The alarm app in iOS has always bugged me specifically the editing of the alarms. I always want to just touch the alarm to change the time. Still to this day it isn't intuitive for me to hit edit first.

Also I dislike seeing the big delete icon next to each alarm after I hit edit. I still always have a reaction to this day of "no I don't want to delete my alarms, I just want to change the time" after I hit edit. lol.

Is Apple doing any Usability testings?
Apple has so many tab designs. They found something that really works great. And then someone said "hey, let's start over"

What is wrong with me? I haven't once been confused by which tab is active, and I haven't once closed the wrong tab. Am I too young? Too smart? Blessed with intuition? Plain lucky? Able to cope with change? Help ... I even like the new Safari.
I keep bumping up against the same questions... and I'm old. 🤔

Can I see room for improvement? Of course... but nothing so earth shattering that using Safari feels like I can't figure out what I'm doing anymore.

The only problem for me is that the tab you are in in not in the middle when you have 20 of them open, after that I like to have a bit more place on the page.

im a bit more confused whit the mobile one where is great to have it at the bottom to not always move up the hand but you can’t directly close it whit out open the keyboard and that sucks! I like the way to move by swiping left to right to navigate to next tab. In the opposite I don’t like how now the Mac tabs are showing in to open them on my iPhone.

When you got John Gruber (who defends Apple 24/7) agreeing with you, you’ve messed up:
No kidding. He is at the top of the sycophant hall of fame along with that other partner in Cupertino-butt-kissing-hall-of-famedom Rene. When Gruber's willing to offer critique of Apple it's akin to a double murder charge.

If it's too difficult to tell, try dark mode 🤷‍♂️

Exactly. It works perfectly fine in dark mode, which is why I never saw a problem. Are there really people who still use the old fashioned and obsolete light mode?! I guess Apple only test stuff with dark mode now days.

the new tab design language is the same design language used for everything on the previous Safari 14 Start Page.

Favorites on Safari 14 Start Page? Button design.

Reading list? Button design.

From iPhone? Button design.

All these "links" to websites from the previous Safari version use button design language. A tab is really nothing more than a link to a website that you are currently prioritizing in some active/passive active state.

And now to be consistent, tabs use the same design language. This is typical of Apple to do this type of consistency grouping in UI design elements. I would even say some people who paid really close attention could have predicted this new tab design language.

The highlighting of the active tab is nothing that one can't get used to. IT's just an on/off communication. You will memorize what means "on" quickly enough.

Y’all a bunch of crazy cry babies. Much prefer the changes. And love the extra space it provides
Totally agree. It took me all of 5 seconds to get used to it. This is literally a non-issue that people are complaining about just to complain about. The tabs are fine.

BUT, other things in Safari 15 are just buggy as hell.

Umm what? You’ve always been able to tap the alarm to edit time without going into edit. You can also swipe left on an alarm to delete. Tbh I don’t know why the edit button is even there.

I guess I found the iPad version of Safari in landscape bookmark system so bad that it overshadowed this issue.

I guess I'm one of the few people who like Safari 15. There's more screen space and I like the features and the way they work. 🤷‍♂️

Agreed about tabs. Plus I do not like the transparent menu bar.

what!??!!? tell me this hasn't been there for ages otherwise I feel like a *#$*#*. I swear it wasn't there before. ios15? even apple's support article from July 2021 doesn't mention this.

I knew you could swipe to delete. that's been there for awhile.

anyway made my week lol. that was one of big pet peeves with using my iPhone. I just hope it is new in iOS 15 and wasn't there for the past year or 3 years or 5 years. Because I've been reluctantly hitting edit still until now.

edit: ok it is new in ios15 so I feel better. But thanks for pointing it out. Who knows how long I would have gone on still hitting edit. It is amazing to me that it took what I think might be 14 years to right this wrong.

Just yet one more example of the poor designers Apple employs lately. It’s such a small thing but it speaks to a larger problem. Their user interface has sucked on many design angles for years. Just take a look at Apple Music. Nothing is as intuitive as it used to be…
I really really want to like Apple Music but it's so incredibly horrible to look at and navigate.

Apart from the usability concerns, I think that the questions are:
- What is the added value of this design? Which problem they wanted to solve?
If something works fine I don't see the point of trying to re-engineer it :/

I'm staying in Safari 14 until they sort this out, otherwise I'm already looking for an alternative.

Nothing in Big Sur even compares to the disaster of Safari 15. It was a mess from the very beginning. Just go back to the old style. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Agreed about tabs. Plus I do not like the transparent menu bar.

The problem with these ill conceived, half-baked transparency effects is that it opens the door to blaming end users for opening the "wrong' webpage in Safari or having the "wrong" desktop background as seen below. Even though these are Apple's own selectable desktop pictures in MacOS.

Menu bar is a contender, never fixed and even more broken with later updates

While I don’t hate the Safari changes on iPadOS and macOS…I don’t like them as much as the changes on iOS. I have small hands, so the iOS changes are an absolute win in my opinion. No complaints on that one.

Going back to iPadOS and macOS…the compact tab bar took some getting used to, and though not necessarily the best…I think it’s better than the separate option in it’s current form.
