....stolen MB keyboard....

...which Apple stole from Sony first....

And if you don't like the red, buy the black. Personally, I'd go for the champagne colour because, like you said, the Red is mismatched. I don't like black, so that's not happening. The black version is nicer than the black MacBook, though. Uniform colour, and a beautiful one at that, although I saw a Toshiba laptop with an even better "champagne" colour.

And besides, a laptop that's nearly as thin as an MBA, 11" screen, higher screen resolution than an MBA or MB, DVD burner or Blu-Ray burner, lighter weight than the MBA, dual 128 GB SSD with RAID, EVDO, HDMI, etc etc etc......would make up for the imperfect champagne colour when compared to the Toshiba I'm thinking of (which was also really nice, btw). ;)

To believe that only Apple makes nice laptops is like believing that BMW is the only manufacturer that makes nice cars or something. Your taste may be different than mine, but I can see beauty in something I'm not a fan of. I like Apple's designs, but I can appreciate a few buttons here and there. I like minimalism, but I can still appreciate contrast (when done right).

Wasn't it on the ZX spectrum first?

... and it still makes people go 'wow'

And that's one of if not the most important thing to Apple.

Non-Mac people think it's the most gorgeous computer in the world. It would be nice, though, if Apple could fix some of the current design's flaws, such as the warped lid.

But then you could say that EVERY keypad/keyboard where the keys are separate are a copy from the 1950s or something.

On a laptop, the chicklet keys are more attributed to Sony than anyone else, particularly the black keys used on the MBA. In fact, the MBA's keys become even less original if you take a look at the old Ti PowerBook design from as early as 2002.

And this design looks similar to a few Dell laptops, which came out later.

MBP is indeed the most beautiful notebook out there, but this does not mean that apple should keep exactly the same design forever...
I think it needs some improvements to maintain a contemporary design character...

Even ferrari changes its design every now and then... and its not because fiat cars are becoming more beautiful...

the MBP's now look square, 'uncool' and just plain old!

'Uncool' comparing to what? To Lamborghini Reventón? De gustibus non est disputandum. I still like this design very much. Even compared to Lamborghini Reventón.

The Lambo looks old too, I would still want a newer car and MBP!

The Reventon is not the same lambo as posted above, it is, in fact, one of their newest models:

That said, my 12" Powerbook still looks at lot better than my friends' clunky plasticky PCs. The main computer part is starting to look a little on the thick side, but it still get's "woah that's tiny!" or "cool what kind of iMac is that?" :)rolleyes:) comments when I use it in public.

since when can you compare a car to a laptop??

thats like saying the moon is stupid because trees have leaves...

I have to say saw a 12" powerbook at Apple, getting repaired and liked the look, the MBP not so much.

No offence, but... are you familiar with a phenomenon called joke?

And btw, the moon could be stupid because trees have leaves -- until scientifically proven otherwise.

haha did they really??

see im the opposite to you. i prefer simplicity and not being crowded. those sony laptops, whilest having very impressive tech specs, do not appeal to me. i think they would go out of date extremely quickly, somewhere within the 1/2year mark whereas the PB/MBP design has easily lasted 6 years..

p.s. im not a fan of champagne

best design ever, timeless, perfect.

perfect yes, timeless no. old somewhat.

i believe im not familiar with that phenomenon.... never heard of it.

btw i highly doubt that could be scientifically proven.

The point I was attempting to illustrate with the photo of the Countach was a general principal of design(incidentally Countach is Italian slang for 'wow' and was the collective reaction by onlookers when exited the workshop before being named :) ). While every design has clues to when it was designe, if it's a good design, be it a laptop, a mobile phone, a building or whatever it will still look good no matter how old it is.

When I turn on the television, if there's an advert with a computer in it, 9 times out of 10 it's a MacBook Pro. So clearly the advertising world, where image is their profession, still consider it to be the sexiest laptop about 6 and a half years on. Smacks of good design to me!

ok, the PB was a good fundamental design yes. the MBP's updated PB designs are good. however, they are old! they are looking out of date and not 'hip'. the design is now to square for my liking. thats the point im trying to make but i do see where you are comming from and its a different angle to mine.

Agree.

I have a PB15 and a MBP15. While they look alike during a quick glance, there have been numerous design changes. Apple is continually improving the design while the basic look remains the same and timeless. :)

yes there have been some minor changes, such as changes in port locations, grill differences, thicknesses etcetc but there has been no other changes, which is why i think the design is becomming redundant and used.

The design is nor old - It's called a classic!

id call the apple mac ]['s design a classic, not the MBP.

Some other external differences are:
  • Battery location.
  • Memory door.
  • Length and width ratio. (MBP is longer and less wide.)
  • iSight Camera.
  • Speaker grills.
  • Track pad.
  • Power adapter connector.
  • Hinge.
  • No screws by the keyboard.
  • Double screen latch.
  • IR sensor.

Additionally, internally, there are many differences.

Anyhow while I understand your point, I disagree. The new MBP looks much different than a 5 year old PB.

why do u think i said etcetc :p those differences have been over time and could not be counted as a complete "new design". it still has the fundamental pieces such as the silver colour, still as the same style of keyboard, still has the same trackpad look. thus why i come to the conclusion that they still look fairly similar to the original designs.

p.s. bed time for me ill be back on 2morrow, night every1
