fi or buying/renting/borrowing the DVD set.

With a newborn in the house, and with me on "night duty", I often found myself awake at odd hours. The four-disk set made for good company. Also, this is the first time I've ever listened to the audio commentary on a DVD for more than a minute or two. I watched each episode, then watched each one with audio commentary again, then watched the special features. Overall, I highly recommend the set and the series and am looking forward to the movie.

Looks pretty good, I guess. The little girl's fight scene looks like it will make your eyes bleed. Bad stunt actors are a pet peeve of mine.

Seeing the trailer to this movie has turned me onto the series. I rarely watch TV anymore so I am not up with what is good to watch. I was checking Quicktime though and saw the HD trailer for this one. It looks awesome.

Anyone have a link to the High Def trailer, it blows the regular trailer away.

I suspect the dreamlike quality of that fight is intentional--she's an odd character :) I'd expect her to fight "calmly" in fact.

Anyone who enjoyed the TV series should be sure to get the DVD or watch it next Friday on Sci-Fi. Fox ran the episodes out of order and left some out, so it made no sense! That mistake has been corrected, thankfully.

Apparently there have been advance screenings around the country that have done well. Firefly/Serenity does have a cult following, but it WOULD have had a big audience if Fox hadn't destroyed the order and billed it as a kind of comedy, confusing people and killing it off.

Unlike true "cult" movies/shows, this one appeals widely to a great many of the people who see it. It's not a difficult taste to "acquire." So I think the movie may do very well. (Not that that is the measure of quality by any means!)

EDIT: The HD version seems to be gone from Apple.com--except for the Australian page :)

Go see this film!!! Better yet, go buy the series on DVD, get hooked like everyone else who has ever seen a single episode, then go to the film. I have been very lucky here in austin, I have seen the movie two times. There have been two preview "beta" showings here and I was in line for them both. This movie will make you laugh cry pee your pants have nightmares and yern for more. This is probably one of the best writen and most enjoyable tv series' I have ever seen. Not only is it exciting from start to finish, but after every single eposiode you want to see more. And not in the stupid "24" way, but in the dorky harry potter way where you just need more. I hope that after the succes of the film, they will bring the show back, it deserves another round. **** reality tv.
This is just the first movie as well, if it does well there will be 2 more. And no, this isnt a part 1 or anything, it is just a conglomeration and info movie. The epsiodes do some first, and this is a rap-up of what has already come and an insiders view of whats to come. After you see it, if you know abything about the series, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Major, I mean major character and plot changes...
if you want more info, go to yahoo groups.. i think its "browncoats_firefly", but I could be wrong. It has something to do with the word "browncoats" (the army section that Mal (ship captian) was part of).

Unfortunately FOX is evil in the way that they contracted the movie rights to Universal. I had hopes that it would come back as a series on NBC or Sci-Fi but it appears that FOX would only let them make the movie if FOX still held the TV rights.

I can't wait for this film. My wife has already made baby sitting arrangements for that weekend so we can go see it.

More movies would be great too--but you can't tell as many hours of story in one movie per year as you can in one SEASON per year, so I still hope for a TV return even if it's less than likely.

It would probably be best on cable--maybe Sci-Fi--since the regular networks don't seem too open to things outside a strict formula. And Joss Whedon said something about never touching network TV again. So cable sounds like the perfect home for a new Firefly/Serenity series someday.

I still think the remote possibility is there, if there's enough interest after the movie(s). Fox doesn't want the show, and they own the rights, true. But Fox always owned the rights to Buffy and Angel I think, even though those shows were never Fox shows. So Fox could own the rights to Firefly and that doesn't stop another channel from having a series--they just have to pay something to Fox. (Or for that matter, Fox could sell the rights outright.)

And for some trivia... I think "Browncoats" is what all the rebels were called, not just Mal's unit.

yeah, that makes more sence, the browncoats thing. Mal was on the rebel side, fighting teh power!

I feel the same way about the searies leaving fox, nothing good has come from fox in a while. I mean I love the simpsons, but they are just getting a bit out of the funay, and the new family guy is ok, but I have only seen two new episodes so I really cant make a judgment. I watched the OC from time to time, but that doesnt mean I liked it....

Beware though it tends to hang my Safari near the end.
Consider yourself warned...

Edit: Scratch that it hangs Quicktime which hangs Safari as well since quicktime runs in the Safari window. I downloaded the file to verify the hang. My advice is to kill it when the title appears near the end, it usually skips there and then hangs.

Cool--but maybe I'll wait for it to appear officially--and crash-free--on the Apple site.

(Or maybe I'll skip it, not being fond of spoilers. It's only 2 months to wait anyway.)

Does the Shepherd get his turn in the new one?

Didn't see Book in it yet but haven't had time to do a frame by frame analysis yet.

Finally flipped through it in slow-mo and didn't see Book. Either he doesn't play as big of a part as he did in the show or he is supposed to be a surprise they don't want to ruin. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Or maybe his secrets will wait for the second movie...

You can have major roles for 9 characters on a TV show, but there isn't time to do them all justice in a movie. Still odd to leave him out of the trailer, but he's in the cast, so he's there somewhere :)

Of course he is one of the cast there was a lot of speculation about since he and Alan Tudyk were the last to show up in the cast listing on IMDB. Wonder if his part was reduced due to the uncertainty in casting....

Possible, however in the one shot he's in in the first trailer, and on the AIM badges sported on the website, Book has grown a beard. Major change in character image usually represents major character development. I think we can count on learning Book's secret in a major way for the movie.

Where is he in the first trailer, I have gone over it with a fine tooth comb multiple times and have yet to see him in either trailer.

He's in the very back of shot when Jayne turns the guy on his head (near the end). Took me a while to find too. :D

Must need a bigger screen then. Hard to tell that it's him on a 15" PB.

I still find it a bit curious that he doesn't show up on most of the publicity stuff I've seen, but I guess I'll have to wait to see the movie to find out what the deal is.
