*ahem*

Take the HD drive that came with the Mac, pop the PCB off of it and make a nic on the back to sever a line or two, then reinstall it.

I guarantee they wont even notice it.

Ditto for the main logic board.

Me and my manager did it at my old job to get rid of the anicent-assed 486-based engravers and get some modern technology. It was still PCs though. :(

If Apple refuse to replace it after three repairs by renaming a repair a service then they're the ones being dishonest. If you have to be dishonest back then so be it, don't feel guilty about it, they were the ones that broke the rules first.

Does anyone have the offical documents that are part of applecare, that say this, because i'd like to walk in the store with the papers that say i get a free refund!

I think you have to return the machine, its not a free refund and you get to keep the computer.

Well ya, i have give them my iMac...as for me " you get to keeping the computer" you mean i don't get to keep it right?

No you dont. You have to return, they just re-class it as DOA

The policy was mentioned to me as I posted by the repair center, and then when i rang applecare they confirmed it.

Your best bet is to ring Applecare and tell them, get them to issue you a case id and a rma if necessery - and then take it into the store with that information.

I'm not recommending this, but...

Well, the easiest way would be to fry the logic board. Hold down the PMU reset button for too long and it's toast. "Well, my G5 wouldn't wake from sleep, so I opened it up and reset the PMU just like the Knowledgebase instructs. I held it for no more than a second, but now it doesn't work."

This is great, my iMac G5 is sitting in the basement, now i can the original value of my iMac back, and spend it on things like xBox 360, and save it for a Wii, a 6G iPod and a 2G iPod Nano!

I hope this goes down like it seems it will..:)

The by far easiest way to fry a computer is to stick a metal butterknife in the ram slot, then turn on the computer. Me and my friend killed an old PC that way.

Yep its been repaired 3 times before due to proper faults, but when i asked apple to replace the machine on the third time, they decided to change the definition of repair and called one of the previous times a 'service'

So 1 more repair and it can be replaced with a macpro....
Aren't you an icon of honesty.

Then why did you create a thread asking how to go about doing it?

Because his heart is racing now that he realizes that what he's doing is pretty much insurance fraud and that everybody realizes exactly what he's up to.

er, if your computer works just fine, what's the difference? They took it in to fix it, and they... fixed it.

Sure, you feel entitled to a new machine, but you've got what you paid for right now - a G5 that's working just fine.

Because its a discussion group. I was reading another thread on this forum ( https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/124331/ post 2 : about running devilish processes in order to overwork the computer to make it fail. ) which I posted the link to earlier about a similar situation and what people have resorted to, and it made me think, would i dare do somthing like that with my G5 and hence I posted the thread... But in retrospect I hadnt really thought it through, :)

1 - Chance of ending up having no computer, 2 - could get in trouble with the law / or done for fraud I guess.

I'm the type of person who cant return badly prepared food at a restuarant, for fear of upsetting the staff, let alone anything more serious. In Ireland we say 'people have some neck' meaning they are cheaky or crooked, so that's what I meant when I posted earlier in the thread that 'I would not have the neck' to do it...

I'll keep my G5, until it's waranty expires in Jan and then sell it off and put the cash towards a mac-pro as was my initial intention before the seeds of evil were planted....

This really does just amount to insurance fraud. And if you don't have AppleCare, it amounts to you paying a lot of money to get your computer operational again.

You should probably go mad at Apple until they give you a new one right now. Three services = new mac. Fairs fair.

Yeah that crossed my mind, but I think I missed the boat on that one, I should have stood my ground previously when I had the last issue...

I sabotaged an electrical typewriter once. I was following some blind typing classes and i really didn't like them, much less the exercises we had to do at home.
I just cut one wire and the carriage went berserk. I did feel strange, but it was nice I had an excuse not to do the exercises.
The week after they had a new machine waiting for me :(.

I'm typing this with 4-6 fingers with an occasional glance at the keyboard.

So if the A/C breaks in your car, you consider it to be unacceptable?

If my brand new car breaks down 3 times in the first year, I'd say that's pretty unacceptable, yes. Even though I doubt they'd give me a full refund for that car, I'd probably never buy that brand again.
